I like narrative heavy games and save anywhere is the best QoL invention ever in games.

Good. Was considering the playstation remakes instead of the OG ones on that front for the first 2 games. If I like these I'll prob get back around to them anyways though, just wanted to make sure I didn't need to at least read a synopsis to fill in things that I needed to know.

Sepholio 12-01-2022 10:37 PM

yo there is a ys vs trails fighting game i might have to try that out too haha love y's. Didnt learn about it until the psp but from then on I was on those games and any of the remakes of older ones they released.

Destor 12-01-2022 10:44 PM

Yeah Ys and Trails are the same company. Falcom.

Destor 12-01-2022 10:46 PM

I really hope you dig it. Im trying not to oversell it but i love the series.

Sepholio 12-05-2022 10:06 PM

Liking it so far but the story hasn't really taken off much yet. Part of that hold up is my incessant need to do some early grinding and this game seems like it very much discourages grinding in that the diminishing returns are super real. I have never seen exp drop off so hard.

Fignuts 12-06-2022 06:07 PM

Midnight Suns

Very good so far, as expected from firaxis. Story and character interactions are better than what I expected as well.

drave 12-07-2022 08:10 AM

Nuka World stuff dropped in FO76 yesterday

ClockShot 12-08-2022 07:22 PM

Evil West.

Not bad. Haven't gone too deep into it yet.

Fignuts 12-09-2022 12:30 AM

That looked really cool, but I heard it was short, so I'm holdi g off til its on sale.

Sepholio 12-11-2022 04:22 PM

Trails in The Sky FC pretty good so far.

drave 12-16-2022 02:03 PM

Downloaded Octopath Traveler - I've heard good things. Not started it yet.

Helmsphere 12-16-2022 08:14 PM

Midnight Suns.

ClockShot 12-17-2022 06:53 AM

Finished Evil West.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

It's games like this from a semi-established development team that make you wonder what the hell they are doing in the gaming business.

A real head scratcher this was.

ClockShot 12-19-2022 06:52 PM

Jumped back into Destiny 2 briefly. I can wait for a while since Fignuts' assessment of the new season is fairly accurate. Let a few weeks build up then I'll have something to do.

Bought the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut/Add-on during Black Friday. I think I'll reinstall, upgrade to PS5 version and see what Iki Island has to offer.

I'm regretting not playing this sooner, but also regretting playing it. It has me 100% and I can't put it down. This game has fookin everything.

Sepholio 12-20-2022 01:49 PM

LEZDUIT

Fignuts 12-20-2022 04:28 PM

Finally playing the witcher 3, now that theres a next gen update. I started it before, but didn't get too far in.

drave 12-21-2022 09:10 AM

I need to play it through again. Only completed it once. It is a very deep game that does not respect your time. In this instance, that is a great thing!

Be prepared for a challenge as well (unless you put it on easy diff). Witcher contracts are engaging fights that do require preparation, unless you just overlevel yourself.

Fignuts 12-22-2022 11:13 PM

Got myself a ps5 + Ragnarok bundle. Also got the new Horizon and both last of us games with it.

Soooo gonna be busy.

Playing chained echos. It's brilliant

Fignuts 12-23-2022 11:47 PM

Disc version.

Jesus christ Ragnarok pops off immediately.

drave 12-24-2022 09:15 AM

It's one of the best turn based JRPG's I've ever played man.

The break system is perfect, and makes you have to think about your next turn moreso than any other turn-based rpg.

It's grindy AF, and I don't even care, because its so damn fun

Destor 12-24-2022 06:33 PM

Was almost to Zeiss and I dunno what happened but my save got corrupted. Had to go back several hours because I wasn't making a full slate of alternate saves like I should. Ah well, lesson learned. Almost back there now. Just finished the questline with the mayor/orphanage again and am cleaning up a couple things before setting off to Zeiss again.

Love the battle system and the characters are endearing for the most part. Really my only gripes are that I feel like there should be a few more dungeons/locations and the game gets rather easy, especially if you over level at all. Story is kind of basic/slow so far but I can tell it's because it's setting itself up as a series in advance.

ClockShot 12-25-2022 05:40 PM

Finished the Iki Island expansion for Ghost of Tsushima.

Nice size island to explore with a solid story. But god damn was the subplot annoying as hell. The Sucker Punch team paying tribute to some of Playstation's other first party characters was a nice touch too.

the narratives are back loaded. The final 20% of a trails game is always a rollercoaster. Its just how it does it. If you get into the world and learning about the factions and society you'll find plenty to occupy yourself with but i totally wouldnt scoff at the criticism.

That said sky first chapter and second chapter were made as one game and deemed too long so its in a unique spot. Still the back leg of sky fc...its memorable to say the least.

I love Estelle and Joshua. Estelle Bright is hands down my favorite jrpg protagonist of all time. She's everything the world isnt but should be.

Trails games all get easier the more you play them to an extent that is pretty uncommon. I always recommend people not be afraid of the higher difficulties. Thats dependent on the person but if the individual has played an SMT for example then put it on nightmare. Youll be fine once youve cleared the opening and you can start customizing. Maybe not in Sky the 3rd. It can be really challenging at points.

Otherwise the series is def a bit too easy. Most of the fandom focuses more on "how hard can i fucking break this game." And that can fun. Especially in cold steele. Some fucking NUTTY builds.

I love the combat though. The arts and crafts system is great. The games only really flex on the losable fights. The series will frequently give you fights that you can lose but if you win there's great loot and/or lore. And those battles are as challenging as anything in the genre.

But trails is all about the characters and the mysteries. If those hook you youll be a fan for life. And those get better and better and better and better.

I just can't stop. I sit down deciding what to play and this feels like... "i need a lotta time so nah". But then I load it anyway and never regret it.

I'm doing Chapter 2 for Tessa right now. Need to level her a bit. Had a combo by the chapter boss which wiped the party. The game is good at letting you know when to level by pummeling you :D

ClockShot 12-30-2022 05:56 PM

Finally started up Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This is gonna be weird, isn't it?

35 hours in. Just discovered the god damn job shrines I feel like I missed forever ago, thereby making the game harder than it should be, ha! Have them all now, and finishing up Chapter 2 for Alfie. Holy shit @ Primrose's story, game got dark AF reeeeeeeeeeal fast.

It's awesome, and feeeeeeels like a "new" game. Maybe it was the sound effects & world design, but it feels great.

I have a save file omw to Ganon, but I've not bothered picking it back up. Amazing game though. Kinda like Elden Ring, Zelda edition.

Fignuts 12-31-2022 02:28 PM

There are games where you can literally feel the shitzillion dollars that went into making it. I don't think I've ever felt that as hard as I am right now while playing Ragnarok.

I was thinking "Why the fuck was Link on ice and thawed out to become Master Chief?" Literally.

Worried Nintendo might have ran out of scenarios for Zelda after all these years and they gotta start mooching off other games.

Sepholio 12-31-2022 04:10 PM

Wouldn't it be more like Elden Ring ripped off Zelda though?

Emperor Smeat 01-01-2023 05:37 PM

Bayonetta 3
Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Bought both around the time they were released last year, played like one level each and then lost the urge to keep playing until late last month.

Feels like that habit got even worse for me in 2022 with the amount of games I bought and quickly dropped. Best might have been with Seikro where I reached the first real boss fight, got pounced off a cliff during the second attempt at it, and then lost all the urge to continue.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-01-2023 09:33 PM

Beat

High On Life
Far Cry 6

Currently:
Lego Star Wars Skywalker saga.

Sekiro is insanely unforgiving. I bought it on sale and think I got to the horse boss fight and noped outta there. The world getting harder as you get thrashed also sucked. I did give it 3-5 restarts to really try, as I enjoy FromSoftware games a bunch. This one though..... this one will take time I simply don't have.

Monster Hunter Rise launches on gamepass soon, that's gonna be fun!

drave 01-02-2023 11:58 AM

Taking a break from Octopath. That game is fucking beefy! Started hearing battle music in my sleep, along with the menu "beeps". I've completed Chapter 2 for everyone, and 3 for a couple party members, around 42ish hours playtime.

solid 9.9/10

Destor 01-04-2023 12:18 AM

I passed 100 hours on it. Totally worth it. The true boss is my favorite boss fight of all time
