Wonder if that Mandy trade is also related to the recent rumors of WWE releasing Billie Kay potentially soon since they supposedly no longer care about keeping her on the roster now that the IIconics split up.

No, I asked why they even bother scouting amateur wrestlers.
Amateur wrestling has nothing to do with professional wrestling so you'd be as well lining up a group of any athletes and teaching them.

Scouting amateurs of all kinds would be a smarter move.

Fignuts 09-12-2020 07:20 PM

Amateur wrestling obviously isn’t the same thing as pro wrestling but the skill sets of amateur wrestlers translate really well. Amateur wrestlers can make it look real because they know how to do it for real. Not to mention the fact that wrestling requires some of the most rigorous conditioning of any sport out there. There’s a reason why guys like Angle and Benjamin are such machines and it’s not just good genes.

I mean if you just want big bastards to lumber around the ring like a moose giving birth than sure grab your talent from anywhere. But a good roster has a mixture of styles and if you want to fill a spot with a quick technical grappler, amateur wrestlers are naturally disposed to that style.

Emperor Smeat 09-12-2020 08:58 PM

Apparently if it wasn't for Hulu and other platforms, WWE likely would have cancelled 205 Live a long while ago according to PWInsider.

WWE manages to make just enough money from the brand to justify its continue existence despite being the most ignored or forgotten brand the company has.

The women’s revolution was kind of a scam huh

Supreme Olajuwon 09-12-2020 10:27 PM

I haven’t followed WWE closely since the Rumble but it seems like there were four legitimate women’s tag teams: Sasha/Bayley, the Kabuki Warriors, the Iiconics, and Fire and Desire. And now none of them are teams. Is that right?

Emperor Smeat 09-12-2020 10:56 PM

Yeup. I'd also add in Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss since that pairing seems to be done after Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Only established women's tag team in the division right now is the Riott Squad but Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott only recently got back together as a pairing.

Not even NXT and their large pool of women talent have any real established teams on hand.

Always was.

Small handful of women had some great matches in NXT, and they jumped on marketing it as a “revolution” despite the fact that the majority of their female workers were the shits. That hasn’t really changed.

Lock Jaw 09-13-2020 12:38 AM

Loved the women's revolution.... for me it only seemed to "die off" only recently along with the rest of wrestling in general for me.

I'm going to seriously be pissed about Billie Kay being released...yes her bff's husband is in AEW and she can go there....but I don't know it doesn't make sense to me.

Who else was like "WHO THE FUCK IS TRAVIS SCOTT AND DOES HE LIKE MICK FOLEY OR WHAT?"

I remember during the big cut down day a few months back, Billie was rumored to be released and that ended up obviously not being true, but there were never rumors about Peyton. She’s been earmarked for a push for ages, and I really don’t understand why. They’re both hot, their personalities are similar, neither is particularly great in the ring. But Vince somehow has decided one is salvageable and one isn’t.

Maybe instead of being released Billie will be sent to Smackdown as the other end of the Mandy Rose trade, but they’re clearly not gonna do anything with her.

Volare 09-13-2020 11:53 AM

I want to know who the idiot was that ran after Moxley...

I wonder how long they will continue with the women’s Rumble match. They don’t have the numbers for it and I dunno how many more times they can trot out Kelly Kelly as a surprise entrant.

Bad News Gertner 09-13-2020 04:04 PM

It was pretty bad last year. Women aren't built for over the top Battle Royals. They do the same "wrestler enters, does a big move and then moves on to something else", but they botch the move half the time.

XL 09-13-2020 04:37 PM

They definitely have the numbers! Maybe not the depth or credible contenders but they have a huge roster without touching guest appearances.

RAW

1) Asuka
2) Bianca Belair
3) Billie Kay
4) Charlotte Flair
5) Lana
6) Liv Morgan
7) Natalya
8) Nia Jax
9) Peyton Royce
10) Ruby Riott
11) Shayna Baszler
12) Zelina Vega

SmackDown

13) Alexa Bliss
14) Bayley
15) Carmella
16) Dana Brooke
17) Ember Moon
18) Lacey Evans
19) Mandy Rose
20) Mickie James
21) Naomi
22) Nikki Cross
23) Sasha Banks
24) Tamina

NXT

25) Aliyah
26) Candice LeRae
27) Chelsea Green
28) Dakota Kai
29) Io Shirai
30) Jessamyn Duke
31) Kacy Catanzaro
32) Kayden Carter
33) Marina Shafir
34) Mercedes Martinez
35) Mia Yim
36) Raquel González
37) Rhea Ripley
38) Shotzi Blackheart
39) Tegan Nox
40) Vanessa Borne
41) Xia Li

+ 7 women on NXT UK

And that doesn’t count Scarlett (currently not a wrestler) or Mayrse (listed on SD brand).

Lock Jaw 09-13-2020 04:52 PM

Dunno why it suddenly popped into my head.... but I only just now got that Chris Saban's whole "Hail Saban!" thing was supposed to be like Hail Satan

Emperor Smeat 09-13-2020 04:53 PM

That list of WWE's women talent is a microcosm of their atrocious call-up system since NXT shouldn't be hogging as much talent as they've been doing in recent years at the cost of improving RAW and SD.

Add like 3-4 women from NXT to RAW and SD each and both main roster women's divisions get a nice boost in depth and quality while NXT can go back to their old ways of focusing on building up the next set of women stars.

To get over the top, you often have women bouncing themselves up via the bottom rope too. The Rumble is basically a big brawl, and the women aren't trained to be excellent brawlers. They should have a gimmick that works towards whatever strengths they have. It's not progressive to just give them the men's gimmicks and say "Have fun."

I wish they'd let Brian Kendrick out of 205 Live and venture into NXT or Smackdown...

According to Matt Cardona, WWE has been cheapskates for years in regards to paying their talent royalties from the sales of their wrestling games.

They paid their talent well in royalties for the first year a WWE game had DLC packs and then afterwards kept cutting smaller and smaller royalties checks over the years despite only WWE 2K20 suffering badly in terms of sales.

"Literally the day we were released somebody from RetroMania reached out," Cardona said. "Maybe it was the day after. Who didn’t love WrestleFest, right? An iconic piece of, I think, video game history, but definitely of my childhood. So, to be in the official sequel, I just said I could do it. Sign me up, man. Where do I sign?"

Being in video games was nothing new to Cardona, who has appeared in annual editions of WWE games for a decade-plus. He looked back fondly on his love for games growing up.

I was a huge video game guy growing up," said Cardona. "I think around n64 I kinda stopped because things became way too hard for me. But, even now, the other day I was playing Revenge on N64. Those games, No Mercy, WrestleMania 2000, but then once it starts getting into X-Box, Playstation 2, it just becomes too difficult for me and too time consuming. If you play No Mercy you can just do a Royal Rumble, you know what I’m saying? But, then you gotta do Career Mode, I’m like, “Oh, my gosh, this is too much.”

The pay to be in video games outside of WWE might not be near what it was in the company, but according to Cardona those numbers were shrinking anyway.

"Listen, this is another funny story, so the first year we were downloadable. Which, whatever. I’ll take it. Very, very excited. This was a dream come true. You want to have a t-shirt. You want to be in a video game. You want to have an action figure. That first royalty check, I’ll never forget, my dad called me and told me what it was. I was in my hotel room and I dropped to my bed, “What?” I couldn’t believe it. Then the years after that went drastically down and down and down. I don’t know exactly what happened, but still very cool the fact that we get paid to be in a video game. When you think about it like that, I get to be in a video game and I’m getting paid? Pretty cool," said Cardona.

They pulled a similar stunt when the Network launched in regards to their shenanigans with royalties checks and pocketing a bigger share of the added revenues going into the company. Those shenanigans ended up being one of the big factors in CM Punk's departure from WWE.

Giving ROH a shot now that they are back

slik 09-14-2020 07:16 PM

I like the rules for this tournament ROH is doing

3 rope breaks on submissions then no escape
No punches to the groin or head
20 count outside of the ring
Rule violations are a warning, then a DQ

slik 09-14-2020 07:16 PM

LMAO at Nugenix commercial during ROH

Is there any wrestling program they don't advertise during

slik 09-14-2020 07:37 PM

Jon Gresham vs Wheeler Yuta was good

the rules give this a different vibe than AEW/WWE/Impact

Emperor Smeat 09-14-2020 08:03 PM

WWE' is doing something similar with their NXT UK brand for their upcoming Heritage Cup tournament since unlike regular WWE & NXT style matches, those tournament matches will only be held under British Rounds rules.

I'd suggest WWE books The Forum for WM weekend -- it's adjacent to Sofi Stadium and seats around the same number of people as The Staples Center.

slik 09-15-2020 10:28 AM

Actually....

I'm not sure WM will have a crowd (at least an in-person crowd)

They did just lay-off the live events staff and WM tix usually go on-sale in November...

Evil Vito 09-15-2020 10:31 AM

There's no point in having WM in a football stadium without a crowd. Just save money and do it in a regular arena, probably in Florida or Texas where they're allowing limited crowds.

slik 09-15-2020 10:46 AM

I could also see Vince giving it to Tampa for 37 and bumping Sofi to 38

Droford 09-15-2020 11:06 AM

Vince is foiled yet again from holding WM in LA in a large stadium where the Rams play

the key to that is if the NFL gets a crowd for the SB there 2 months earlier.
