Poor Mondo. I mean, he beat himself to the point he can't wrestle ever again, only for Blockbuster to shut down.

Seems GCW recently caught the negative attention of WWE since a trademark for "The Collective" was recently filed by WWE.

That's the name of the series of indies events held by GCW in recent years usually during Mania weekend but this year it was in October because of coronavirus reasons.

Also seems GCW's lawyer is going to use the same defense WWE did against Cody & AEW by using the WWE Network as evidence against WWE's claim for the trademark. Only difference is GCW also owns the trademark for it so its a lot harder on WWE's end to claim past usage via old shows on the Network.

Ended up being partially debunked by the Observer based on some talks he had with people close to the situation.

The part about USA Network being unhappy with RAW's record low ratings is true but not the part about them pushing for RAW to go in a more adult direction for content changes.

Mr. Nerfect 12-20-2020 03:54 PM

You know what USA would do if they were “furious” at Raw’s ratings? Cancel the third hour. But they don’t because it performs so well for them. Absolute bullshit and I can’t believe people fall for it.

Would they like higher ratings? Of course. They’d also like $500 million and Alexa Bliss to blow them. But “furious?” Lol.

Seems WWE's third party services ban is even worse than previously known based on a recent interview AJ Styles had with Inside the Ropes podcast show.

Not only does WWE want their big share of any money made via WWE approved third party accounts, they also have been asking their talent who used Twitch prior to Vince's ban to pay back the money to the company that they made under their WWE ring names.

I was doing this long before the lockdown, before the Coronavirus I was streaming and doing my thing, so I was always doing it on my time off… I wasn’t happy about it, no one was, but it is what it is. I’ll handle it the way that I have to. I’m a teamplayer, he [Vince] is the captain, I’ll follow his lead as far as Vince is concerned. Will it change, will something happen? They’re working it as we speak. Will I be happy with it? Probably not. The opportunity to stream in the future is wide-open. I obviously have the equipment, I just don’t have the opportunity to do that right now.”

Evil Vito 12-21-2020 08:51 AM

Sounds like AJ has Stockholm Syndrome to me.

drave 12-21-2020 10:43 AM

What other viable options does he have though? Compared to WWE money, given the current climate, he's wise to toe the line at this time.

Evil Vito 12-21-2020 11:17 AM

What are they gonna do - fire or suspend one of their biggest stars? Over what is likely a completely unenforceable contract?

I can understand a low card dude feeling the need to tow the company line and not rock the boat but this is AJ Styles. This dude has leverage and it's frustrating to see people just accept this shit instead of letting the company bend them over.

Evil Vito 12-21-2020 11:20 AM

Not to mention, if someone fought the company on this ruling and got it thrown out, it would do wonders for all the talent that were making more on streaming than they were on their actual contracts.

Unfortunately though, much like in other companies, the people higher on the totem pole who could actually have the leverage to make change happen don't want to do it because fuck you I got mine.

He has a family. Unknown when this covid shit is going to be over. He'd be dumb not to take the guarantee.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-21-2020 01:16 PM

It's AJ fucking Styles. He makes a killing on streaming alone. Which he would still make if he suddenly left WWE. He'd also easily find work in AEW or NJPW. Easily.

drave 12-21-2020 03:30 PM

He would still lose $$$

Mr. Nerfect 12-21-2020 04:18 PM

It’s not the most heinous thing the WWE has ever done. These people have platforms because of the WWE. There should be some sort of common ground, no doubt, but even someone like AJ Styles is making that Twitch money because he’s a big WWE Superstar taking an outside booking.

If the WWE treated its wrestlers like employees and treated things like Twitch streaming as proper third party ventures, then that would be one thing. But trying to get all that money? Especially when it is potentially a useful promotional tool for you is just a sign that the company’s policies need to catch up to the world they’re in.

He would not be any worse off than before he was in WWE. He's been making a good living before WWE. He would continue to do so afterwards. Especially if the claims about wrestlers making as much or more than their contracts is even remotely true.

Bad News Gertner 12-21-2020 05:30 PM

NFL Hall of Famer Kevin Greene passed away at age 58. Greene wrestled a couple matches in WCW

He could have been a huge star had he committed to wrestling, which I get why he didn't.

I doubt Styles is making more from Twitch than from WWE. That claim was for talent like Zelina Vega.

The chair breaking in half and Bray charging at Orton while on fire were probably the two best or coolest moments of WWE's TLC show last night.

Who is that back guy?

Emperor Smeat 12-21-2020 07:57 PM

AJ Styles' bodyguard who goes by name of Omos

RP 12-21-2020 08:00 PM

He's gonna be wrestling Bobby Lashley and Keith Lee for the next 5 years.

Of course not. But he's AJ Styles. He once again be the hottest free agent on the market. And would likely gain another big contract. Even if it's not a wwe guarantee, combined with new found income via streaming, he'd be just fine.

He's AJ fucking Styles. He's not poor and he's not gonna be outta work long if he'd leave.

Besides NXT India and "NXT EVOLVE", WWE is also currently working on plans for a new NXT Mexico brand.

Wrestling Inc. has learned that the company has also been discussing a Mexican Lucha Libre series, which would be an NXT Mexico of sorts. The show would reportedly air in the U.S. WWE has spoken with a few people about running the project, but it is very early on in the planning stages. One of the names being considered as a consultant on the project is Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo was an agent for Lucha Underground and was very involved with the promotion.

One source compared the project to the WCW Telemundo "Festival de Lucha" pilot that was taped in Waco, Texas on January 27, 1999 that never aired. The pilot was added to the "Hidden Gems" section of the WWE Network last year.

WWE has been looking to expand into international markets for awhile now. The company launched NXT UK in 2018, and has been considering creating NXT brands in several other countries as well.

NXT starting to head into the same direction and problem as regular WWE in terms of gradually becoming too bloated and saturated for weekly content.

Assuming all three new NXT shows are one hour long, just watching NXT branded stuff means at least 6 hours per week once all of them launch. WWE sans NXT right now is 6-7 hours weekly with RAW, SD, 205 Live, and Main Event.

Didn't AJ get Vince to give the Good Brothers a contract extension as a handshake for him to sign a new contract....only for covid to come as an excuse for them to get released?

Wasn't really following.... but didn't Lana just get pretty much carried along by Asuka?

RP 12-22-2020 06:48 PM

That is really shitty what they did to Lana tbh. I think she would be great in AEW as Miro's girl.

What rubs me the wrong way is how vindictive WWE is when it comes to this type of shit. Grow the fuck up!

Only for the latter part of her storyline with Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

With the way that storyline was playing out, you'd think the big payoff was either Lana somehow puts Nia through a table or takes the Women's Tag titles off of Nia & Shayna as revenge. Instead neither happen.

Assuming that storyline is over after last week's RAW since Lana is hurt, Lana's big payoff was just getting a surprise roll-up over Nia, which led to Nia & Shayna still getting the last laugh in the end by destroying her post-match.

yep she screwed up when she signed for 5 years and miro did not, she should have held out.

Mr. Nerfect 12-22-2020 08:24 PM

Pretty sure they would have fucking talked about it. Lana took the WWE prestige and Miro went to AEW because he’s got a warped perspective of himself and has flopped like every. Single. Act. Outside of maybe FTR, who are just in the same spot.

Lana is not a good wrestler. She was at best holding a spot anyway. This is also how you get someone over with the internet in 2020/2021. People are actually championing Lana. Holy wow.

Charlotte coming in and winning is better. Sorry to break it to you guys. But now they’ve actually got the chance to do something with Lana and you’ll eat it up hook, line and sinker.

BigCrippyZ 12-22-2020 09:01 PM

 "WWE prestige". It's called a paycheck bigger than what anyone who isn't a petty, chickenshit, idiot would ever pay her. Instead she's getting paid much more than she's currently worth because bosses are a group pathetic, fucking morons who will simply pay someone more than they're actually worth simply to keep a former employee and competitor from having even a possibility of getting more over or having success.
