I was not familiar with Bendis before he came to DC outside of knowing he wrote some stuff at Marvel people liked so I assumed he would be really good...

First couple of issues of Superman/Action Comics/Young Justice/Naomi were interesting and then somehow everything became a huge mess where either nothing happened or he just changed things for no reason and then never did anything with the changes....

Hopefully Supes can get a better creative mind for the future bc Bendis really screwed up so many things for those characters. "EVENT: LEVIATHAN" was probably the worst 'event comic series' I have ever read and it really didn't even have enough content for half of one issue, let alone six issues. The title of the series didn't even make sense. The big thing that caused the series happened 'off-panel' and the series was supposed to be a mystery but then the mystery ended up being something no one could have guessed/solved bc he threw in a random character who had not been mentioned or appeared in the series before and was like 'ta da, here is the villain, did u guess it'.

Then it just ended with zero resolution to anything, absolutely none. Nothing happened and the one thing that did happen off-panel was just left unresolved and I don't think Bendis/DC bothered to mention it since...

Lock Jaw 12-05-2020 01:10 AM

Will never forgive him for messing with Jon Kent and breaking up the Super Sons

slik 12-05-2020 01:13 AM

"EVENT: LEVIATHAN"

issue 1 - heroes show up and talk about thing that happened off-panel

issue 2 - heroes continue talking

issue 3 - heroes continue previous conversation

issue 4 - heroes continue discussion

issue 5 - heroes talk about the same fucking thing again

issue 6 - identity of villain revealed, heroes talk for a while and then leave

Aging Jon Kent was the dumbest
"he got caught in a blackhole and now he's 17"

Superman reveals his identity to the world and has zero repercussions

Krypton didn't explode itself, it was a bomb from a space villain named Rogol Zarr...why did he blow up Krypton or hate it was never revealed or followed up on, Superman just beat him up for it and that's the end of Rogol Zarr

slik 12-05-2020 01:21 AM

I remember when Naomi crossed over into Superman too and it was basically "I have used my super senses to scan your body Naomi and you have super powers"

"yes I have superpowers Superman"

"yes Naomi you do have superpowers, how did u get them"

"there was a gas leak"

"i see, did I mention u have superpowers of some sort"

"thank you superman this changed my life"

Shadow 12-05-2020 09:12 AM

Truly Bendis is a more mind blowing comics writer then we thought.

This. Supersons is the brand of a lifetime, cartoons, toys, animated movies, a fucking gold mine and DC's like "nah".

The only good stuff Bendis wrote at Marvel was Alias. If you want good Bendis find his crime stuff from before he went to Marvel. His Sam&Twitch run was pretty good.

The new writer for Superman and Action comics is Eisner nominee Phillip Kennedy Johnson. He has written the indie series The Last God and is also an active full-time member of the U.S. Army.

Brian Bendis (unfortunately) teased the following image on IG, hinting that he will be the new Justice League writer with a team made up of Naomi, Nubia or Wonder Woman, Black Canary or Stephanie Brown (Spoiler), Batman, Superman, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Hawkgirl and Shazam or Black Adam.

In the far reaches of space, Mongul dreams of galactic domination, while the Green Lantern Corps hosts a summit of its greatest enemies. JUSTICE LEAGUE #59

On Sale 3.16.21

Writer Brian Michael Bendis reunites with artist David Marquez (Miles Morales, Iron Man, Batman/Superman) for a new, star-studded Justice League featuring Superman, Batman, the Flash, Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Hippolyta, new DC powerhouse Naomi, and…is that Black Adam?! Superman is leading the charge to reinvent the Justice League—and at the same time, a new, cosmic-powered threat arrives from Naomi's homeworld to rule the Earth!

He's a huge MC Hammer fan.

slik 12-20-2020 03:31 AM

Ghost Maker's backstory is he and Bruce always trained with the same masters growing up, at the same time and Bruce looked at him as a brother...but then Ghostie got pissed when he learned Bruce was fighting crime to avenge his parents instead of being the best 'for the art of it'...they had a huge falling out and agreed to never work in the same city as one another...but now they have been reunited and Bats has asked him to be his new partner in Gotham....

Lock Jaw 12-20-2020 11:45 AM

Randomly remembered this one Superman story I liked where some deadbeat dad ex-con dude switches bodies with Superman somehow because he was so envious of Supe's powers and how he didn't have to work hard and got everything.

He's all like "great, now I can actually make something of my life and have chances" but he finds being Superman so incredibly hard and taxing

Meanwhile, Superman is stuck in this dude's body and starts making his life better....

In the end, the dude willingly switches back because he found being Superman way too tough and stressful, and is surprised at what Superman has done in his life the short time he was living it and Superman is just all "we all have the chances to make our lives what we want, to make them better, and you don't need superpowers" or something like that....

Wish I could find it again to read it....

Lock Jaw 12-20-2020 11:49 AM

There's another Superman body-switching story I really like too....

Brainiac somehow transfers his mind into Superman's body, while transferring Superman's mind into the body of a young epileptic boy in a psych ward who has delusions that he believes that he is Superman.

Brainiac uses Superman's body to take over Metropolis and is working on the usual world domination....

But even trapped in the young boy's body, Superman busts out of the mental hospital and makes it to Metropolis to thwart Brainiac before his plan for world domination comes into effect

EDIT- This one is a 4-part story Adventures of Superman #536, Action Comics #723, Superman: The Man of Steel #58, Superman (v2) #114

Death Metal: The Secret Origin is actually a great one-shot and actually has a big pretty big story. If you like Superboy Prime it's a must read.

Just watched "The Killing Joke" for the first time last weekend. Holy shit, what an amazing story. Naturally, the best voice actors were still their roles with Conroy and Hamill. I'd watch it again.

Kalyx triaD 12-23-2020 01:51 PM

All that Babs stuff in the first act felt like padding the runtime. Could have been her own animated movie.

Didn't they make her and Batman get it on or something

Yeah this really awkward and out of character scene. The DCAU played with Bruce and Babs being a thing but it was weird there too.

Damian Rey 2.0 12-24-2020 12:33 AM

I personally found the killing joke animated movie to be a fucking snooze fest. It just didn't translate for me. That and the Hush adaptation.

Honestly I don't think they'll ever top the Dark Knight Returns 2 parter or Under The Red Hood as far as animated movies go. Those were fucking stellar.
