But will it be a first person shooter?

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-13-2012 02:08 AM

Movie tie-in games usually suck anyways. I'm glad they are taking the time to try to make the game good instead of just putting an Avengers label on anything they can.

DaveBrawl 05-13-2012 10:48 PM

The Captain America game was pretty fun I thought.

I didn't play the others though.

With a 60 at Metacritic and 63 at Gamerankings (360 version, didn't check the others), it seems almost universally hated. Now, I wouldn't let ratings stop me from enjoying a game, but it always turns my head when a game gets that low a score.

What was the last "good" movie tie in game? Spider Man 2?

It's funny, I think most of the praise for the Wolverine game was greater than that for the movie.

That game was brutal and hype.

The legal case involving the rights to the DOTA name between Valve and Blizzard has been decided as the courts sided with Valve over the ownership of the name.

Blizzard did gain rights to use the DOTA style for their upcoming game but have been forced to rename their game from DOTA to now All-Stars.

Blizzard tried to use the same tactic done against Mojang during the "Scrolls" case but this time a court did not accept Blizzard's claim of "DOTA" being seen as an identity and trademark of the Blizzard style in terms of consumer perspective.

Quote:

DOTA is, of course, the popular Warcraft III mod that somehow became a commercial sequel in development at Valve, even though Blizzard had decided to make its own official update of the mod for Starcraft II ...

... As per the settlement, Valve gets to keep the DOTA name for whatever commercial uses it might like--such as the eventual release of DOTA 2--and Blizzard fans are A-OK to use the name for any noncommercial projects without fear of legal reprisal. As for the upcoming official DOTA update from Blizzard, that has been renamed Blizzard All-Stars. Because apparently that was the best name they could come up with on short notice.

Blizzard had previously claimed that the DOTA trademark had too much history with Blizzard to be trademarked by another company. They stated in their original complaint that the name DOTA had "become firmly associated in the mind of consumers with Blizzard."

It's that low? I thought it was in the 70s when I checked it last fall which to me sounds about right. It wasn't anything special, but it was fun for what it was. Same with the Green Lantern game, it got a little repetitive at times, but it wasn't as bad as most made it out to be in my opinion.

Although I did find it odd that there was no difference in the 3 difficulty levels in the GL game. I played it through on all 3 and you didn't really get any more XP or receive more damage or anything on hard than you did on easy. You didn't really die that often either.

Partially due to the less than expected sales of Street Fighter X Tekken and as a way to ensure future games don't get hurt in terms of sales potential, Capcom announces they are considering reevaluating their entire on-disc DLC policy.

Quote:

“We have been listening to your comments and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how such additional game content is delivered in the future,” said Capcom senior VP of planning and business development Christian Svensson in its forums.
None of the changes will be made immediately or even potentially affect the rest of the games planned for this year like Dragon's Dogma which has been confirmed to contain on-disc DLC. The company instead will use the rest of this year to look into ways of pleasing and lessening the growing amount of complaints from the company's fanbase.

In regards to Dragon's Dogma, the decision to add DLC into the disc was made right at the start of development with the standard excuse of it being done to make downloading more convenient for users. Resident Evil 6 already has Day 1 DLC planned but it won't be until E3 before it becomes clear if its on-disc or as a separate package.

I love Capcom's excuses.

My favourite is still "We can't do couch co-op online because it's not possible on the 360." despite MK9 doing exactly that. Anyway, that became "We wanted to do couch co-op online but Microsoft wouldn't allow it" which became "We never said it was going to be on the 360 version" which became "We wanted to, guys, we just didn't have time...no, that doesn't mean we'll put it in later".

We're grow ups, though you wouldn't know judging by some people online, and I'd much rather they had just been honest and said "We made a deal with Sony to do A, B & C exclusively. So no A, B or C for the 360. Sorry."

Drakul 05-16-2012 09:08 AM

Sonic 4: Episode 2 is out now. I've only got the demo and I've already found something that could be "game breaking". Hold X and Sonic & Tails do a tag team spin dash. This turns the game into God mode as you plow through enemies and go so fast that you pretty much just sail over pits and up even totally vertical ramps.

New details in regards to the upcoming Tony Hawk HD set was revealed with the game expanding to include stuff from Tony Hawk 3.

Originally the plans were to only to use the first two games in the series as the source for the HD remake but Activision recently approved parts of Tony Hawk 3 to be added to the game.

Only levels from Tony Hawk 3 and supposedly the ability to revert will be added to the HD remake from the game. The levels will not be available once the game is released but instead as part of a post-launch DLC pack.

Quote:

Activision answered that question today by announcing that Tony Hawk HD will get Tony Hawk 3 levels after all... as DLC. Initially, DLC wasn't even something that had been announced for the game, but now it appears that following the game's launch, a selection of levels from Tony Hawk 3 will get the HD treatment.
Similar to how the levels for Tony Hawk 1 and 2 were selected for the remake, Activision will allow voting to be done for Tony Hawk 3 tracks on the official Facebook page for the game.

No status on the soundtrack was revealed but Activision did hint weeks ago they are working on trying to get some of the classic songs descended for the game.

So, apparantly, Max Payne 3 contains files from GTA V. The files being an uncomplete list of cars. We know the list is incomplete because it only lists one plane when the trailer showed three.

We know it's GTA because it features a lot of names GTA uses for cars and Max Payne 3 wouldn't use those names because it's another universe.

I've not read the whole list but it does seem to have some vehicles that sound quite exciting. Not because of the vehicle itself but because those particular vehicles make it sound as if the game could have certain features or locations.

Part of the lawsuit involving Activision and the former bosses of Infinity Ward was settled today as Activision settles the part of the lawsuit involving EA.

EA was brought into the lawsuit after it was discovered they were actively trying to get the former bosses and employees to break away from Infinity Ward after the release of Modern Warfare 2. The main issue involved unpaid bonus money and trying to gain rights of the franchise away from Activision.

Quote:

Electronic Arts was implicated after it was discovered Infinity Ward leadership Jason West and Vince Zampella had met with the publisher prior to leaving Activision and Infinity Ward. Soon after their termination, West and Zampella formed Respawn Entertainment and signed a deal with EA for a still unannounced shooter.
The terms of the settlement were not revealed while the remaining lawsuit against the former bosses is still scheduled to occur once the court hears the case on May 29.

Epic Games released the first screen shots from their Unreal 4 Engine with the emphasis on the vast upgrade in power and graphics possible in comparison to the Unreal 3 engine.

It is also part of the huge push the company wants console and mobile makers to consider when developing the next generation of devices with Epic hoping at least the next Xbox and PS4 go all out with the tech for the console market.

According to Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, last year's Samaritan demo was only meant as both a teaser for the next engine and what a maxed out Unreal 3 engine was capable. The true possibility of the Unreal 4 engine wasn't shown off in the tech demo.

Quote:

As early as last March, Epic was making the case for more power with a demo screened at the 2011 GDC. Called Samaritan and built in Unreal Engine 3 with a new set of specialized plug-ins, the video showcased the rendering power of current high-end hardware, displaying an impressive array of effects, like realistic clothing, lifelike lighting, and highly detailed facial expressions. It took three high-end graphics cards to handle the demand, but it grabbed people's attention. "We used it as an opportunity to make a point to the developers," Sweeney says. "‘We want 10 times more power; here's what we can do with it.

And that was merely for a souped-up version of Unreal 3. For Unreal 4, yet another quantum leap in hardware has to happen. Creating a game that operates on a level of fidelity comparable to human vision, Sweeney says, will require hardware at least 2,000 times as powerful as today's highest-end graphics processors. That kind of super-hi-def experience may be only two or three console generations away, but it hinges on manufacturers moving toward the power levels Sweeney is looking for today. He needs the next generation of consoles to be good.
The first game to use the Unreal 4 engine is expected to be released later this year by Epic Games at the earliest with more details probably being revealed during next month's E3 expo.

Photos of the pad make it look really big. It's only when you see someone holding it that you see it's a lot smaller than it looks.

Kane Knight 05-20-2012 09:20 AM

I'm more concerned with how it feels when you hold it. Both in terms of size and comfort. I mean, I don't expect it to be 90 lbs, but how will it feel when I've been playing for five, ten or thirty minutes?

Tablets are at least simplstic. When you add a lot of buttons, you have to hold it a certain way to access them.

Emperor Smeat 05-20-2012 05:47 PM

Doesn't seem like its changed at all in terms of actual size but if its anything like the E3 model, then the general feeling would still be the tablet is very comfortable to hold and use. Everyone who's held it always mentions the hand grips and pictures being very deceptive to the tablet's actual size.

Kotaku is saying the only things changed was a new button being added and start/select being moved to a new spot.
