Here is that screen of what someone hopes the character screen will eventually look like. Think it's likely?

Kalyx triaD 01-21-2012 01:39 PM

Don't see a pic.

Drakul 01-21-2012 05:00 PM

That's the second time I've gotten the image from Twitter and the second time no one could see it. Anyway, I've uploaded it myself. You should see it now.

Kalyx triaD 01-21-2012 05:17 PM

I see now. And hell no.

Kalyx triaD 01-21-2012 05:18 PM

What's up with people wanting huge rosters these days?

Drakul 01-21-2012 05:38 PM

I guess the idea is the more characters, the more variation? In reality, everyone will pick Ryu until someone finds out who is the best character in the game.

Emperor Smeat 01-21-2012 09:18 PM

Besides both series having pretty huge number of fighters, its been a side effect for fighting games ever since Marvel vs Capcom 2 came out.

Sure the game itself was pretty unbalanced and the majority of characters were barely used but it managed to please a ton of people on both the Marvel and Capcom sides of the game. One big complaint with Marvel vs Capcom 3 was the smaller roster even though it was done to be a lot more balanced.

Kalyx triaD 01-21-2012 09:41 PM

Trust me it pleased very few people.

Captain of Fun 01-22-2012 01:21 AM

I was greatly pleased by the roster.

I'll be announce about one more stage in February. ;D

Captain of Fun 01-22-2012 02:21 AM

Is this guy a japanese ric flair or something?

Also, next couple of months are going to be immense, for fighting games. SC5 in a week and a half. UFC two weeks after that. And finally SFxT two weeks after that.

Jesus.

Fryza 01-22-2012 02:25 AM

Finally watched all the trailers. I'm sold.

Fact Bison, Juri, and Vega are in this was enough. Adding King made it better. Now if only Q...

Drakul 01-22-2012 11:54 AM

I can't see Q getting in. I'm personally hoping for Mika and Sodom but hope is sort of fading. We saw Sodom in the back of a stage once but when they played it on a live stream, he never appeared at all. So maybe he's been removed from the background to be playable? Mika is Kumas crossover outfit and everyone that has their outfit used by the opposing team has been revealed as character. I'm also sure someone had Sodoms outfit on as well.
I'm happy that Zangief is in and I want to give Poison I shot. If I can get those last two characters in the game, I'd be very satisfied.

Ono talks about a new statge being revealed in February. I'm betting the stage will be inside Pandoras box. It'll look like the outside of the box in it's designs (the eye, the shapes etc) but with the colour scheme the characters take on when Pandora mode is activated.

If that's not a stage, I already said it before, Pandora will be the end boss. The box will either contain the final boss, Genie of the Lamp style, or transform into the final boss. Probably a female because Pandora is a womans name.

Drakul 01-23-2012 10:25 AM

The Special Edition is up on the GAME website in the UK. It was up a few weeks ago briefly but was taken down again. I preordered it back then but, now that it's up and what I saw before wasn't an error, I'm not so keen on it.

The SE costs £20 more, comes with a mini guide, 45 gems and an arcade cabinate money box. No comic book like the US or Japan gets and no OST like the US or Japan gets, I can't remember who gets what. On top of that, I have to wait an extra month to get the SE over the standard edition.

Probably wont go through with it. I can't see the gems making that big a difference for me.
If I did get the gems, each of the packs includes a 30% strength increase gem. If I select 3 30% strength boost gems and active all 3, I'll have near double strength. Throw Pandora into the mix and it would give me over 100% increase with the 3 gems and Pandora combined. Considering who I play as, that would make the game a piece of cake, surely.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-23-2012 10:34 AM

Right, but if you play against someone who's plays with who you do and does that, surely you'd need them to compete?

#BROKEN Hasney 01-23-2012 10:39 AM

Assuming that combo did make it a piece of cake, of course.

Drakul 01-23-2012 10:44 AM

I play as Zangief, who is already really strong. Activate 3 30% strength gems and activate Pandora and I'd probably just need to do one spinning clothesline or piledriver and the match would be over.

DLC Gems are balanced.

Eventhubs linked to an interview with Ono at Game Revolution.

Excerpt of the interview from GR that Eventhubs posted.

Quote:

So does that mean there are specific character rivals between the franchises?

YO: Yeah, as you play through the Arcade Mode, you’ll run into something called the Rival Battle, and if you play as the official tag partners that we’ve set up, for example Ryu and Ken, eventually you’ll run into a rival battle with Kazuya and Nina who are there to stop you. And Nina will be like, “Oh, do we really have to fight these poor-looking guys who don’t wear shoes?” And Kazuya’s like, “Yeah, we’ve got to beat them up.” So there are scenes like that that flesh out the relationships between rivals.

And there’s a lot of variety—that’s kind of a serious one, with Ryu and Kazuya and Nina and Ken going at it—but there are also really light-hearted Rival Battles as well, so we’d like fans to play through the story and just have fun finding out about all those relationships between the characters.

How much communication do the developers of this game have with Namco?

YO: As I mentioned before, in the beginning when we were trying to figure out how to transplant the characters into the game, we did contact Namco on a frequent basis to get advice. But once they told us that we had the freedom to do with the characters what we wanted, we decided we could just meet up whenever we would have dinner together or something, but other than that we’d just make the game and just show them later. So every time I’d go over to their offices and meet up with the Tekken team, I’d bring a new build of the game with me, we’d play around, and then go eat dinner. So it was more like showing them progress on the game rather than getting their feedback consistently.

For this past year in particular, there were probably times when the Tekken team found out about characters through websites and things like that, not even us telling them directly. And then they would call us after reading the news on websites and say, “Hey, I want to play as that character! Can you bring a new version of the rom over?”

Captain of Fun 01-24-2012 01:24 AM

It's amazing really. I remember when the reveal trailer dropped, and thinking that the year plus wait would be agony. Now, with less than 2 months to go, the wait seems just as long.

I might be more psyched for this game, than any other game in my whole life.

At this point only a new Fire Pro, or King of Colosseum could top it.

Captain of Fun 01-24-2012 01:29 AM

Is there any site that has all the videos released so far, in one easy to find place?

Drakul 01-24-2012 02:03 AM

Edit: Ok, it's not all but it's most.

I can officially announce that you can set your button configuration from the character select screen in SFxT!

There's also a nice feature you can turn on that only allows the pause function to occur once the start button is held down.

This will stop a lot of accidental pausing during tournament games for those who don't have the option of locking their controller.

Just to clarify, with this feature enabled, tapping start will not pause the game. Only when you hold it down will it interrupt the game.
This is turning into the last Capcom fighter I ever need.

Couple of hidden jabs at MvC3 in the commentary.

Emperor Smeat 01-24-2012 04:42 PM

Looks like Microsoft once again nixed any ideas of having a console exclusive character like the PS3 is getting with this game (and Mortal Kombat).

The Xbox 360 version would have gotten 2 exclusive characters with one being Alan Wake.

Quote:

Now, a lot of 360 owners have, quite rightly, wondered if they would be getting their own exclusive characters. Well, the short answer is no. That also happens to be the long answer. However, it was originally planned that they would get two. Notably two of the only three worthwhile characters, along with Alan Wake, that Microsoft own (yeah, I said it. You Fable fans want a piece of me?)

Apparently Capcom did approach Microsoft about acquiring the rights to use these characters, but unfortunately for both parties, Microsoft evidently waited too long to respond, and the whole deal fell through. Worse, the timing evidently stops them from even putting the characters through as downloadable content, so there's no hope for a future roster update.

Drakul 01-24-2012 05:12 PM

Why would it be too late to add them as DLC? I thought the whole point of DLC, aside from milking a few extra £'s or $'s from us, was that games could have things added to them after release. What's timing got to do with it? If they have no plans for another disc based version of the game, there wouldn't be a deadline for adding to the game.

If they had used a Fable character, I'd have wanted Reaver in purely so I could listen to Stephen Fry taunting Ryu.

Kalyx triaD 01-24-2012 06:13 PM

Alan Wake? Thank god then.

If I remember correctly, Capcom won't be using the SF IV or MvC 3 model for this one in regards to DLC or extra versions. It has to do with Namco having their turn at making the game and maybe keeping the rosters as similar as possible.

I guess whatever Capcom is planning for DLC won't be exclusive and could be tied to what Namco has in store for their version.

Kalyx triaD 01-24-2012 08:27 PM

I don't think they're working together at all. Some characters Namco didn't know were in the game until they saw the trailers like the rest of us. More likely there were license deadlines that Capcom didn't wanna put up with, especially after the UMvC3 thing. The rosters between SFxT and TxSF may be very different aside from mainstays (shotos, Mishimas, Chun-Li, Nina).

I had no idea Japanese Tekken characters had English voices. I thought tekken usually just had each character speak their native language.

Captain of Fun 01-25-2012 12:16 PM

Yeah they've stressed quite a bit, that the companies share little to no input with each other on their respective games.

While Capcom is yet to finalise the details of what the mode will actually do, it is designed to alleviate fan concern over the controversial gem system - and how it will impact tournaments.

"We know a lot of players are worried that with the gem system tournaments will be harder to run," Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono told Eurogamer.

"We know they take a lot of time. A lot of players were saying, 'I have to do button checks. Do I have to do a gem check now before a match?' With regards to that we plan to release a free post-launch tournament support mode."

Meanwhile, the enthusiastic Japanese developer was keen to stress that the gem system - 57 gems will be included on the disc with others supplied as pre-order bonuses - has been misunderstood by much of the fighting game community.

"In terms of DLC gems, we don't have any set plans on selling gems like this or like that," Ono said. "We're waiting to see what the user reaction is first, because we think a lot of users still don't understand the gem system completely.

"They're not power-up items. That's not how we see them. We put gems into the game which are default. As long as you have these default ones you'll be fine. If you want to get more gems down the road from the pre-order bonuses, you can definitely do that, but it doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't make you a better player, it doesn't mean you'll have an advantage.

Capcom promised to patch the game post-launch should the community feel a gem is too strong or the balance is suffering.

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2012 12:20 PM

That's Capcom's doing most likely.

Captain of Fun 01-25-2012 12:34 PM

Yeah, I'm not sure what's so hard to grasp about the gem system. It's always struck me as something done for the sake of strategy and depth, as apposed to just having power ups for the hell of it, as the naysayers seem view them.

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2012 12:37 PM

I like the Gem system. People with a problem have no balls.
