I have hated wrestling games for the past 20 years or so. Mainly because the controls became too needlessly complicated, especially for a non-video game nerd. I think rejecting that style is the main selling point behind the “No Mercy” comparison so I kinda wanna at least give it a shot.

Dont misunderstand me this games profits are questionable at best. Namely because we dont know how much money was put into it. We cant even remotely assess what it needs to move. AEW is nowhere near where it needs to be to finance something like this let alone profit from it. Green lighting it was bold to say the least and arrogant to say more.

None of the effects that this game is being put together by the most talented team that exists. No one thinks modern wwe games are good. The guys making this are behind that last time people thought it was. Knock the concept not the product.

The games sales will come down to price. At $30 if there's good word of mouth this could move 3 million. Not from AEW fans either. From the retro wrestling game fandom. Being an AEW isnt a selling point. I dont watch the product and I'll pick this up

This is really out of touch with the retro gaming market. 8/16/32/and 64 bit games didnt go out of style the industry left them behind. AAA developers are remaking these games from this era and reselling them and maintaining the aesthetic. There's a very hungry market for this and the games in this style are selling more now than they did on release. The business side of it is working out very well. If AEW fails it will be an anomaly. The market is very healthy for this.

Speking of retro style wrestling games Wrestle Quest is an upcoming 16 bit style turn based rpg that looks PRETTY RAD. Very excited for it.

oh and Retro Mania Wrestling was a super wrestle mania inspired indy ttile from last year that was pretty cool (on sale now down from $30 @$20.) For $20 its a good pick up.

This isn’t a 64-bit game dude. This isn’t a re-release of a classic. I have no doubt this game will drive people to play No Mercy and Revenge again. They’re going to be better games.

I doubt it will even play like No Mercy. I think the intent is there, but it’s going to feel like an inauthentic facsimile and it’ll have a mountain of problems that No Mercy didn’t have in the context of its time and for what it was.

Some of it does have to do with giving Kenny Omega, a dude with no experience developing, a position of power. The developers that haven’t been run off have basically apologized in advance for the game’s limits and missing functions. “Severely over budget” was a phrase used. That’s not just expensive, that’s over budget.

Something about that just seems lazy. I get they’re throwing the towel in, but still.

Just heard/read about The Elite doing a number of things to "mock" CM Punk during one of their matches after they came back.... how unprofessional do you gotta be? Just go out there and do your jobs, damn.....

Bought the WWE2K22 game for $20 - figured if it is shit $20 isn't too bad.


It's a HUGE improvement from years past, with some lingering bugs around movement//positioning.


Noticed they also adjusted their controls.

More or less how it was in the N64 days. AEW's game having a similar control scheme will be great. Familiarity, ease of use and simplifying the controls are good choices.


Game is smoother than ever, and I have (so far) found myself actually having to play well against the AI to win matches. Feels more like a "real back and forth" match.
