Elin Kaven - Eamiritini 6.7/10
Sami-influenced pop music. Kalenda Maya - Norske Middelalderballader 8/10 Norwegian medieval music. |
Ranarim - Morning Star 7.5/10
|
Hedningarna - Karelia Visa 7/10
|
Lol I don't think so
|
Frifot - Jarven 8/10
|
Sviatoslav Richter and Borodin Quartet - Dvorak: Piano Quintets Nos.1 & 2 7.7/10 (I give the second quintet 8.5/10 by itself)
|
Tone Hulbækmo - Kåmmå No 7.7/10
|
Valravn - Koder På Snor 7/10
|
Ricky Rebel - The New Alpha
100/10 |
Sinikka Langeland - The Half-Finished Heaven 7.7/10
|
New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies 7.8/10
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz 7.8/10 |
Heilung - Ofnir 6/10
Not that many in the way of "tunes," mostly spoken word and ambience kind of thing; perhaps I was expecting something more like Wardruna. It might grow on me in the future. Merja Soria - Arctic Silence 7.3/10 A solid Finnish folk music album. |
|
Jenny Lewis - On the line 7.5/10
Ensemble 415 - Johann Schobert: Quartets, trios and sonatas for Piano 7/10 |
Last weekend, I finally got around to Thom Yorke - Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. Thumbs up all around, aided by the fact that I was tending a campfire and looking up at stars.
|
Laura stevenson's The Big Freeze is interesting... much different from her other, not really catchy, more "intimate"
|
Lena Willemark and Ale Möller - Nordan 8/10
|
The Beatles - Revolver 8.5/10
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper 8/10 After years of avoiding them, I decided to finally give The Beatles a go, and bypassing the fluffy, sugary pop stuff, went straight for when they started to become more experimental; I enjoyed the records a lot and will be checking more of their stuff out. |
VH1 Storytellers Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash-8/10
Damn good live versions of some classics from two of the best ever. |
Anna Rynefors & Erik Ask-Upmark - Dram 7.3/10
Paco De Lucia - Sirocco 7.5/10 |
The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour 8.9/10
My favourite Beatles album so far. |
Barclay James Harvest - Barclay James Harvest 7/10
|
Torche - Admission 8/10
Cracking record. |
Emma Kirby and Fretwork - Byrd: Consort Songs 7/10
I'm not particularly into Elizabethan consort music, but it's not bad. |
Maija Kauhanen - Raivopyörä 7.7/10
|
Il Giardino Armonico - Vivaldi : Concerti da camera, Vols 1-4 10/10
This is one of those rare instances that I give an album (or boxset in this case) full marks. Pieces and performances are exceptional. I know you are all too cool to listen to Classical music, but if you've never gone past Vivaldi's Four Seasons, you are missing out. Kardemimmit - Autio Huvila 8/10 |
Baroness - Yellow & Green 6/10
Not particularly impressed; I've had their Blue album for years, but that has never really grabbed me either, but I decided give this record a go. |
Kardemimmit - Onni (Happiness) 7.8/10
It doesn't grab me as much as the previous album, but still a solid, enjoyable record. I'm going to get their most recent record in a couple of weeks. |
Ignore
|
Tool - Fear Inoculum 7/10
A solid album, but it doesn't touch Lateralus or Aenima, and 10,000 Days is a more enjoyable album as well; it's not an essential record. |
Started watching Booksmart. Starting to regret it. We will see.
Felated itself half a dozen times in the first 10 mins about how progressive this is going to be. Lesbians! Trans! No gender bathrooms! Stupid cis gender males! Powerful Women! "If Mean Girls was shit" is the way this is trending. |

Ranarim - For Varlden Alskar Vad So 7.5/10
|
Jethro Tull - Aqualung 8/10
Solid prog rock record. |
Vilma Timonen Quartet - Drops 7.5/10
Huey Lewis and the News - Sports 7.5/10 |
Kardemimmit - Kesäyön valo 7.5/10
Fabio Biondi/Europa Galante - Vivaldi: Concerti per viola d'amore 8/10 |
The English Concert - Johann Christian Bach: Quintets and Sextet 8/10
Sinikka Langeland - Har Du Lyttet Til Elvene Om Na 7/10 |
Barry White - Stone Gon' 8/10
So cheddar, but damn, if you suffer from anxiety or are feeling agitated, you should listen to this record; it will mellow you out like a motherlover. Right on! |
Planet of the 8s - Tourist Season 7.7/10
A strong sophomore effort, but I found the first album a bit more engaging. |

After nearly six years, I decided to get a couple of other Brand New albums; listened to one this week and I'll listen to the other in the new year. Brand New - Deja Entendu 7/10 |
Frifot - Frifot 7/10
Trio Mediaeval - A Worcester Ladymass 8/10 |
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick 7.7/10
This is supposed to be their magnus opus, but I prefer Aqualung; still a very good album, though. |
|
Elder - The Gold and Silver Sessions 8/10
Entirely instrumental EP and more low-key than what they usually produce, but I enjoyed it a lot. Vasen - Trio 8/10 Pieter-Jan Belder - Rameau: Complete Works for Harsichord 8/10 A solid week of music enjoyment. |
Peppa Pig - My 1st Album
0 Before anyone ask i was watching my 3yr old niece today. |
Car Bomb - Mordial 7.7/10
As I mentioned in one of the threads in the Casual Forum, if you like Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan, you'll probably like this album. |
36 Crazyfists - The Tide and its Takers 6.5/10
A solid effort, but this band has never been more than a mid-card (at most) act. |
Okra Playground - Ääneni Yli Vesien 7.7/10
|
Lacuna Coil - Black Anima: 7/10 Heavier than usual but it's not like I don't listen to other heavy stuff. Dark Adrenaline is still the gold standard but Cristina manages to always be the most talented person in the room nine times out of ten.
|
I haven't listened to anything by Lacuna Coil since their Comalies album; I occasionally listen to Unleashed Memories, but its been a while.

Folk'Avant - Gryningsland 7.7/10
A Swedish/Finnish folk trio, made-up of vocals, fiddle and kantele. Good stuff, you savages. |

Kansas - Point of Know Return 7/10
Mad cheddar, and not as strong as Leftoverture, but I enjoyed it. |
A-Ha - Hunting High and Low 7/10
Solid 80s synth pop. |
Elizabeth Wallfisch - Vivaldi: Six Violin Sonatas Opus 2 7.7/10
Not in the same league as his chamber concertos, but some solid pieces if you like baroque music. |
Magnitude - To Whatever Fateful End
10/10 For fans of Strife/Trial/Strain. 90’s sounding hardcore at its finest. |
Tears for Fears - The Hurting 8.3/10
A cracking debut album. I look forward to getting their Songs from the Big Chair record. Kayleth - Colossus 7/10 If you like Kyuss, you will probably dig the album, though it is nothing new. |
Rönsy - Juureilevia Tarinoita 8/10
A three-piece all-female Finnish folk group made up of vocals, kantele, upright bass and a chromatic button accordion. Simple but very good. Brand New - Science Fiction 7.5/10 |
Loretta Lynn Greatest hits- 9/10
|
Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair 8/10
This album is supposed to be their magnus opus; its bigger, bolder and more polished, but I prefer their first album, The Hurting. Enkel - Pappilan hääyö 8/10 Wardruna - Gap Var Ginnunga 7.5/10 |
Kardemimmit - Kaisla 7.8/10
|
Massivet & Kongero - Vaerla Vaken 7.7/10
Solid Swedish folk music. |
Going to keep this spot warm for when the new Ignea album drops this Friday. It's been a long three years since the last one but I'm so glad I stumbled across them.

Heilung - Futha 7/10
I think it is a stronger album than the first, though mainly because the female vocals are more prominent and there are less spoken-word tracks, though I don't think any of the tracks match Krigsgaldr from the first album. |
Rönsy - Rönsy 7.7/10
Slightly weaker than the previous album of theirs that I listened to a few months ago. Velnias - Scion of Aether 7/10 |
Meg The Stallion-Suga
7/10. Would be a 10 but i only like 6 of the 9 songs. |
Vasen - Keyed Up 7/10
Ulcerate - Stare Into Death And Be Still 7/10 Two solid albums. |
Unaja - Unaja 8/10
Arja Kastinen - Ani 8/10 Men at Work - Business as Usual 8/10 Gunship - Gunship 7/10 Lex van Delden - Orchestral Works 6.5/10 |
Elder - Omens 7.7/10
It is definitely nowhere near as awesome as their last album, Reflections of a Floating World (I gave it at 9/10), and I feel it is also not as strong as the EP they brought out last year, The Gold & Silver Sessions, but it is still a solid and enjoyable record. Barbra Streisand - The Barbra Streisand Album 8/10 Her debut from 1963,. To say she was only 20 when she recorded this record, the power of her voice and her control over it is remarkable. |
2012 EP from "Sour Guy" really good... first three songs really good, last two not memorable
|
Protest the Hero - Fortress 6.8/10
Dream Theater and Dillinger Escape Plan had a baby, but a fairly unremarkable one. The End - Splinters from an Ever-Changing Face 7.3/10 I posted this album in the Casual Forum, so check it out; nothing new for this genre of music, but they do it well. |
Listened to a bunch of albums on the drive up to
Maine... new Waxahatchee album is really good... i think i listened to something by aimee mann which was fine... have to look in my notebook for more. oh i listened to something “guava” by Ween... was one nice song sandwiched amongst a bunch of ridiculous ones... the end was just a bunch of annoying noises... why would anyone recommend this to someone |
Garmarna - Guds Speleman 7.5/10
Deep Purple - Machine Head 8/10 Rainbow - Rising 8.5/10 |
Entombed - Wolverine Blues 7.5/10
|
Norma Jean - All Hail 8/10
Hedningarna - Kaksi 7/10 |
Ranarim - Till Ljusan Dag 8/10
Rush - Hemispheres 7/10 |
Dio - Holy Diver 8/10
Floating Sofa Quartet - The Moon We Watch Is the Same 8/10 A solid couple of weeks of rockin' and folkin'. |

Les Zéoles - Arborescences 8/10
You'd think an album comprised of primarily two accordions (one diatonic and the other chromatic) would be boring, but you'd be wrong. Rammstein - Sehnsucht 7.7/10 This album should probably get a 10/10 just for the sheer audacity of the group, but it was the slightly weaker of the two albums I've been listening to these past two weeks. |
Fuckin Covid...had tix for Rammstein Boston.
I'm revisiting Chronic Future...good 90s-mid 00s rap/rock |
Genesis - Wind & Wuthering 8/10
This feels like a more natural successor to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway; Trick of the Tail, which followed LLDB and was the first record without Peter Gabriel, retreated to something more akin to Selling England by the Pound. Rammstein - Mutter 7/10 Not as good as the first album, but perhaps the ridiculousness is just not as potent the second time round. Floating Sofa Quartet - Neighbourhood 7/10 A decent record, but it felt like they were playing it safe compared to their first outing. |
ASG - Survive Sunrise 6.5/10
Unremarkable hard rock/stoner rock album, but not objectionable. Folk & Rackare - Rackarspel 8/10 1970s Swedish folk group with a Fairport Convention vibe. Cécile Corbel - La Fiancée 8/10 A French singer/songwriter; her vocals remind me of Gregory and the Hawk (but French), but musically the record has a faux-mediaeval vibe. I think the orchestration could be toned down on some of the tracks, but overall I found the album an enjoyable listening experience. |
Gjallarhorn - Ranarop 8.3/10
Their first album and perhaps their best. Deftones - Ohms 8.3/10 Their best album in a long time; they seemed to be more song focused, rather than exploring textures and sounds, and it has paid off. |
Labi Siffre - Remember My Song 7/10
Solid record, but it suffers from having its best song, "I Got The," as the first track and the album struggles to reach those heights again. Robert Palmer - Clues 7.5/10 Low-key electro-poppy stuff; I enjoyed it and will probably buy more of his albums. |
'The Realms of Fire and Death' by Ignea - 7/10
I just love these guys and am proud to back them via Patreon. I'm always down for metal but here they show some chops with variety with the song "What For". The vocalist, Helle, can go from melodic to growl at the flick of a switch and doesn't miss a beat. It was sad to hear, however, that two of the members tested positive for COVID-19. The dream of getting to see them live gets fainter and fainter everyday. I'd recommend these guys to anyone interested in foreign metal bands. I'd start with "Alga" and "Alexandria" if you're down for checking them out on YouTube to get an idea of what Ignea is all about. |
The Green Mile - 10/10
|
Has anyone watched the Majestic? I'm considering watching that next.
|
Dua Lipa, Future Nostalgia. 8/10
Not my usual cup of tea, since I generally don't listen to pop. But she's awesome and the songs are all well written, catchy AF, and expertly produced. |

Benee - Hey U X
I dig it. |
'Manifest' by Amaranthe. I've put off this one for whatever stupid reason. Absolutely fell in love with them after hearing "Drop Dead Cynical" a few years back and they were actually the first concert I ever attended. This album is going to have to get a 6 out of 10, though. It feels like too much of more of the same from the last go around with "Helix". Niles is a fine replacement but I miss Jake as time goes on. Elize is still the goddess that she is and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon.
