Wonder how much that cost for the shout out...

XL 04-26-2020 06:58 AM

I hope there was a transaction involved. Otherwise the President is posting about wrestling in the middle of a worldwide crisis.

XL 04-26-2020 07:01 AM

I don’t think I’ll be telling anybody anything their didn’t already know but, the Network is not good.

I was thinking about the participants in the Cruiserweight and Mae Young Classics so used the search function to search for the shows. The 1st MY Classic is listed in there as Season 1, but not the 2nd season, although all of the matches are on there separately. Makes no sense.

#1-norm-fan 04-26-2020 10:22 AM

There are times where I think “Maybe I’m on the wrong side of the battle” when I long for pro wrestling to be more like it used to be.

But then something comes along to remind me that Trump and McMahon are firmly together on the other side of this battle and I instantly think “No. I’m definitely right.”

Buckle Bomb is whiplash waiting to happen at least and a spinal injury at worst, though considering Nia's past she can easily fuck up even simpler moves. Remember the shoulder breaker to Charlotte, she just dumped her on her head after the move.

Yeah I saw that the other day and winced. Not good.

XL 04-26-2020 01:11 PM

Question; is the search function on the forum faulty? I searched using a keyword and poster name but it’s giving me no results. When I search for posts by user it shows me results from 2013-2014.

I remember watching it live. Nasty.

Damian Rey 2.0 04-26-2020 02:39 PM

Nia sucks. She has no natural ability, no natural charisma and she isn't safe in the ring.

He still would be even with payment

Apparently Triple H's celebration segment on Smackdown originally was meant to be a lot shorter in length.

Would explain why it quickly unraveled and became an entertaining but very odd trainwreck to watch on tv.

Apparently Jerry Lawler's reason for why he called one of Akira Tozawa's moves a "Ramen Noodle Moonsault" is just as dumb as when he mentioned it on RAW a couple weeks ago.

Basically Byron Saxton and Tom Phillps are to blame for not going along with his inappropriate gag and letting his dumb comment be exposed out in the open.

On the April 13th edition of the show, Lawler was calling an Akira Tozawa-Austin Theory match with Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton when he referred to a Tozawa senton as a "Ramen noodle moonsault". The comment was later edited out of the Hulu edition of the show.

At the 53 minute mark, Lawler asked his co-host if he could address the elephant in the room about the comment and why being racist was "the furthest thing from his mind."

He said he was doing commentary in 2016 with Mauro Ranallo and given Ranallo's history with Japanese wrestling, he heard him call a move something that he figured was made up because he had never heard of it before. He said he later made up some names of what he thought would be funny moves to go back at Ranallo at when he called a move.

"I would say something like, "There’s the Ramen Noodle moonsault" and he would say, "Oh, King! You know there's no such thing!" and we would just go on. I was doing it just to play devil’s advocate with Mauro. If I were still doing commentary with Michael Cole or JR, we had the chemistry to where each one of those guys would have known that I was almost making a fool out of myself by claiming like I was acting like I knew what this unbelievable looking move was.

"Then either Cole or JR would have said ‘"Oh, King! You know better than that!" With Byron and Tom, we don’t have that chemistry yet. We have only been working together for a short time so when I said that, they didn’t even acknowledge it so it kind of went out and they just kept talking and I kept talking. I didn’t think anything about it either.”

Lawler and his co-host then intimated that the intent was that the joke was supposed to be on him for being behind the times.

"That’s where me, Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura...all of the heel commentators do that sort of stuff and the joke is on yourself that the people out there say, "Look at that idiot. He doesn’t even know what he’s talking about and he thinks he does.' That's where the joke was."

Lawler did not apologize for the comment and remains on the commentary team for Raw.

It's very possible for it to look good, but it's been happening a LOT, and I think it looks bad more often than not.

These posts were made before that thread, and you know it.

Anybody Thrilla 04-26-2020 11:45 PM

That quote function is all yours, though.

XL 04-27-2020 03:20 AM

So it’s Lawler’s colleagues fault that they didn’t want to draw attention to his racist commentary by addressing it on air? Nice one.

Droford 04-27-2020 03:24 AM

Heenan and Ventura wouldn't last an hour on commentary today #sadfacts

XL 04-27-2020 04:04 AM

Only they would because they’d be smart enough and talented enough to align to the standards on modern society and still remain hilarious. Lawler has largely been a one-trick pony on commentary which worked in the 90s but the company and society have moved on since then.

Tbf, back in the 80s there’s a strong chance that the actual move would have been called the Ramen Noodle Moonsault”.

Evil Vito 04-27-2020 08:11 AM

While I don't agree, there is a point to what Lawler's saying.

One of the go-to kneejerk responses when a joke like that gets made in wrestling is for people to say, "lol wot would u have done when jesse ventura and bobby heenan were around".

But the point is that Heenan was always a clown, and always presented as being wrong. You knew that if Heenan said something, you were supposed to disagree with it, and someone like Vince or Gorilla Monsoon would call him out on it.

But even if Lawler's trying to do that now, I couldn't tell you on a day-to-day basis if Jerry Lawler is supposed to be a clownish heel commentator or a beloved and respected babyface Hall of Famer. Without that consistency, that kind of joke can't land, even if you can handwave away the racism.

Anybody Thrilla 04-27-2020 08:46 AM

Lawler used to say some really awful things on commentary back in the day, but as someone pointed out, EVERYTHING he said was awful, and it was in alignment with his heel character. Today's Lawler just comes off as senile.

The promos he did on Goldust are even worst ! At least in wwe he was a heel, in Memphis he was a face with the same promos !!

Ha, I guess it's all relative, huh?

I remember him flat out saying "fag", unless I'm imagining that. I don't think I am, though.

That Spike was really a cunt hair away from impaling rollins.

First time i've even noticed the cage has spikes on it that secure into carriers on the ring.

Jerry Lawler is a one trick pony but Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura were too talented to make the same mistakes now? They all had the same proclivity for saying outrageous things...

Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan wouldn't last five minutes today and you know it.

Personally I find Jerry Lawler to be the best of the bunch and I think wrestling heels should go for cheap heat as often as they can get a reaction with it.

Bring it back.

Seanny One Ball 04-27-2020 02:17 PM

JR & King were the best of all time.

All time.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-27-2020 02:38 PM

I prefer Gorilla and Bobby @Seanny

Seanny One Ball 04-27-2020 02:46 PM

Gorilla and Bobby are second for me.
Ventura was okay, I don't really rate him though because his voice annoys me.

XL 04-27-2020 03:24 PM

JR & Heyman > JR & King
