According to Forbes, high end estimates for Double or Nothing's PPV buys is around 200,000 based on Google trends. Doesn't mean the real numbers will be as high or close to it but Forbes did state it does show that there was WWE-like level of interest for this show.

Meltzer reporting Double or Nothing did 98k buys, making it (easily) the most successful non WCW or WWE ppv buyrate ever.

I love Big Dave, but that’s a bit skewered. It’s been about the only “big scale” wrestling on PPV since TNA, if you consider that. Meltzer reported that 40,000 for Ortiz vs. Liddell was “ice cold.” Bellator would hover around 100,000 and was not considered PPV success. 98k is good with qualifiers.

The very first official show of a new wrestling company is a pretty fucking important qualifier though. It’s not like he’s reaching.

98k buys for a promotion using ppv to debut their productwithout zero tv to build up to it, zero matches to my knowledge, and solely internet hype and vignettes, that's a huge fucking number.

Well, he is seemingly conflated a lot of the data. The 98k is apparently a worldwide number, which means that it must be amalgamated information from across OTT media too, since I know that DoN didn't air on PPV over here, yet Meltz is crediting Australia as being one of the biggest international markets. It was $20 on the FITE app.

So 98k seems to be the number across traditional PPV and streaming services worldwide. Two thirds of that would still put them ahead of TNA's best domestic buy-rate, but that is a worldwide number for AEW across many platforms with quite a few stakeholders.

I'd like to think that the number will get a lot bigger with TNT exposure, but I don't think the internet and being the first AEW show are necessarily points holding back the buys. I mean, being new may have coerced more people into feeling obligated to support it, or help them feel like they're getting in at that ground-level.

I mean, I'm still hopeful they completely blow people's expectations out of the water with television ratings. I'm one of those knobs that doesn't see a reason they can't beat WWE on cable. I don't know why anyone who puts them through three hours of Raw would not give two hours of AEW a go. I just think that this "PPV number" is a little bit...tricky.

It's a fine start though. I'm not trying to call it a failure or anything, lol.

When it comes to Meltzer, everything related to AEW is gonna be conflated given how tight he is with the Bucks.

I know he's tight with them and he probably desperately wants this to succeed, like we all do, but I don't necessarily think that's going to be the case. I mean, what he's not saying is not untrue -- I can unpack what he means from it -- he's just worded it as nicely as possible and in the best possible way to put the babyfaces over.

Yeah, the blue threw me too. Don't get why he wouldn't go red and black since he said he was going "full Alucard". Maybe they were afraid it wouldn't show up well with the lighting and opted for the royal blue "Royal Cloak" look.

Speaking of Shawn Spears, I was never a big fan of Tye Dillinger. Granted I wasn't in on the NXT heel run and the Perfect 10 gimmick being a face set me off a bit. He looked like a completely different person though at Double or Nothing though and I dug it.

I'm actually ok with that. You can use the ppv name as part of the storytelling. Doesn't have to be set in stone.

permanent would mean next years show would be "All Out" as well. Since they changed from "All In" to "All Out" for the same show as last year I doubt they will keep it as "All Out" for next year, meaning its not a permanent name (unless you want to classify it like WWF did with In Your House with the Word All being used as In Your House and they keep changing the word after All every year).

They changed it from “All In” to “All Out” because “All In” had a specific meaning for that show. They were going “All In” on the bet made with Meltzer. They changed the name because the meaning no longer fits the show.

Now they’re going “All Out”. Which is a more proper name for a yearly event. And since Cody has already confirmed that it, along with “Double or Nothing”, will be the main PPVs for the company, then yes. It will likely be a permanent event.

Feels like Moxley vs Omega should be the title match. Hangman Page feels midcard. Shockingly, winning a comedy battle royal has not made him a star in my eyes.

No it's a real show just not on the level of All Out/All In type shows, which are bigger deals and are probably going to be akin to AEWs WrestleMania. Fyter Fest is basically one of a few smaller shows they will be doing to bridge the gap between the big shows while they wait on their TV deal to start.

Can't wait for Fyter Fest. Should be interesting seeing Moxleys first AEW match and how they handle him being the IWGP US Champ atm.

Between that match and the Moxley vs Janela match, it seems like they’re just trying to get their newer unknown guys a little face time with the stars while building the stars up and not blowing through all their main event feuds.

Shit was flying off Stub Hub after the sell out. Had tickets get bought before I could get my info in at least 10 times before I got some.

Wish scalping sites didn’t exist. Tired of people buying tickets to events they have no intention of going to and then just jacking up the rates for people who actually want to be there.

But it’s here to stay.

The ease of it and knowing the tix you're buying aren't fake are the cost of the system.
