Bit surprised the Hogan video was that low for views. The Otis one probably could have done better had WWE let the whole date thing play out more before Ziggy showed up.

I haven't really been following the trends, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bray Wyatt is a ratings loser. That guy is lame as hell.
|
Need to check to make sure but his segment usually do well and his segment last week with Goldberg was the highest of the show.
In terms of the bigger metric, he's been the company's highest merch seller for months now. |
This week's episode of RAW ended up being higher by around 100k compared to last week but also came close to hitting a sub 2-million number for the 3rd hour.
In terms of rankings, it took the #1, #2, and #4 spot. 90 Day Fiance took the #3 spot while blood rival Love & Hip Hop took the #5 spot. 8PM - 2,671,000 9PM - 2,559,000 10PM - 2,082,000 |

Seems the main reason for both increases was due to teenagers since that group went up the most for both shows. NXT did better with female teenagers and young adults while AEW did better with male teenagers and young adults.
Meltzer thinks the numbers probably would have been closer due to the Democratic debates hurting NXT's old demo the most despite that group went up and not down this week. Probably felt they would have been in the .40 range if it wasn't for the debates. |

It makes a legit case for him to beat The Fiend tbh

I’m totally in favor of that. Goldberg vs. Cena for the belt and Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns in a personal issue. Goldberg and Wyatt can win and Roman can turn heel coming out of it.

2nd hour going up is interesting considering it wasn't anything special and arguably the least interesting of the three hours.
Also probably didn't help last week was a somewhat dull show and this week was about the same. The build for the Saudi show has done more to hurt than help especially with it interrupting the build for the Chamber. |
Apparently last night's episode of WWE Backstage didn't crack the Top 150 for shows although Showbuzz Daily hinted there might have been an issue with their listing since something else was listed to have aired instead.
2nd time that has happened since Backstage's official launch in regards to not cracking the Top 150 and not because of a potential listing issue. |
Results for last night's AEW and NXT episodes:
AEW got 865k viewers, #9 ranking, and a 0.30 in the key demo ranking. NXT got 717k viewers, #17 ranking, and a 0.23 in the key demo ranking. The biggest surprise was AEW actually beat NXT in the 50+ demo for the first time ever and NXT got hammered badly in the teenager & young adult female demos compared to last week where that was the key area of their viewership increase. NXT's over-run number should be interesting when its revealed later since TNT and AEW countered it this week with the Countdown to AEW tv special. |
Apparently AEW had a double win of sorts over WWE last night.
Their Countdown special also beat last night's episode of Miz & Mrs. in terms of ranking and key demo rating but lost out on viewers by just 11k. |
AEW beating NXT for the first time in all demos is interesting.

What really hurt was after NXT ended, pretty much that entire over-run group switched back to the Countdown special and wrecked Miz & Mrs viewership as a result. |

2.25 avg for RAW seems low in Mania season
SD will top that number this week for sure. |
Yeah. So far this year's Road to Mania had the 2nd lowest and 3rd lowest RAW for non-holiday or sports week and there is still a month left to go to add to that list.
Last year's Road to Mania felt better mainly because it had 2 very hot stories going on despite WWE's efforts to mess it up. |
Tuesday's episode of Backstage didn't rank in the Top 150 shows for the 2nd week in a row.
3rd time its happened this year and 2nd time a back-to-back non-ranking has happened in series history. Lowest ranked show for the night did a 0.4 in the key demo meaning Backstage likely did less than that and potentially less than 104k viewers. |
Results for last night's AEW and NXT episodes:
AEW got 906k viewers NXT got 718k viewers Breakdowns and other details haven't been released yet but should be very soon. Biggest takeaway just from the viewership was AEW got a nice post-ppv bump from Revolution while NXT's plans to load up their show with 2 cage matches didn't really pay off for them in the end. Edit: AEW got a #5 ranking and 0.35 rating in the key demo while NXT got a #20 ranking and 0.23 rating in the key demo. |

3rd week in a row Backstage didn't rank in the Top 150.
Likely means it did less than a 0.4 rating and less than 101k viewers as well since that was the lowest ranked for each. Edit: According to PWI, last night's episode drew 35k viewers |

Results for last night's AEW and NXT episodes:
AEW got 766k viewers, #25 ranking, and a 0.26 rating in the key demo NXT got 697k viewers, a #42 ranking, and a 0.21 rating in the key demo. Both shows got hit hard by the sports and news coverage over the coronavirus with AEW taking the bigger hit numbers wise. Just two shows in the Top 15 were not news and/or sports related and only one did less than what AEW generated for viewers. 50+ demo was the only group that was almost the same as last week for both shows. |
I have a feeling it will hurt SD too and RAW as well in the ratings if this all keeps up.
|
Yeah probably will for at least the next few weeks considering how fast things have moved elsewhere in sports and entertainment.
Although with the lack of sports competition for the time being, it could also be somewhat beneficial as well. AEW and NXT might be able to get by with next week's shows if they just air the dark matches that were taped recently and work on some pre-produced segments that wouldn't need a crowd or even an arena for it. After that it starts to get tougher for AEW and less so for NXT since they have the PC. |
NXT retained 97.1% of their audience.
|
The age of the average NXT viewer is most susceptible to coronavirus - so that is unfortunate.
I applaud AEW's traditional viewing block for showing concern and interest in the pandemic while still pulling off a ratings victory. |

Kinda surprised it didn't have more views considering the lack of sports. Not gerd. Not gerd at all.
|
Yeah.
The numbers were up compared to last week but within the 2.4 to 2.5 million range they had been doing this year so far baring the Cena return one. So they didn't really take advantage of the lack of sports but then again still had to deal with their usual competition for Friday. Monday will probably be different since that usually has less stiff competition for non-sports. |
Don't people usually go nuts about the AEW demos even when the viewership is shit? Why is it the viewership with SmackDown and not that giant sexy demo?
|
Network shows are treated different than cable shows when it comes to ratings.
Network usually does way better when it comes to that stuff because everyone pretty much has all the network channels while cable channels is more dependent on the provider. That's why Showbuzz and Nielsen keeps them separate for ratings reports. |
I can understand why they'd be kept separate -- one is network and one is cable. But why is a demo audience important to one but not the other?
|
Ad rates for network shows are usually higher which is why those shows tend to cost more to make and/or get canceled quicker if they don't meet the higher demands.
With Smackdown, FOX needs a higher key demo average than usual to offset the huge sums of money they spent for the show and to counter wrestling bringing in less ad money than other sports or entertainment shows. Its why FOX's original expectations were around 3-4 million and a constant 1.0 average since they felt both would at least let them break even on ad money. |
|
172k increase is good but doesn't seem like they are really taking advantage of the situation.
Probably should have been larger considering the current circumstances for television and even in these times, 3rd hour still dragging the numbers down. Wouldn't be surprised if this week's SD and next week's RAW doesn't have a noticeable bump since WWE already showed the format they are sticking with for the time being. NXT made the smart decision to change their format for this week's show due to the circumstances. |
NXT got hammered big time for last night's AEW vs NXT shows.
AEW got 932k viewers, #20 ranking, and a 0.35 rating in the key demo NXT got 542k viewers, a #81 ranking, and a 0.16 rating in the key demo. News shows still dominated the rankings but AEW had sizeable increases in a several key demo areas and steady elsewhere or smaller increases. Since NXT didn't rank in the Top 50, the demo breakdowns were not listed. |
#81 for NXT surprises me, they lost to a Paddington cartoon. The number of viewers sounds about right for a recap show.
I hope AEW cracks 1 million soon, they've been on a roll and deserve it. |
The only non-news shows in the top twenty Tuesday night were Real Housewives of New Jersey at #4 (1.32 million) and AEW Dynamite at #20 (932k)
|

Considering Smackdown, RAW, and AEW all got a similar boost range, that probably means wrestling isn't going to see any real major boosts in numbers despite not having to worry about any sports competition for a while. |
Both wrestling and daytime soap operas are in a prime position to gain tv viewers and neither is likely to it seems.
|
I'm pretty sure AEW's viewership has peaked. Anyone who is going to enjoy that sort of wrestling has already found it.
|
Probably still a year away from knowing if that's the actual case. Right now, upper 900k seems to be AEW's limit with a pretty solid core in place.
Monday Night War needed around 2 years to build up their tv audiences to the level needed for the eventual boom to happen and that was with 2 already established companies. Only NXT is similar to that level of establishment but their experience with actual weekly tv is a lot newer. |
I'm curious to see the Double or Nothing buyrate this year compared to last.
|
Quote:
That said, I watched only Dynamite last night knowing NXT was going to have no actual live wrestling. It looks like AEW'S gained the the viewers NXT lost this week, but maybe they aren't splitting the audience as much as I'd speculated. Looks like there is only around 150k people who are sway the needle so to say one way or the other. |

The PC shows are hurting WWE. If they aired re-runs and classic matches only and did 'eh' ratings, it'd be expected.
Instead, they are pushing the biggest stars they have currently - they aren't giving fans any time to 'miss' WWE and tune back in big-time when crowds are back. If they continue taping after Mania they will have to find a way to maintain these numbers minus Goldberg, Cena, Undertaker, Brock, Roman and Edge. They better hope fans really want to see Drew face Orton or Seth and Braun face, IDK, Baron Corbin? |
Lmao who in the fuck wants to see Corbin?
|
Quote:
Like their solution for the available roster lacking in numbers is to just air lengthy past matches. The problem with that idea is that has been taking away valuable time that could have been used to improve Mania's poor build. Then you have them taking way too long to change things up with how they tape the shows which is why a lot of it feels awkward to watch and WWE not wanting to steer away from their typical routine. |
The longer this goes - I will start to wonder if WWE will be able to bounce back from all of this a bit - viewers, attendance, ppv pricing. It just seems like a recipe for disaster where the fanbase could shrink significantly.
And WWE being the biggest game in rasslin' town means that not's good for everyone else too. |
They definitely should have ran classic footage. Got no clue why they are doing what they are doing, or why anyone is to be honest. It's all garbage and it's all going to hurt them.
|
Quote:
Eh, maybe if they had changed things up for the past 15-20ish years.... maybe. But good lord if this whole event hasn't exposed them for the stale, SSDD crap they've been churning out, they wouldn't be hurting AS bad. Quote:

Eh. They still had a good week. |
Probably a mix of people not liking last week's empty arena show from AEW and assuming the same was going to happen this week and that MTV show taking away a good chunk of the young viewers for both shows.
Neither WWE nor AEW taking advantage of a lot more people being stuck at home during these past few weeks is a bit of a worrying sign. News shows doing monster numbers makes sense considering the situation but wrestling should have also been able to capitalize greatly with no sports around for the time being. |
Someone bet me that AEW would get over a million viewers during this quarantine.
