Slammys

Bad News Gertner 03-01-2021 06:39 PM

Ah, it's from the HTM performance at the 1987 Slammy's. I've gotta go back and watch those first two Slammy's. I've never seen them entirely.

On the subject of weird Bret Hart moments from the 80s, remember when they did a Dating Game parody and Bret basically told a lady he was gonna put her in a sleeper and then rape her?

Lol the fact that he sounds a little like Buffalo Bill when he says “ravage your body” doesn’t help.

Between this and the Cornette/Tekken bit, I think I can get down with wrestling fighting game memes as an entire genre.

Found this on another site but for those that are interested in watching some rare wrestling-related stuff, a Youtube channel called Pro Wrestling Rarities has a bunch of videos and is updated on a regular basis.

Has stuff from both wrestling shows and non-wrestling shows involving wrestlers.

Well, I should rephrase, it seems like a case where he'll never be cleared again unless he has his doctors go to bat for him. Generally these guys need to jump through a lot of hoops to get WWE to consider clearing them again, and it doesn't always work.

Jason Jordan and Tyson Kidd have both been denied the chance to return multiple times. Although in the case of the latter I'm relieved because his original injuries were so bad that a simple fender bender could've left him in a wheelchair. I'd have a hard time watching him wrestle again and not cringing at every bump.

As you asked so politely about my Roman-Samoa Joe angle...

It would have started at Survivor Series with Roman facing Drew in the Champ vs. Champ match with Joe as part of the commentary team. As a "Raw guy" Joe would obviously be pulling for Drew (because it's "The one night of the year where Brand Loyalty is even mentioned").

Roman takes exception to this and turns up on Raw to confront Joe. The angle is that Joe is virtually the only Samoan wrestler to make it big and not be part of the Anoa'i family. The tension builds between the two until eventually Joe turns up on SmackDown during a Roman match. Joe hops in the ring but attacks the guy Roman is facing (let's say Owens given the timeline). Roman welcomes Joe into the Tribe.

Joe becomes the "Protector to the Tribal Chief", where essentially he is the barrier between Roman and his challengers. You have to beat Joe to take a shot at Roman. You can play this out a few ways; I'd have Roman not defend the belt for a while as nobody can get past Joe. You can have Roman occasionally "Show Up & Win" after Joe has already taken them out.

You can end this in 2 way; essentially the Batista push with Joe realising he has beaten pretty much everybody and maybe he should be the No. 1 Contender/Champion/Tribal Chief, or, ideally, The Rock shows up, you have Rock and Joe face off until Joe recognises Rock as the True Tribal Chief, he steps aside and lets Rock go at Roman. You then do a Joe-Roman programme for post-Mania.

The Rock-Roman programme doesn't need much added to it as it writes itself, but I'd have Roman drop in the "it doesn't matter" line. "I bust my gut for each and every one of you, but it doesn't matter", "I came back from a life threatening illness for you, but it doesn't matter", "I run this show, but it doesn't matter. It's still his show."

Wonder if it was an intentional decision to keep the music going or a "happy accident" that lent itself to the angle to a degree (was rarely after a match anyone would get attacked when their music was going in those days), these days it would immediately be cut.

Duggans gimmicked 2x4 fails to break, then he breaks it outside the ring and half it goes flying into the crowd for a souvenir.

Assuming its true, surprised WWE will actually be backing down from the Wednesday Night Wars.

Its going to help NXT a lot but also a hit on the egos of Vince and Triple H who probably didn't think they'd be in a lesser position against AEW for this long. Only other real time Vince/WWE ran away with their tails between their legs was over the backlash from the Black Saturday incident in he mid-80s.

To be fair a bit, not like they had that much of a choice since NHL and the rest of NBCSN sports properties are moving soon to USA Network and NXT was at risk of getting preempted a lot if they remained on Wednesdays in prime time.

Infamous sexual abuser/harasser Joey Ryan tried to sneak his way back into wrestling and almost managed to be successful with his con.

He was working with a shady promoter on a wrestling event that would be associated with a women's charity which also has been discovered to be shady.

Managed to fool a lot of people by only putting his first name on the talent list and the promoter keeping all of the talent booked for the show in the dark over his involvement. Since several people from AEW were booked for the show, everyone assumed it was Joey Janela as the mysterious "Joey" person.

Once it got revealed its Joey Ryan instead, a flood of online backlash and anger towards the promoter happened and people booked for the show started pulling out.

Surprised he hasn't tried to get booked in Japan again. I mean, they CLEARLY don't give a fuck about such things.

Worst case scenario for Ryan would be if one of the suits is to be tried under California law. Because, if it's the latter, there is going to be a countersuit because CA has some serious "Anti-Slapp" laws on the book. Stephen P. Neu (sp? Cornette's lawyer) is looking to find that out.

Emperor Smeat 03-02-2021 09:27 PM

If it wasn't for the lawsuit being moved to a new jurisdiction, the lawsuit he filed against a former ROH wrestler would have been the biggest contender of that situation happening.

The person he's suing had to open a fundraiser to help with his legal costs and he has been outspoken about the bullying legal antics Ryan has been doing towards his accusers.

Right now the courts seem more likely to just dismiss or move Ryan's lawsuits to proper jurisdictions instead of allowing them to be heard in California. One got dismissed but can be reopened, another ended in default judgement but also can be reopened, and a third one got dismissed from California but moved to Pennsylvania.

For those with a WWE Network account, WWE won't be changing their policy for uploads of new episodes of RAW, SD, and NXT on NBC's Peacock service.

None of those 3 shows will air live weekly on the service and will stay at 30 days delay for new episodes of RAW & SD and the day after for new episodes of NXT.

Does anyone know for sure if ALL CONTENT that is currently on the WWE Network will be accessible on Peacock or is it only going to be selected material? This is one question that I really would like to know the answer to.

All that's literally going to happen is you're going to have to click on Peacock, then find the WWE logo to click on to open the WWE Network exactly as it exists right now. I would be shocked if it's more complicated than that.

drave 03-03-2021 07:50 AM

Right now, it is under their "sports" category and the offerings are limited. Presumably that will change.

Here is a screenshot of a search for "WWE" I did as I wrote this post. I tried embedding, and it shows up when I preview the post but disappears when I post it, so just use the link there.

Joey did this knowing it would get trashed and cancelled so he could try and use it as evidence against the dozen of women he assaulted and is now suing as proof he cannot make money because of it.

This is the "dick flip" guy right? Did he actually get caught doing some bad shit? Not surprising if he did.... probably started "living the gimmick".

Evil Vito 03-03-2021 08:59 AM

Based on the timeline of some of the allegations I think it goes back earlier than that. He'd always done a lot of intergender wrestling and somewhere along the line worked out that he could do a gimmick that would get lots of women to touch his dick.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was both based on the reactions and stories from some of his long time friends who were caught off guard over the scandal.

The gimmick probably was just some dirty comedic bit he came up with at first as part of his gimmick change into a sleazy character on the indies but wasn't meant to be sinister in nature like it eventually became.

Him getting the Pornhub sponsorship is probably where the turn happened and he started to get more brazen with the gag. I remember watching a match he had against Tessa Blanchard I think where he flat out stopped the match just to tell her to grab his dick in front of everyone but said in a comedic way in order to lessen the suspicion.

TakeOver on a Thursday is going to be weird.

I'd assume if WWE is actually doing a virtual Hall of Fame event this year, its probably going to be on a Tuesday based on it being the only free day left in Mania week.
