I remember as a youth getting to somehow see a "sneak peek" screening of Blank Check before it came out in theaters.....
|
I vividly remember the trailer for it. I never did get to see that film but it always looked like a great flick to me as a kid.
|
I remember feeling very special and hyped up to somehow be in that special screening..... and then I also remember thinking the movie was just "eh, I was entertained I guess"
|
Dirty Harry-8/10
A classic. Clint Eastwood as a bad ass cop who locks wits with a local domestic terrorist sniping people from buildings. Minority Report-8/10 Pretty interesting premise. Read that the ending wasn't well received. I kinda get it. But it's a fun movie with a neat twist about halfway during the movie. |
The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 - 9/10
|
Vanilla Sky - 6/10
|
Pineapple Express.
Hilarious and not really any complaints besides lying bitch being in it. |
We even like the same movies

Angel Has Fallen 7/10
|
I have to write a short "Fighting With My Family" review tomorrow.
Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. |
The Departed.
Was my 3 time seeing it and still enjoyed it as much as the other times. Spider Man: Far From Home. Didn't like it as much as other Marvel movies but still good. 50/50. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. |

Fighting With My Family - 3/4 A funny, heartwarming story about WWE's Paige and her oddball family. I particularly enjoyed Florence Pugh's performance and the attention paid to the emotional aspects and toll that wrestling takes on its performers. I was excited to watch a film that kept the laugh ratio respectable and yet kept the emotional tempo high enough to swing back into drama expertly. Great fun, would watch again quite happily. I thought I might give it a proper review but I would have to re-watch and take notes and I can't be arsed. |
Richard Jewell (2019) - 9/10
Quote:
Lead actor is freaking incredible... Highly recommended... |
Other movies I watched recently...
The King of Comedy (1982) - 8/10 - Very good. Didn't think I would like this that much for some reason but it was great. Sandra Bernhard's acting sucks in this though... kept "taking me out of the movie." Oldboy (2003) - 8/10 - Never watched this and finally did. It was good. Lots of cool parts... Feel like I would have liked it much more in 2003 though. "Fight Club-esque" in that way. 638 Ways to Kill Castro (2006) - 7/10 - Documentary about some of the insane and evil ways that the US tried to kill Fidel Castro. Interesting... "TV documentary" quality though tbh. Snowpiercer (2013) - 6/10 - From Bong Joon Ho, the director of Parasite. Was fine but was like way too overt in its "class war" theme. No subtlety... Also was mostly just like an action movie. Cool concept though... The Thing (1982) - 6/10 - Was fine... Seems like it doesn't really hold up. Felt bored... Expectations were too high I think. Alps (2011) - 5/10 - Interesting concept... Love the director... Movie didn't really go anywhere... Hail, Caesar! (2016) - 5/10 - Coen brothers movie... Not that great overall... Disappointing I Love You, Daddy (2017) - 3/10 - That Louis CK movie that he made before he got "canceled." Not good... Not good at all... Felt kinda embarrassing... Not even any laughs at all... |
Love & Other Drugs.
Pretty good romance comedy. |
Around the World in 80 Days (2004) - 4/10
Just finished reading the book today (in Spanish), and decided to watch this movie on Disney+ It was...... ummm.... a "liberal" adaptation of the novel, inserting Jackie Chan and Kung-Fu into the mix. It was not too good. |
Onward - 6/10
It's basically Frozen but with Chris Pratt and the kid from Spiderman. I enjoyed it (despite my score) but it doesn't feel like anything I hadn't seen before. |
Holes.
Still one of my favorites from childhood. |
Four Lions 6.5/10
It marries comedy and the subject of terrorism fairly well, but it didn't really keep my attention. |
That's a full marks film if ever there was one
|
Hector and the Search for Happiness - 7.5/10
|
Black Rain 6.7/10
An entertaining, if shallow and cliched, thriller starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia who play NYC cops that escort a Yakuza member back to Japan, whom promptly escapes, and they have to hunt him down. |
The Martian 10/10
No idea why I didn't watch it sooner. I compare it to why I didn't watch Batman Begins for years but then was blown away |
It is quality.
Watch "Moon" if you haven't yet. |
Candyman 7/10
I've seen the second film a number of times, but never the original (that I can remember). It was not the splatterfest that I was expecting; more atmospheric, which I liked. |
Limitless-7/10
Not what I thought it was gonna be. More addiction themes than I expected. It was a little all over the place. Like it didn't know if it wanted to be a gangster movie, a political movie etc. But Bradley copper is really good in it and he and De Niro workreally well together. |
Green Room - 8/10
Imogen Poots <3 |
Dave, you know Imogen's love is not for you; it's all for me.
|
lol Poots
|
Coco - 9.5/10
Loved it |
That movie made grown ass men cry in the cinema.
|
Indeed it did. I was one of them.
|
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade-8/10
Such a fun movie with a ton of impressive for the time set pieces that still hold up after all these years. Connery is so funny and loveable and he and Ford have undeniable chemistry. The movie works at its best and most entertaining when they're sharing the screen. |
Mud.
8/10 |
21 Bridges 6.7/10
|
Cars 3 - 7/10
Good to see that they fixed the mistake of the last one and had Mater barely be in this one. That being said, it was alright, not great. Definitely made to sell more toys/different paint jobs of cars. |
Bad Boys For Life
Liked it better than than the 2nd one but not as much as the 1st. Like a Boss 6/10 Funny but not super funny. |
Romancing the Stone 7/10
I haven't seen this film in at least 20 years. An Indian Jones-lite film, but enjoyable with a dollop of 80s cheddar and silliness. I will watch the sequel, which again I haven't seen since probably the late 90s, tomorrow. |
Jewel of the Nile 5/10
A case of diminishing returns. |
Monty Python Holy Grail
Funny |
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 6.5/10
|
Watching "The Silence" on Netflix. I'm liking it so far.
|
The Incredibles 2 - 8/10
Enjoyed it, even if it followed a very similar plot/villain to the first movie. |
The Silence - 8/10
Way better than Bird Box I felt it could have been longer tbh |
Extraction.
Hemsworth is so damn hot! Movie was pretty good also fuck the whiny critics complaining about too much violence. |
I read that as "whitey critics"
lol |
A Star is Born (Latest One) - 8/10
Enjoyed it |
I watched that a couple of weeks ago with the wife. I’d go 8/10 too. Not seen the previous ones to compare.
|
Yesterday 8.5/10
|
Knives Out 9/10
|
Rocketman 9/10
|
Bohemian Rhapsody 8/10
|
Aladdin (2019) 10/10 (keeps the Little One entranced)
|
Mary Poppins Returns 7/10 (not really for me)
|
Bad Times at the El Royale 9/10 (it was a while back I watched this but I remember enjoying it)
|
Extraction-7/10
Chris Hemsworth plays an ex military soldier now working as a for hire mercenary type who gets contracted to retrieve the child of the biggest drug lord in India kidnapped by a rival drug lord in Bangladesh. The story is flimsy and at best basic. But Hemsworth carries it, and the movie itself is excessively and gloriously violent, with an excellent 12 minute one shot fight/chase scene. |
Joker 8/10
Finally got round to watching it. Joaquin Phoenix went beast-mode in this film. We didn't need another scene of Bruce Wayne's parents being killed, though. I don't know why the SJW knobs were getting triggered by this film; its doesn't appear to be about Incels or "toxic masculinity" (a bullshit term if ever there was one), at least not to me. |
Because they think it promotes and paints Arthur as a sympathetic hero, which is a give I didn't get when I watched it.
|
Toy Story 4 - 7.5/10
Enjoyable, but feels like it "didn't need to get made". Think it is also my least fav of the Toy Story movies. I do like the antagonist's storyline a lot. |
Quote:
It is a sympathetic take until you recognise the duality of Arthur's "reality". I reckon anyone who got offended by that completely missed the importance of his delusion. |
100%. Once you realize he's not a trustworthy narrator of his own story and sympathy instantly washes away and you see him for the deranged individual he is.
|
Need to watch it again. Haven't seen it since its theatrical release. Namely because it was a brutal and exhausting film to get thru. But in the best ways.
|
I haven't seen it again yet either, as you said it was so impactful that I have it firmly pressed into my mind.
That's the best Joker now. |
I can't compare it definitively say who was better. I love them both.
|
The Conversation-6/10
Gene Hackman lead feature about a man running a private surveillance company who's hired to spy on the wife of a top executive. Gets a little too involved in the recordings in trying to crack what the cheating couple is insinuating when they say "he'd kill us if he had the chance". The film breaks away from this plot to highlight Hackman as a paranoid, socially inept loner, which isn't half as interesting as that main plot. Couldn't really get into. Found it a little boring and I think the focus on the character as opposed to the story is why. It's not even a 2 hour film, and cutting 29 minutes or so of the character driven stuff prob would've made it better for me personally. |
Tigers Are Not Afraid - 9/10
Pans Labyrinth meets City of God |
Watching "Child's Play" reboot.
It works. |
I don't remember the original being funny.
This one is... zany |
Man alive, this kid thinks the garbage chute is a portal to another dimension.
Boy ain't bright. |
Does the reboot have Brad Dourif voicing the character?
If not, I cannot get on board. |
It has Mark Hamill voicing Chucky so it's a pretty solid replacement.
Brad Dourif has done like 8 shitty Chucky films already. |
@Seanny One Ball
Do you want to sing the Buddy song? |

Swingers.
8/10 |
Contratiempo ("The Invisible Guest" in English) - 8.5/10
Thought that it started out kind of "generic" plotline, but then it got better. |
La Dictadura Perfecta (The Perfect Dictator)-8/10
A political satire, it focuses on a corrupt news station empire that is hired by a governor to clean up his image after video released outs his corruption. The station producer and star on scene reporter take advantage of a kidnapping to deter attention while working double time to silence an honest politician. I liked it a lot even tho it is extremely cynical and the ending is a bummer. Was well done and is apparently a play on real life occurrences in Mexico. |
The Lighthouse - 7/10
|
If it was rubbish would you have called it The Shitehouse?
|
21 Bridges - 7.5/10 - Pretty good for what I thought was going to be a paint-by-numbers action movie.... Had more thriller elements to it, which I did enjoy....
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial - 5/10 - Never watched it as a kid, finally watched it as a 30-year old, clearly doesn't hold up in 2020, but I don't think it would have been something I enjoyed as a child....Seemed very "meh" |
Rise of Skywalker
Not-as-bad-as-I-expected/10 |
Rhythm Section.
Decent could of been better though. 6/10 Good Boys. Made me laugh enough to watch again. 7/10 |
IT Chapter Two 7/10
The first film is stronger, but I still enjoyed it. Its nearly 3 hours long, but doesn't seem to drag, which to me is usually a good indicator. |
Man, it sure as hell dragged when I watched it.
|
I like both movies but the first one was way better and the second seemed like it dragged a lot more between the exciting scenes.
Just saw Prison Break: The Final Break movie. It was ok at best. Least favorite part of the series by a mile though. The format and stories they tell with that show demand way more than a couple hours to make them work. It stripped out so much of what made the prior seasons of the show so great and wittled it down to the bare minimum. No time to develop the new characters in any way or flesh out the plan into the levels of detail I was used to. Just seems so whack after watching all these super in depth plans come together over the course of a season with all the twists and turns and double crosses only for them to easily spring someone from jail in a couple hours with hardly any effort at all. |
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Very nostalgic for me. |
1BR - 8/10
One of the better horror films I've seen in a while. Realistic and disturbing. |
El Hoyo-9/10
The Platform on Netflix, a film about a Jesus allegory man who enters a prison like structure where a platform of food descends down a hole, stopping for 2 cell mates to eat as much as they can before it moves down to the next floor. I enjoyed it but it's hard to write a review. Lots of themes to unpack, the biggest one being how one man can attempt and sacrifice to start a social movement of unity. |
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - 8/10
|
The Last Laugh.
Thought it would be boring but was watchable. Django Unchained. Leo was great but nearly 3hrs wasn't necessary. American Ultra. Pretty entertaining. To The Bone. Undecided on my opinion on it. |
Police Academy 6/10
I've seen all the bad sequels at some point, but never the original film. I'm not quite sure how this film managed to spawn an entire series. Kim Cattrall was ridiculously cute in the 80s, though. |
Okja - 7/10
Dunno. It just seemed like a long "eating meat is bad" movie |
That movie was dope.
|
I could go for some elephant trunk calamari
|
Todos Los Saben-8/10
Everybody Knows on Netflix. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz star. A small scale crime thriller where a kidnapping takes place in the middle of a wedding reception in a small village in Spain. Some family secrets and true feelings spill, a family's loyalty to itself is challenged, and a sense of revenge is had. |
Scoob-5/10
Meh. Mediocre animation, mediocre writing, and a mediocre story starring a smorgasbord of Hannah-Barbera characters to flank and fill passable but forgettable Scooby Doo movie that might get a few chuckles out of you. |
Wild - 7.5/10
|
Contact - 7/10
|
Prisoners - 9/10
|
Halloween 2018.
8/10 Isn't it Romantic 7/10 Sonic Pretty enjoyable wasn't expecting much |
