Film based on The Witcher series is currently in development by the same company responsible for The Mummy series.

Quote:

The movie's being headed up by The Sean Daniel Company, who produced The Mummy films. It's said to star Geralt of Rivia, but it won't tell any tale we're familiar with. Rather than being an adaption of any game or book, it'll draw on themes from the series to form its own narrative. This is said to be the first in a series of movies about The Witcher.

Tomasz Baginski has been tabbed as the director for the project. No actors have been announced yet. Right now, they're shooting for a 2017 release.

Former world record holder of Donkey Kong ended up losing a lawsuit against the makers of cartoon show Regular Show. Tried to claim the show was slandering his reputation while the judge sided with parody claims and how the real Billy Mitchell isn't a giant head that explodes.

Quote:

As a Regular Show fan, I couldn't forget their depiction of Billy Mitchell in the form of Garrett Bobby Ferguson -- a floating head that cheats at video games and holds the universe record for many titles. Apparently the actual Billy Mitchell sued the show despite the fact that it would clearly be protected under parody laws -- as of this week, the case was tossed.

According to the judge, the depiction is a "non-human creature, a giant floating head from outer space," while the real Mitchell is "a human being." Also, the judge noted that the Regular Show character "explodes," while the plaintiff "does not."

New film studio formed by Activision recently hired Stacey Sher as its co-president to go along with the recent hire of a former Disney executive as the other co-president.

Quote:

Activision Blizzard announced a new co-president for the studio today, film producer Stacey Sher, who has credits on The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, and World Trade Center starring Nicolas Cage. I saw that damn movie in theatres.

Sher joins other co-president, former Disney executive Nick van Dyk, in a bid to make all kinds of tangled universes. It's starting with a Skylanders animated TV show and plans for a Call of Duty "cinematic universe," with the "possibility of television adaptations" as well. Pulling a Marvel, basically, and trying to make the most money on its assets. This way Blizzard won't have to, say, partner with Legendary to make a Warcraft movie. And will ensure that nothing hits the cinemas besides loud, CGI-filled sequels priming you for the next entry.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in preproduction and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski will executive produce. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks.

Crystal Dynamics announced a new Tomb Raider film is currently in production and will be more of an origin story for the series and Laura Croft character. Also to be influenced by the series games for character direction.
Quote:

When asked about the impact of Crystal Dynamics’ rebooted version of Lara Croft on the film’s depiction of the character during an interview with IGN, Tomb Raider director Roar Uthaug said that the developer’s ability to make Croft relatable will “definitely” be reflected in the film.

“I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well,” he said. “I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I’m hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”

The director went on to say that he’d like to make Tomb Raider “feel like a modern action movie” with a realistic atmosphere. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who wrote the screenplay for 2017’s Transformers 5, will also be writing Tomb Raider, so let’s hope that “modern action” doesn’t translate into “explosion-centric.” Or, if the Michael Bay angle is unavoidable, at least have Lara Croft transform into a large truck.

Similar to The Walking Dead tv show, Game of Thrones will be getting its own special weekly recap show starting later this month.

Quote:

With the premiere of Game of Thrones season six just a few weeks away, HBO has now announced a new "after show" for the fantasy program. It's being headed up by talent from sports and entertainment veteran Bill Simmons' new network The Ringer, which HBO partnered with in 2015.

The new show, called After the Thrones, is similar to AMC's Talking Bad and Talking Dead, in that hosts will recap and analyze the events of the latest episode. The show will air the Mondays after new episodes through HBO Go, HBO Now, and HBO On Demand, as well as via traditional cable at a later date.

Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, who previously worked on the Game of Thrones podcast Watch the Thrones at Grantland, will host the show.

"Each week, After the Thrones will recap the latest episode, explaining the who, what, when and where, exploring the complicated politics and history of Thrones, and offering absurd and not-so-absurd theories about future episodes," HBO said in a news release.

Simmons is an executive producer for After the Thrones.

Netflix expected to increase subscription prices starting next month and mainly targets those "grandfathered" into lower rates.

New rate is expected to be $10 per month for all users.

Quote:

Millions of Netflix users will soon need to pay more to stream their favorite TV shows and movies. Starting in May, Netflix will raise the price of its standard, two-stream plan to $10/month for subscribers who were previously "grandfathered" in to a lower rate.

According to Business Insider, UBS analysts claim the change will impact 37 percent of US grandfathered subscribers, which comes out to around 17 million people. These people are currently paying $8/month and got to keep that rate when the price went up to $9/month and then again to $10/month.

This change is expected to catch millions by surprise. A JPMorgan survey cited by Business Insider says 80 percent of the 17 million subscribers affected by the update are not aware of the forthcoming change.

The price hike will go into effect for the grandfathered subscribers on May 10. You can visit your Netflix account page on Netflix.com to see if you are impacted.

... was the chick originally going to be a robot too and they cut it out? Because her demeanor is robotic, she's cold, she's calculated, she doesn't blink in the film.
I feel like they cut this out of the film, or changed it near the end because we both immediately felt the same way.

My random thought of the day, ta ta.

Bunch of gaming related film news:

* According to reports, Angry Birds film is currently at a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes while Rachet & Clank is currently among the worst ever for gaming films. A review for Ratchet and Clank implied the film is like a toilet flushing in regards to its artistic merit or worth.

Anyone else check out the Preacher pilot. Thought it was pretty good, haven't read any of the comics so I knew nothing going in and it's got me interested enough to watch more.

GD 05-25-2016 05:10 AM

I might. I was 'bout to grab the comic (compilation) at a store and decided not to since I am old as fuck now.

XL 05-25-2016 05:44 AM

I enjoyed it. Had the first GN bought as a birthday gift about 2 years ago but only just got round to reading it. I thought "how has this not been made into a movie/film" and voila...

They've deviated heavily from the source material (at least from the first book) but that doesn't bother me. Looking forward to episode 2.

True Detective done. Sad.

Tom Hiddleston & Jamie Bell's names are being tossed about as being the next James Bond since it's looking likely Daniel Craig won't be back due to his schedule.

I think Hiddleston would be great, IMO. Did an awesome job on The Night Manager.

So many good comic related shows the last few years I almost feel like I am stuck somewhere in the 90's and this is all some pot induced dream

Ubisoft currently working on a new video game based film with The Division as the game picked. Would join Far Cry and Watch Dogs as films based on games currently in production by them.
Quote:

It seems as if Ubisoft's plans run deeper than just video game aspirations, though. It wants to go cross-medium. According to an exclusive given to Variety, Ubisoft is working on a Division movie that stars Jake Gyllenhaal.

Although it has been unveiled, this project is very much in its early stages. Ubisoft is reportedly looking for a writer and has yet to shop it around to studios. All that's really known is the world it's set in, and that Gyllenhaal is involved as both a lead actor and as a producer.

According to reports, Disney is currently unhappy with the production of Star Wars: Rouge One to the point they already have a series of reshoots planned to happen next month.
Quote:

The first “Star Wars” spinoff, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” is in crisis, and the movie will have to go into expensive reshoots over the summer, sources exclusively confirmed to Page Six.

The much-anticipated “Rogue One” is due for release on Dec. 16, but we’re told bosses at Disney are not fully satisfied with the first cut from director Gareth Edwards.

One Hollywood source told us, “The execs at Disney are not happy with the movie, and ‘Rogue One’ will have to go back into four weeks of expensive reshoots in July.”

... It was announced earlier this month that Edwards would not direct “Godzilla 2” later this year, and would instead “focus on smaller films.” But the movie insider told us, “Gareth’s work on the first ‘Godzilla’ [which came out in 2014] shows he can handle a big studio blockbuster. But ‘Rogue One’ has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with ‘Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.’ So Disney has ordered reshoots.”

Edwards is well-known as a risk-taking director, but has also been reported to prefer to keep studio influence at a minimum. The source added, “Disney won’t take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn’t testing well.”

"Where's the force?!"

"This is an action movie set in Star Wars Universe"

"Booo! We want da force!"

Disney: Shit...we need to put in the Force.

Lock Jaw 06-03-2016 10:06 PM

Read another report saying that all the reports about the reshoots being because of "something bad" or to "change the tone" are false and these reshoots have been scheduled for a long time and are nothing but small things....

Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to break the all-time record for highest grossing domestic film in the US. Toppled the previous record holder, Avatar, by around $176 million.

Quote:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially ended its theatrical run. The movie has now finished playing theaters, and is secure in its place as the most successful film ever released in North America.

As Collider reports, the film leaves cinemas with a box office total of $936.6 million, way ahead of its nearest rival, 2009's Avatar. The James Cameron sci-fi epic took $760.5 million.
In terms of all-time worldwide record, it managed to be 3rd and missed out toppling Titantic for the #2 spot by around $118 million.

Quote:

JJ Abrams' Star Wars film wasn't able to beat Titanic's still-amazing take of $2.186 billion, while Avatar's $2.788 billion total puts it way out in front as the all-time number one. The Force Awakens earned $2.068 billion worldwide.

Critics and box office wise, Warcraft film ended up being a huge dud in the US but because of China, its on track to become the highest ever grossing video game film.

Quote:

In the US, the Warcraft film can pretty much only been seen as a bomb -- at least when it comes to its opening weekend. It's expected to make $24.3 million at the box office this weekend (against a budget of $160 million, not including marketing), putting it soundly behind The Conjuring 2 at the #2 spot. But China is single-handedly saving the film.

As one of the most successful openings ever in that region it grossed $144.5 million, and broke multiple records in the process. Along with other countries worldwide, that places the Warcraft film at roughly $301 million during its opening week sprawl. That puts it well within reach of Prince of Persia, which is the highest grossing video game film ever at $336m worldwide.

They were like 2 or 3, maybe ever 4, years late on the Warcraft movie for America.

Looks silly as fuck.

I will still watch it, though. Once I can get a torrent. Not spending money on this and not because "fuck warcraft" but because I'm picky,

You know how BvS has cool scenes but a wacky stiry? Warcraft has a cool story with wacky scenes. Just... hilarious takes.

New Voltron cartoon they got on Netflix is awesome. Made some changes I love & hate. But it's top notch. Team who handled Avatar & Korra is in charge of this.

Warcraft film recently passed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time as #1 box office gaming film of all-time.

Only reason is due to International and China since US-wise, its in the 17th all-time range. Also same reason why Angry Birds came close to toppling Prince of Persia film before Warcraft did.

Quote:

With the worldwide box office topping $370 million, Duncan Jones’ Warcraft has stolen the title of top-grossing video game movie from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ...

According to the figures at Box Office Mojo (via Gamespot), Warcraft currently sits at number 17 on the list of top-grossing domestic video game movies, far below number one Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’s $131 million or the more recent Angry Birds Movie, which has earned $103 million domestically.

Domestic, schlomestic. The real money is worldwide, and while the Angry Birds Movie $327 million global take came close to toppling Prince of Persia’s $336, Warcraft blew past it in less than a month.
