ROH thriving
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">In January 2018, ROH drew one of, if not their largest crowd in Nashville, easily exceeding 1,000. 17 months later, this is what’s left. Setup is for no more than 400 people and GA are being upgraded to reserved seating. <a href="https://t.co/3uurIlEVnk">pic.twitter.com/3uurIlEVnk</a></p>— Ben Turpen (@BenTurpen) <a href="https://twitter.com/BenTurpen/status/1165749978347855872?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 25, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Wonder what is ROH's breaking point with Delirious and Bully Ray running Creative. They need major changes done behind the scenes to fix things but the company doesn't seem to care.
Even before the Elite left, there were growing issues and cracks showing with Delirious' management of Creative. Bringing in Bully Ray for a lead role in Creative just made things worse in the end. |
That tweet says 6:17. I don't think the show started until 8:00 p.m. I don't imagine most arenas fill up two hours before show time...
|
It filled in a lot better during the show itself based on some gifs and photos but I'd guess somewhere around 300 for the crowd size tonight.
|
Everyone works the ROH style now, so what’s the point of it?

They have Cobb, RUSH, and Scurll that can easily be in that role if they had bothered to seriously invest in them. Instead they don't because morons run the book and decided to put all their eggs in Matt Taven being that guy.
Even newer stuff like their women's division has suffered from how badly its been mismanaged and half-assed right from the start. Not even WWE was as inept as ROH was when it came to holding a women's tournament. |
I'll agree with you on RUSH, but Cobb and Scurll wouldn't get anymore eyeballs on their product than they already have. They are not big time players.
I've never seen a worse Kazuchika Okada match than the one he had with Marty Scurll at All In. Marty just isn't a main eventer. He's a good junior heavyweight/tag team hand. But he isn't Will Ospreay or Zack Sabre Jr. Jeff Cobb can be a good attraction style wrestler similar to Big Show, Kane, and Undertaker types. He's a different style match than you normally get in ROH. He's not year long world champion material. Maybe a short run here or there to keep him believably in the mix but other than that he isn't a top hand. Right now the only guys that can really be top guys in ROH are Jay Lethal, RUSH, and PCO. Maybe if they invested in him and protected his weaknesses you could add Bandido to that list but he still has a ways to go. |

This is sad. I've not had access to ROH TV (on TV, not the web) since the HDnet days. I just got access to it and have it on my DVR to record new episodes because the one I caught last week was really fantastic. Everything about it was really top notch. I don't think there is a savior for ROH at this point. The loss of The Elite is why this is happening. |
Anyone watch enough Japan to know if Cody Hall is worth going to WWE?
|
The problem with Delirious is that he is one of the boys first and booker second. He often lets whoever the top guy is do whatever they want, good ideas be damned.

He's also a giant pain in the ass from what I've heard.
Lol Cody Rhodes cutting him down on Twitter was just fucking savage. |

RE: ROH
On top of the fact that they put most of their eggs in the The Elite basket and then everyone but Marty left, they just have a major issue with talent. They hadn't been a destination company for hot young talent for years, and by the last couple years there's nothing they offer that another company doesn't do better. For a while one of the things propping them up was semi-regular appearances from top-tier NJPW talent, so you could go to their TV tapings and have good odds of seeing multiple matches featuring Okada, Tanahashi, and Naito, but now NJPW just runs their own shows in the US. They had a wave of pretty interesting signings at the end of last year but I don't get the impression that any of them except for Brody King and PCO have really been major focuses. But honestly I think the biggest killer was that Madison Square Garden show. That was their chance to reignite fan interest and they failed at nearly every turn, and failed in a way that I think basically shut the door on what their reputation used to be and instead screamed of the type of desperation that people used to drag TNA for all the time. "You know what NJPW fans are going to love? 30 minutes of Bully Ray! Hey, Tenille Dashwood's on the way out, but guess who's replacing her? 2008's hottest women's heel act still doing that act to diminishing returns, that's who! Enjoy that tag match? Cool, prepare to completely forget about how good that match was because here's a worked shoot angle with fucking Enzo and Cass for some reason! And stay tuned for our main event featuring a lifer whose act has gotten stale, a guy who we can't give the belt to because he's counting the days until he can bail and join his friends in AEW, and Matt Taven of all people!" The story about Bully Ray pulling that fan aside during a Pacific Northwest tour and chiding him for heckling Velvet Sky didn't help but pretty much every wrestling company has embarrassing stories like that. They just... don't have anything beyond access to NJPW and CMLL guys. There's no buzz about anything going on there. |
ROH seems like dead meat, but if I had to suggest someone for champion, it would probably be PCO. People seem to enjoy his comeback story. Work out who you are going to bank around next — maybe someone on loan from New Japan — then have them kill PCO and run with the belt while you build a babyface. I dunno.
|
They have Dalton Castle and have yet to capitalize off it. Feel like Billy Corgan or Anthem should buy them up while business is bad for them. Eventually they'll figure it out though.

Sean Ross Sapp reported it too and he's pretty reliable so idk.

True or not, makes zero sense to bring those two back considering the stories of how much they were despised backstage.
Then again WWE has made some really boneheaded decisions within the past 1-2 years so I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do it at some point. |
From what I've read, Cass has made a lot of progress in recent times. Not against the WWE giving them a second chance.
