I'd figure Rhode Island would say away from anything video games after the Curt Schilling/38 Studios debacle.

Emperor Smeat 02-26-2018 07:00 PM

Schilling (and a few others) being a dumbass with this debacle ended up killing a really good idea the state had to lure more game developers to the state. They wanted to become a new hub for game developers and tech companies within a few years.

On paper, the idea was to give Schilling whatever he wanted to help make the game become as successful as possible so they can use it as a launching pad to lure more game developers to the state. Think this game alone ate around 60-75% of the state budget for tech projects.

Instead Schilling's studio fibbed on how much money was actually needed and everyone else involved had no backup plan in case things didn't go smoothly with the studio itself or game sales. Not only did Schilling screw the state's plans, he also screwed a lot of other companies who couldn't apply for tech grants because of how much his project ate into the budget.

Forgot how the settlement went down but think I technically own a share of the game's IP via being a resident of the state and the state owning the IP now.

"This follows a previous announcement by Trump about wanting a ratings system for video games."

....um

#BROKEN Hasney 03-02-2018 06:37 AM

Y'know, I was about to give Trump the benefit of the doubt and look up what he actually said, because if he suggested that there should be an independent ratings body instead of one run by the video game publishers, or maybe that there should be a rating system involving ages like we have in Europe that has laws around banning children from buying the games. I may not agree, but at least he wouldn't be spouting shit about something that already exists.

But no, he just said rating system. And not just for games, he wants a rating system for movies too. HOW NOVEL

Quote:

We have to look at the Internet, because a lot of bad things are happening to young kids and young minds, and their minds are being formed. And we have to do something about maybe what they’re seeing and how they’re seeing it,
I mean, they might stumble on your Twitter account for one thing.

Quote:

And also video games. I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence in video games is really shaping young people’s thoughts. And then you go the further step and that’s the movies. You see these movies, they’re so violent and yet a kid is able to see a movie if sex isn’t involved, but killing is involved. Maybe they have to put a rating system for that.
What he really means is more restricted ratings around violence, of course, but he's not the greatest speaker.

Done with Microsoft controllers. As a rule, I always get first party accessories, because as long as I've played games they've always been the sturdiest.

Think I only had to replace one 360 controller in the entire lifecycle of that console. I've had to replace the xbox one controller 3 times now. I'm not rough on them, I don't throw them around, but less than a year after buying them, the LB/RB button sticks. One time it just fell the fuck off.

Gonna take my chances with third party. Since they're cheap I won't feel bad if they break down. But the Microsoft ones too expensive for me to take any chances on them anymore.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-20-2018 04:44 AM

The Sonic Racing news is so dumb. There's no & Sega, so all the interesting characters and stages are removed.

Kalyx triaD 03-20-2018 08:21 AM

What

#BROKEN Hasney 03-20-2018 08:34 AM

It's Sonic only, so driving around as the Dreamcast controller in a Burning Rangers stage is not going to happen again.

Which is a shame, it was fun.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-20-2018 08:35 AM

Sega in general are making dumber decisions that usual. Delaying Yakuza 6 for no good reason until 3 days before God of War and Valkirya Chronicles 4 is releasing in-between Call of Duty and Red Dead 2. Good luck with that.

Kalyx triaD 03-20-2018 10:35 AM

It's not Sonic All Stars? Thought the logo looked similar.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-20-2018 11:35 AM

It did, but a few things happened in the last few months.

Sumo had a presentation leaked saying they're working on a kart game
Sumo denied they were working on an All Stars sequel when asked about it
Sega when they aired that Sonic Racing teaser said it isn't a sequel to anything

The logo looks similar because it just has that sonic circle at the top. The realistic car in the teaser makes me think it will be similar to Blur.

Kalyx triaD 03-20-2018 01:02 PM

Aw fuck. Transformed was a legit kart racer with amazing tracks.

Found this while exploring in far cry 5

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2018 03:19 AM

Fuck that

Fignuts 04-04-2018 07:52 AM

No Man's Sky is coming to xbox this summer. They are also launching their next big update for the game, which will be free as always. Last major updates added lots of cool stuff.

Most people guessing the big gimmick for the next update will be true multiplayer.

Divisive game. Even with everything they've added since release, it's not for everybody. Still very grindy, and involves a lot of "making your own fun", so if you like linear experiences with clearly set goals, it still doesn't really have that.

I really liked it though. I love exploring, and playing while listening to a new album or podcast. Good "chill" game.

Fignuts 04-04-2018 07:54 AM

After the ups and downs overwatch constantly puts me through, I could use a little No Man's Sky, tbh.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2018 06:41 PM

Linear, Open-World Sandbox, and... "Make Your Own Fun" are three different categories for me. There's still objectives in many open-world games compared to NMS and SoT.

Fignuts 04-04-2018 07:24 PM

Oh for sure. I'm not comparing it to traditional open world games like GTA or Fallout.

More in common with Minecraft than anything.
