Anyone listen to Tommy Dreamer's podcast before?

Apparently WWE is currently under investigation by Orange County officials regarding their venues being hotspots for the coronavirus in Florida.

Its part of a larger investigation targeting 17 businesses that government officials feel have been responsible for keeping the spread of the coronavirus on-going in the county.

There reportedly has been at least two COVID-19 outbreaks in WWE since moving all of their tapings to Florida, one in June and another in September. In the case of the latter, matches for Clash of the Champions had to be changed as a result, including the Women's Tag Team title match between Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax vs. The Riott Squad and Bayley vs. Nikki Cross.

I always wonder if Japanese speaking wrestling fans complain online about NJPW the way English speaking wrestling fans complain about WWE.

Emperor Smeat 10-20-2020 10:50 PM

Probably not anywhere near the same degree mainly because NJPW isn't being run into the ground by an old and increasingly out of tough guy nor having somewhat destructive plans for wrestling like his potential successor has.

NJPW's biggest criticisms in recent years pretty much revolved around how they've handled Naito over the years including his Double Champ reign and the big backlash they got from their female fanbase over the idea to include women's wrestling on their shows.

WWE recently revealed how bad their recent coronavirus outbreaks were as part of their response to Orange County officials investigating them as a potential hotspot of the coronavirus in the county.

According to the Observer's Bryan Alvarez, the 1.5% positive cases given by WWE ends up being around 150 wrestlers and staff who tested positive for the coronavirus since WWE started holding tapings at their Performance Center and Full Sail. That number is a lot higher than was originally assumed for WWE's outbreaks.

Alvarez also stated that WWE's number doesn't include family members that contracted the virus from infected wrestlers and staff which would skew the numbers even higher against the company.

Surprised there isn't some way to shut them down totally for a few weeks.

From an episode of WCW Thunder in 2000.

Two kids were fighting in the back when they arrived. Norman asked if everyone knew who he was. Of course. Booker T. An unperturbed Norman continued by explaining that backyard wrestling was dangerous and offered to teach the kids to wrestle. Norman found the 130 pound champion and got into the makeshift ring with him. Norman demonstrated a half nelson – then rolled the kid up! Ralphus counted the pin, and Norman was the champion! Unfortunately, they couldn’t celebrate for long. Those kids were chasing them.

That was the end of the angle. No payoff, no nothing. It just stopped. Maybe Norman and Ralphus went on welfare.

It could have happened.

"The Hitman" has been outspoken about his WCW run not living up to expecations. Specifically, Hart told Fightful in a recent interview that not having creative direction in storylines or promos was a detriment to him. He recalled one instance where he just talked about something that entertained him, and it happened to impress WCW brass.

"I had nothing to talk about. I’m going out and I’m ranting about WCW fans, they have no respect," I’m sitting there going, ‘What else do I got to say? I don’t have anything to say. I don’t know who I’m fighting or where I’m going, what I’m doing.’ I remember I got really frustrated, I went out and talked about my cat. I talked about my cat was my only fan, Smokey the cat. My cat was named Smokey. But, I remember it was the stupidest interview ‘cause I had nothing to talk about. It was almost sarcastic to make it clear to Bischoff in the back, ‘I don’t have anything to talk about.’ The best I can come up with is my cat. I just remember when I came back to the dressing room, Eric Bischoff goes, ‘I loved the part about the cat.’ He goes, ‘I loved it.’ I remember scratching my head and thinking, ‘For the money these guys are paying me, they’ve sure got some stupid people here.’"

It went a lot further than a promo about a cat. Hart pitched a full on storyline ang angle with the cat. No word on if it was going to be Smokey, but he went the extra mile just to see if it was something WCW would actually to.

"I actually remember giving him an idea about the cat, putting the cat carrier and having the cat in my corner all the time. He said he loved it. It never went anywhere, like everything in WCW. Yeah. I actually had an idea where the cat, I’d have a real cat all the time in my corner, and then for one of the matches I would put a stuffed toy cat in my cat carrier and I would have a zipper on it. I would stick the insides of the cat with a brick and then when I was in peril in the match I would reach in, say, a boston crab or something like that, or some kind of a hold where I’m in jeopardy. I would open my cage door, reach through, grab the cat by the tail, swing it and hit the wrestler over the head with the brick and win the match with a stuffed cat with a brick. But, I remember it was almost like a rib to see if they would just do it. Actually, to be honest, it would have been better than anything they did have me do at that time. Anyway, that never came to fruition. Sometimes you gotta just make up stuff on the go all the time," Hart told Fightful.

It didn't happen. Such is life.

Seems Marty Scurll might be gone from Ring of Honor.

ROH recently removed him from their roster page and he wasn't brought back for their recent set of tapings. Same for him not being brought back to ROH Creative since being among those accused during this past summer's tidal wave of sexual abuse and harassment allegations within the wrestling industry.

There is no official update on their status with the company at this time.

funny how much the indie scene has changed in terms of who's hot and who's not in the last four years or so. PWG's Battle of Los Angeles from 2016 was the pinnacle of popularity for that company, it featured many guys that have since gone on to greater things or returned to WWE - Tomasso Ciampa, Ricochet, Tommy End, Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish, Adam Cole, John Morrison, Trevor Lee, Brian Kendrick, Matt Riddle, Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews, Chris Hero (who was later terminated again). Cody Rhodes and the Bucks went on to form AEW (and took the Lucha Bros with them), guys like Zach Sabre Jr. and Will Ospreay still doing their thing, Jeff Cobb and Marty Scurll (Scurll WON that weekend tournament) found further success in ROH in the years to follow.

It's interesting to consider where all those dudes were in their careers at that time, the opportunities that they got and the paths they've chose, how it's lead to further success and popularity, how it may have allowed them to get lost in the shuffle of things, or how simply they couldn't maintain appeal for whatever reason/s. Also interesting to me is how instrumental many of those mentioned were in giving New Japan a way to break into the US and how that has floundered as well.

Lucha Libre AAA held their TripleMania press conference today and the two biggest stuff coming out of it was them signing a sponsorship deal with Marvel and Kenny Omega defending his AAA Mega title against Laredo Kid at the show.

In other stuff, apparently Danny Burch ended up outing himself as one of the COVID truthers in NXT's locker room and Road Dogg got into a another dumb online argument but this time with Hurricane over the view that wearing masks prevents the spread of the coronavirus. Could easily guess which side Hurricane was on.

Hurricane is the best.

Emperor Smeat 10-26-2020 09:58 PM

Rather have him and not Triple H's merry band of fools in charge of NXT considering some of the bad stuff that's come out in recent times regarding their handling of it.

At this point, strongly feel a Triple H & Steph regime over WWE once Vince leaves is going to be neither a net positive nor a net negative. Whatever areas they will improve will just get offset in other areas where Triple H & co. have been just as bad or worse than Vince & co.

Just finished the episode dedicated to Howard Finkel as Dreamer used to work in the office with Fink. Great stories, but really sad. Finkel was living in assisted living towards the end and had a brain disease where his brain was shrinking faster than normal. Dreamer said the WWE kept him on the payroll and paid for everything.

So that makes it two days in a row a wrestling show had someone killed.

First WWE's RAW with rambling rabbit and now Impact with Johnny Bravo.

All that's needed is for NXT and/or AEW to do the same tomorrow to keep this murder week streak going.
