At this rate, they may have to.

A couple of Battlefield related news as the series celebrates its 10 year anniversary today and Battlefield 4 will stay in the modern setting.

During the ongoing 2012 Game Developer Conference, the general manager of DICE, Karl Magnus Troedsson, revealed the Battlefield series turned 10 years old today with about 50 million games sold in the entire series. Battlefield 3 alone accounts for 12 million of the series total sales.

Troedsson also revealed Battlefield 4 will be taking place during the modern day just like Battlefield 3. So far the only other details known about the game is a release date of late 2013 is currently being planned for the game.

Quote:

“There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans’ feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It’s not just one single thing,” he said at GDC Europe. “And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can’t comment any more on that games because it’s all secret.”

“We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful.”
Previously, DICE had teased a bit at the potential for the next Battlefield game to take place in the near future after becoming worried about first person shooters becoming a bit stale in the modern setting while the market soon could be showing signs of loosing interest in favor of wanting something new.

I got a bad feeling about that gun link idea.

Why in fuck's sake are any of the guns in that game available for purchase by civilians?

And it's a really bad fucking time to even reveal that sort of thing. Like they've been living under a rock. Bad idea on so many levels.

During the Sony press conference at Gamescom today, the company revealed a brand new game which will rely heavily on the PS Move.

The game is called "Until Dawn" and is essentially similar to teen horror and slasher style films in terms of gameplay and story.

7 playable characters with the goal of the player to keep them all alive for a whole night even though they are being chased in the woods by an unknown killer.

Supermassive Games was revealed as the developer for the game who previously worked on Tumble and Start the Party for the PS Move.

Other than that, I don't need it. Already got myself a 3DS.

Yeah, it does look pretty good. They say the combat controls are kinda pokey, according to an IGN review. That can be dealt with, as the rest of the game was fairly solid.

The game map seemed kinda small, when you compare it to other games like it. It might not have been meant to adhere to the 'open world', sandbox genre though. I'll have to wait, though. I'm already committed to Forza Horizon, WWE13 and eventually GTA 5.

At Gamescom, EA re-announces a new Command & Conquer game is being development and is being done by Bioware who teased they were working on a game for the series months ago.

Titled as "Command & Conquer", the game follows the same RTS style as past games in the series while also using the free-to-play model.

In terms of content, the first content piece available at launch will be based on the Generals 2 game with more "universes" to be added in the future such as the Red Alert and Tiberium settings.

The game itself runs on the Frostbite 2.0 engine while Bioware Victory studio is working on the project. A closed beta will be available in the future with official signups to occur at the game's official webpage.

3) Update to Valve potentially announcing Half-Life 3 at Gamescom appears to have been false baring a special announcement before the expo is over. It appears the debut of "Mann vs Machine" mode for Team Fortress 2 most likely was the special announcement which occurred well before EA's press conference.

Haven't played Command & Conquer in a looooooooong time. I got Generals and it can't run on my rig anymore. If Chris Taylor would pull his head out of his ass and fix the disaster that was SupCom 2, I'd be slowly getting back into the RTS swing of things.

Fignuts 08-16-2012 12:55 AM

Well the state of videogame news has been sad for quite some time now, because I see that headline every year.

I would probably still get excited at this point for HL3, but I don't know. Given the choice, I'd rather see Portal 3.

Capcom reveals the official 25th anniversary celebration for the Mega Mna series will be a new game called "Mega Man Xover" and will only be available for iOS devices.

The game is a social RPG type game which will allow players to customize their own Mega Man character while visually borrowing from the Mega Man X iOS game released earlier in the year.

The setting for the game takes place in the Xover World which is a crossover of all the worlds within the entire series.

In terms of storyline, Dr. Wily teams up with Sigma to lock away all the Mega Man heroes into a separate universe while Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack create a new playable robot hero to save them all.

The game has a Fall 2012 release date with December 17 expected to be the actual date.

According to several sites and sources, OnLive could be facing bankruptcy and shutting down soon with several sites stating their sources reveal layoffs are currently happening at the company.

An official statement by the company denies anything bad is going on right now with the company but Kotaku has stated the company recently filed a bankruptcy-like claim in the state of California.

According to GiantBomb and EGMNow who have contacts close to the situation are reporting a 10am meeting occurred recently with the entire staff present fired on the spot. Both also supposedly had witnesses who confirmed seeing employees leaving the building with moving boxes.

Quote:

According to a source close to the situation, the company called an all hands meeting at 10am PDT, at which the entire staff was fired. Some staffers may be rehired as the company transitions to its next unknown iteration.

Our source tells us that many employees blame the failure of the company squarely on the CEO — who refused to sell the company “many times.” There is speculation that the future company may simply be pure intellectual property play. OnLive reportedly has lots of patents covering cloud-distributed content, especially in 3D graphics.
While the rumors point to OnLive no longer existing as a company soon, there is also the small possibility of the company itself not completely shutting down as a whole and instead being rebranded under a new name but as a much smaller company.

The news also comes as a concern to the upcoming Ouya console who had recently announced a partnership with OnLive as a way to help bring the entire OnLive catalog and service to their console.

The only real argument is the spin on it, that people want it. Many people just feel compelled to get it.

We can now confirm that the assets of OnLive, Inc. have been acquired into a newly-formed company and is backed by substantial funding, and which will continue to operate the OnLive Game and Desktop services, as well as support all of OnLive's apps and devices, as well as game, productivity and enterprise partnerships. The new company is hiring a large percentage of OnLive, Inc.'s staff across all departments and plans to continue to hire substantially more people, including additional OnLive employees. All previously announced products and services, including those in the works, will continue and there is no expected interruption of any OnLive services.
While we're not commenting on additional details, the reports have been way overstated, perhaps because we were unable to respond to initial enquiries until the transaction completed. The management team is intact, the company has substantial funding and we have all our current businesses to run.

CEO also recently accepted full blame for creating the financial mess for the company which lead to the recent filing for a type of bankruptcy called "Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors."

Yesterday he was being blamed solely for the mess and doing nothing about it nor informing the employees of the situation until it was too late which lead to the mass firings yesterday.

His official reason was basically over expansion to the point of them having over 8000 servers being used by only 1600 paid users.

According to rumors from a potential survey, Dragon Age 3 could be featuring a co-op mode, the story taking place during a civil war, and a few other gameplay details.

The survey which hasn't been confirmed nor denied by EA and/or Bioware reveals plans for online and co-op modes along with finishing moves and the ability to control up to 4 party members out of a pool of 10 heroes at a time. The ability to use spies is also rumored as another feature for the game.

In terms of the game's story, the player takes on the role of an Inquisitor who's goal is to stop a civil war currently going on in the land of Thedas.

Quote:

“Take the Inquisitor’s cloak and lead the only force able of bringing light into the darkness. Choose the direct method and gather your armies, send spies into the shadows or engage in a political war, make friends and use your connections indirectly: it is up to you how you lead the inquisition.”
In terms of the official title for the game, at least five names were teased in the survey with the final name possibly being chosen from this group.
Quote:

* Dragon Age 3: The Breach
* Dragon Age 3: Exarch
* Dragon Age 3: Inquisition
* Dragon Age 3: Inquisitor
