DC has decided to end the Superman comic and replace it with a new series.

Quote:

Superman: Son of Kal-El

The action begins on July 13 as a new ongoing monthly series, Superman: Son of Kal-El, replaces the current Superman monthly title. Written by Tom Taylor (Nightwing, DCeased, Suicide Squad) with art by John Timms (Young Justice, Harley Quinn), this series follows the new adventures of the son of Superman as he's entrusted with the protection of Earth.

Jonathan Kent has experienced a lot in his young life. He's fought evil with Robin (Damian Wayne), traveled across galaxies with his Kryptonian grandfather, and lived in the future with the Legion of Super-Heroes, who were intent on training him for the day his father could no longer be Superman. There is a hole in the Legion's history that prevents Jon from knowing exactly when that will happen, but all signs point to it being very soon. It's time for the son to wear the cape of his father and continue the never-ending battle as a symbol of hope for his home planet.

Action Comics will continue and will focus on Superman leaving Earth. Grant Morrison will write a 4-issue miniseries about Supes and The Authority teaming up to battle Mongul to set it up. It's rumored Superman finds another Krypton like planet and Action Comics will be based there going forward.

No clue if Bendis will acknowledge any of this in Justice League (leaning towards "No" since Bendis just tends to do whatever he wants, continuity be damned). Speaking of Bendis/Justice League, in his latest issue he revealed a new twist

SPOILER: show

Naomi's homeworld is the only planet not part of the Multiverse, it exists separate from everything

Here's the covers for Action Comics and the Supes miniseries coming out the same time as the new Jonathan Kent Superman title.

Was still holding out a shred of hope for the next writer to come in after Bendis to just undo what he did and de-age Jon.....

slik 04-21-2021 05:00 PM

DC has also announced a Booster Gold/Ted Kord Blue Beetle miniseries for the summer by Dan Jurgens

Can't wait

I pretty much haven't watched Flash/Supergirl/Batwoman since their season premieres and have tons on my DVR waiting to be watched..... but this. This is must watch weekly entertainment.

Ruien 04-29-2021 06:20 PM

Watching DC Titans on HBO Max. 5 episodes in and can't get enough of it. Where did this show come from?

Lock Jaw 04-29-2021 06:31 PM

DC Universe.

I watched the first season of that and it was like trainwreck I couldn't look away from. Never did bother watching the second season.

Its addicting. Its swerve after swerve after swerve. Just had the episode where there were 2 Robins. 1 episode a day is about all I can handle but I look forward to each episode every day.

Lock Jaw 05-02-2021 08:12 PM

I remember 0 swerves

Ruien 05-03-2021 06:03 PM

Maybe because you read the comics? I am just some general viewer. I didn't even know there were two different Robins. And then what the second Robin does when the police come.

Lock Jaw 05-03-2021 06:23 PM

There's been like 4 Robins

KEEN

mitchables 05-03-2021 08:45 PM

the best thing they could do for the lantern series is either avoid hal entirely or have him in it an an extremely peripheral context

i loved the rebirth lantern corps series with john as the commander and guy as his right hand

if they follow that dynamic and use kyle, jess and baz in some side/recurring capacity and hal extremely sparingly if at all, then they're on the right track imo

that said it'd be great/arguably better even if they just used john and guy, probably don't need more than two human leads in a show about space cops

slik 05-03-2021 08:48 PM

Wish Lock Jaw would just let Ruien enjoy that tv series in peace....

mitchables 05-03-2021 08:51 PM

honestly season 2 was heaps better than season 1. superboy, krypto, deathstroke, dr light, aqualad, semi 'judas contract' b-story, dick becomes nightwing etc

actually pretty keen for season 3

slik 05-05-2021 06:45 PM

The newest Batman, with the introduction of Miracle Molly had massive sales per BleedingCool dot com, double what Batman usually does.

Can read it for free at link below...I enjoyed it, a very cyberpunk direction for Batman

From James Tynion (current head Bat writer)'s blog

Quote:

"For the last decade of working in Gotham City, there were so many times where people would ask about their favorite Bat-Family member and not be able to explain the weird internal politics that were acting as a barrier to seeing those characters get the spotlight they deserve… But right now? There's a plan for ALL of them. Gotham City is a whole superhero universe in and of itself, and we're all working together to build this exciting tapestry of superhero awesome that brings each of them forward and lets them shine. Your favorite characters are in good hands, and we've got some incredible stories cooking."

"There's some Tim Drake stuff coming that I am particularly thrilled about, and cannot wait for you all to read. Teenage Tim Drake fanboy James was cheering on his feet reading the outline for this upcoming story."

Bleeding Cool is reporting DC is ALREADY planning another CRISIS event...I thought Death Metal was supposed to be the last one for a long-time since it tied the previous Crisis events into one big story...

Quote:

Bleeding Cool now hears from editorial sources that there will definitely be a Crisis event planned from DC Comics in 2022 that will lead into a much bigger event in 2023. This is all part of DC's Four Year Plan that began in 2020 with Death Metal, carried through into 2021 with Future State and Infinite Frontier… it's all part of a big plan.

I assume this means Bendis will be writing it since he's the current Justice League writer....

Wow, that comic book sucks. Big time.

drave 05-08-2021 08:40 AM

If yall find any of the Batman x Fortnite comics, in tact without the code used for a reasonable price, let me know.

dem ears tho

Also, god damn HBO max is getting a ton of shit.

slik 05-19-2021 04:24 PM

Not DC but we don't have a non-DC/Marvel comics thread

Really want to recommend RADIANT BLACK (Image Comics). First 4 issues were good.

Also coming to HBO Max

Jimmy Olsen randomly changing race again.... but at least unlike in the Supergirl TV show, he still seems like a NERD (I can tell via that tie)

Damian Rey 2.0 05-20-2021 02:07 AM

Excited for the new Batman series even tho I was hoping they’d revisit the original animated series

McLegend 05-20-2021 11:11 PM

After I saw that Caped Crusader post I looked the show up on IMDb. In the trivia section for the show all pieces of trivia are about how JJ Abrams sucks.

I don’t think that should be classified as trivia.

Lock Jaw 05-24-2021 04:24 PM

CW officially ordered Naomi to series..... guess it was cheaper than the Wonder Girl series they passed on.....

slik 05-24-2021 04:38 PM

Naomi series will probably reveal more about Naomi, like what exactly her superpowers are, long before Bendis bothers to in the comics (and this is with him giving Naomi her own series and adding her to Young Justice and now Justice League)

slik 05-24-2021 04:41 PM

While I'm enjoying his Justice League so far (knock on wood) it is so Bendis that he can't be bothered to even explain WHAT Naomi can do.

The art in her miniseries was great but it didn't need to be six issues to sum up her origin half-assed "She's from a planet where a gas caused a bunch of people to get superpowers and the planet is in ruin now so her parents sent her to Earth where she was found by a Rann and Thangarian, hiding on Earth together, who raised her as their own"

The only thing he's added so far in Justice League is that her planet is not part of the Multiverse/Omniverse and exists on it's own. What she can actually do, who knows.

Pretty kewl. Though to display it properly you would need to have it be like... the centerpiece of your room. You wouldn't be able to just have it on a shelf or something because you'd never see the back.

One of the dumbest takes on superheroes I've ever seen

I also wouldn’t be too hard on WB execs for having some reasonable concerns.

If Batman has mental health issues, is it appropriate to sell toys of that character? Damian Rey 2.0 06-08-2021 05:14 PM

I’m calling bullshit on WB being concerned. People forget that Reeves initially walked away from the project only to come back and sign on. No way he comes back without WB fully backing his idea and giving him full control over the direction the character going forward. It would make zero sense for them to suddenly change their time after filming has wrapped.

Also, Marvel sold toys for Iron Man 3 when Tony was having some heavy ptsd, which were followed with bouts of paranoia and depression up until he finally dies.

slik 06-08-2021 05:37 PM

Almost every superhero character ever has mental health issues, Warner isn't going to stop selling items with Joker and Harley on it either.

I think Fables really went "downhill" after a certain point but will def check it out....
