I was thoroughly disappointed in the Blood and Guts match. I'm genuinely over Mox's blood lust and usage of dumb props. It makes the whole concept come across as second rate. Not to mention the bed of nails was probably one of the dumbest ideas in recent times.
As someone who admires Kota Ibushi a lot, I was also underwhelmed by how off he was. I understand that he hasn't wrestled in a while and has nagging injuries but he looked incredibly drunk in the way he carried himself in the ring. It was just sad. |
Honest take or “faux Noid-style take”?

Can someone explain why the whole MJF-Cole storyline is remotely interesting? Haven't they run the well dry with this nonsense already? Jesus Christ, some of the fans are so gullible.

According to Fightful Select, AEW has hired Orange Cassidy to be an agent/coach.

anyways, just posting this because I know a few people here will have temper tantrums about it:

AEW needs just over 10,000 tickets sold to break the record for highest paid attendance in pro wrestling history. Didn't Wrestlemania 39 just sell like 135,000 tickets?
Quote:
I wouldn't say that pointing out a spinjob is the same thing as throwing a tantrum, but I know a few people hate anything but fresh roses for AEW, be so be it. |
I hope they step up their graphics and set design output. They're both incredibly busy.
|
Quote:
It’s like Dave Meltzer’s old talking point of AEW doing better on PPV than anyone since WCW. It was only true if you compared AEW’s international buys across all media platforms against ECW’s US terrestrial PPV buys. Call this a tantrum all you want. |
Quote:
Please clarify. |
Quote:
1. The highest paid attendance implies money, not number of tickets. 2. Wrestlemania 32 made $17.6 million 3. Nowhere do they make the claim that the same event has to be a single day. 4. Wrestlemania 39 sold an average of 67,500 on consecutive days. 5. Wrestlemania 39 made an average of $10.8 million on consecutive days. Skewing and framing numbers to focus on a limited interpretation in order to self celebrate is always going to come off lame to me, not "incredible". |
Quote:
"This is the highest non WWE wrestling PPV since WCW!" NO SHIT. |
Quote:
|
Yeah, that's a wrong take. Highest paid attendance clearly refers to the most tickets paid for for a single event. Highest grossing would be the most money, right?
|
Yep.
|
Quote:
2. They haven’t claimed highest gross 3. Surely it’s implicit? Why woud you compare a multi-day event to a single event? AEW could just run a week long festival with shows on each night and add all the attendances together. This shouldn’t need clearing up. 4. Well this seems completely irrelevant as it’s not even the Mania that sold the most tickets for a single show. But this goes back to your misunderstanding. See point 1. 5. Again, irrelevant to the claim. Gonna give the benefit of the doubt that you’ve just misunderstood what the terms mean rather than another example of you tripping over yourself to be negative about AEW. |
Enjoy that Cumdorx was so easily triggered when I basically said, "I'm doing this to trigger Cumdorx."
|
I love how you can just share a stupid "fact", and then just say "well I told you that you are just triggered." What exactly do you think the point of a discussion board is anyways? Post something on a discussion board, but then you don't want anybody to discuss it? My fault, clearly misunderstood the purpose of this place
|
Hmm you seem pretty triggered cummy.

It’s this whole changing of history. As I said earlier, unless your claim is that the business is healthier — or that AEW could possibly challenge WWE head-to-head — then this “achievement” is basically trivia. I put achievement in quotation marks because everyone knows they struck a starved market with a stunt show. It’s sold largely because it’s wrestling in Wembley Stadium. Does anyone doubt that WWF or WCW could have hit something there that did better? Of course not. But wrestling is so hollow right now that doing this to basically put spin on how effective your company isn’t becomes a prerogative and everyone loses their minds exaggerating its significance. |
There’s something to be said for wanting to turn people away at the door, so you can hit markets again and again, reliably. Being an actual ongoing hot ticket. There have been cases, historically, where running a stadium to prove you can has been called out as a weird business decision (Rumble ‘97 comes to mind). And what do you think those Collision in Korea shows were?
Also, lol at “New Japan shows in North Korea.” |
Old Dirty went to the AEW Show and smelled like a piece of shit.

Making it a Grand Slam threepeat this year. Personally I'm excited for it. Have had a blast each of the last two years. Don't see any reason to expect otherwise.
Attendance-wise I absolutely am expecting it'll be another drop from last year. The drop from 2021 to 2022 was hardly surprising. 2021 benefited from a lot of things. First time in the building and in NYC. Viewed as one of, if not their biggest event ever at the time it was announced. Also right "after" COVID/getting back on the road so for lots of people it was their first big public gathering in a year and a half or longer, so there was lots of energy. Plus by the time the show actually arrived it was in what was generally considered to be AEW's high point so even their late-added sections went quickly. None of these things were the case in 2022, plus the product was generally considered one of their bleakest periods. Then add in a price increase and yeah. Grossed more than 2021 but clearly a drop in numbers. This year the prices are up again and while I think there's a lot more optimism around AEW from their fans than this time a year ago and I'm sure they'll try to pack both Dynamite and Rampage with PPV-level matches, I do think the show will suffer from another round of price increases + being right after a double PPV + lots of people feeling burnt out last year from how long of a night it was (didn't end til 12:30 AM, lots of people had to leave to catch trains) They ARE selling $25 seats along the entire upper deck and in Arthur Ashe these are hardly nosebleeds, it's not a huge venue and it's a really nice view everywhere. $25 is the kind of price where you could go, have a good time, leave before the longass show is done and not feel ripped off. But my best guess is they'll still see another attendance dip (while again beating 2022's grossing number) |

If so, I wonder if that’s just her nature being a pimp in Japan or whether it’s a sense of entitlement Omega gave her?
|
Tiny Khan announced signing new deals with Omega, Page, and the Bucks. If he gave Rush $2 million a year, how much do you think the Elite got?
|
Oh and he also resigned EVP contracts with Kenny and the Bucks, so they still have that over Phil
|
These rumored All In matches are something else. Bucks vs FTR is good if it happens....but then we have RVD jobbing to Jungle Boy and Jeff Jarrett vs some dude from ICW named Grado.
I had no idea who Grado is, but apparently he's from Insane Championship Wrestling. Dude looks like the bastard love child of Eddie Kingston and Chad Gable with the muscle definition of an adolescent Adam Cole. |
I love it. Grado! Love RVD too.

I read someone say Tony Khan must have mandated everyone to speak out on this specifically, and the visual of him frantically calling everyone made me laugh.

Their reasoning was that no one spoke out when Thunder Rosa and Taya were getting shit and this time it was because Britt is Tony's favorite or something like that.

You’d think re-signing The Elite would imply that the hatchet will be buried and they’ve agreed to cooperate and do the best things for business moving forward. You’d think.

I have decided I want OC to hold his title for 1 day longer than Romans reign ends up being... Book it Tony!!!
I am excited for the UK show, should be quite the environment with that size crowd. FTR vs. the Bucks will be worth the price alone I imagine. I suspect Jericho may be headed for a face run on the back of the JAS stuff and I dont mind it at all. Maybe his last run? Or at least first retirement. Face Jericho losing to MJF in a title vs. Career match could be a hot start to 2024. |
There are folks thinking Orange is gonna be the one to defeat MJF. I made that joke before...
|
Quote:
Or a surprise change when MJF takes someone lightly like a Penta on Dynamite. |
Edge to AEW rumoured to be a thing. I'm not really an Edge guy but he would certainly lend some name value to AEW events.
MJF vs. Edge could be entertaining and put MJF over some more. |
They should hire him and job him out to Christian to finally cement the fact that Christian is the better one.
|
Christian to WWE > Edge to AEW
If he calls himself Adam Cage and then we get Adam Cage & Christian Cage vs. Adam Page & Ethan Page, that’s a win though. Adam vs. CM Punk could be quality. A fight over Dax’s soul and who satisfied Lita & Beth Phoenix more. |
LOL why would he retire just to take a job at another wrestling company?
|
I’d think it unlikely too, but Tony Khan has deep pockets and is sorta desperate. If Edge doesn’t care where he works, he could take the money and fuck about. He’d be more novel in a different environment and it’s not like his WWE presence is hot rn.
Not an impossible signing for AEW. |
True, Edge could probably get Tiny to give him $3 million a year easy. Mark Henry is making $1.5 million to literally say "and now it is time for the main event" on Rampage once a week lol. $1.5 million for Mark Henry to say one sentence to a viewing audience of 350,000 people, so Tiny is clearly good with his Father's money. :shifty:

It's much more difficult to think of a worse run in his career.

You could make an argument that the WWE run was worse. Maybe later stages WCW are tied?

Uses for Edge:
* Match against Christian — maybe winning the TNT Title his first night in? * Match with Christian against…fuck it, anyone, who cares? * Cash Wheeler replacement since Edge and FTR are friends. Cute way to get into Punk vs. Edge. |

His AEW run is getting nostalgia pops to try and get Darby more over by proxy. That's it, that's the whole thing. |
Has he even had a singles match in AEW?

His TNA run was worse
|
The AEW run is pretty inoffensive. Like most over the hill workers in the japan he hangs out on the apron and gets some young guy he's paired with over. Its easy work. TNA he was actively damaging his image and having memorably bad matches.
|
I hardly ever watched TNA so I don't know enough about that run to comment. I've seen bits of it here and there, but not enough to judge. That said, unless it was just some kind of one off or something, it seems he's reverting to his TNA Joker Sting persona in AEW now.
|
This one thing is better than anything Sting has done in AEW

Edge should come to AEW and start a faction with Adam Cole and Hangman and call it The Adams Family.
