In fact, it is specifically the treatment of Shinsuke Nakamura more than anyone else that is the biggest barometer of my judgment. The man should have been WWE Champion at least once at this point, especially when his stock was up. He already paid his dues in his career, and WWE has this "well, you need to start over with us" mentality for most people. At this point, they've just established to the fans that he isn't as good as even the hype they themselves gave him. He is in a random midcard tag team. This after being an OVER AS FUCK babyface and the surprisingly glorious "no shpeak Engrish" heel turn that the company apparently didn't know what to do with. Why multiply that by, say, a whole entire other roster?

The biggest hurdle I can see, if this were ever any kind of possible to maintain a sustained relationship like New Japan currently has with Ring of Honor, is that WWE would be pretty adverse to putting any of the New Japan talent over in any type of matchups people would want to see. What I mean is, there is no way we'd get a Cena vs Okada type of match. We wouldn't get GoD vs Usos. It would be a series of squash matches of lesser card members eating pins for the stars.

Also, Liger already had a WWE match with Tyler Breeze. You wouldn't remember it now, because WWE has done a fantastic job of burying Breeze over the years since then. It wasn't as great as Zayn vs Nakamura, but obviously Liger is legendary, and he gets called in to establish that he's such a big deal you need to bring in Liger... and you end up doing nothing with that? The hell, WWE?!

Well, in their defense (which I wouldn’t normally do), Gallows & Anderson suck, Finn Balor is a charisma vacuum and Nakamura was never going to get that sort of push in the last year of his contract. It’s weird they haven’t been doing more with him lately, and my latest theory is that I think they know he’s leaving. Otherwise, you’d think they’d dangle more of a carrot in front of him. I suspect he is going back to New Japan. Well, I guess AEW is possible, since the more I think about it, the more I realize has hasn’t been used for anything other than putting people over outside that first win he and Rusev got as a tag team.

Mr. Nerfect 04-01-2019 04:08 AM

Holy shit at WWE calling it a “Winner Takes All” match where the winner doesn’t take all. This is so WWE. God, I hope they go through with that.

Droford 04-01-2019 04:18 AM

winner takes something match, a new exciting match concept I just came up with. The winner gets to take something with them after they win. Pack of gum? Bottle of Water? Table from under the ring for their own apartment? Camera man's expensive camera to film their family reunion next month instead of hiring a professional to do it? Could be anything! See who wins and feel the anticipation of what they might choose to take!

Not to change the topic but remember when Dolph randomly ended Drews undefeated streak? Only to disappear 2 weeks later.

I wonder if Stephanie's big announcement on RAW will be that she is adding herself to the Women's Main-Event as the Referee

I could see that.

I could also see DBry retain via shenanigans because WWE will decide there is 'heat' in Kofi chasing for the belt.

And I could see Brock retain and then lose the belt to Big Doggo in Saudi Arabia too.

And I could see Corbin defeat Angle in a squash match to give him 'heat' and set him up as a big heel for Big Doggo Dog.

slik 04-01-2019 02:23 PM

But the fans will get to go home happy when HHH overcomes Batista.

WWE Responds!:
Quote:

“John Oliver Ignores Facts

John Oliver is clearly a clever and humorous entertainer, however the subject matter covered in his WWE segment is no laughing matter. Prior to airing, WWE responded to his producers refuting every point in his one-sided presentation. John Oliver simply ignored the facts.

The health and wellness of our performers is the single most important aspect of our business, and we have a comprehensive, longstanding Talent Wellness program.

We invite John Oliver to attend WrestleMania this Sunday to learn more about our company.”

WWE don’t need it, but with the recent strategy to boost ratings being “let’s call up the top four from NXT,” maybe there’s some appeal in working with #3 to bring in some fresh faces they have to protect (and god knows they need some protected stars). There are some WWE talent who could get a lot out of some New Japan appearances too (Cesaro and Harper come to mind). They could also do Jushin Liger vs. Rey Mysterio at some point.

No, no, no. Horrible idea all round. New Japan don't need it either and it would most likely damage their business and their expansion. The UK promotions who partnered with WWE, for example, have cooled off significantly since WWE have cherry picked all their top stars and are keeping them to themselves. What are the likes of British Strong Style even doing right now for example? Their buzz has completely fizzled out.

With HHH already having designs for NXT Japan you have to believe any partner promotion would just become a feeder, because that's what's happening in Europe. New Japan is way too big to sink to that level.

Anyone in WWE who would "get a lot out of New Japan" would be better off leaving WWE entirely because they are most likely spinning their wheels in the midcard.

Liger is also retiring in January and was actually booked to wrestle Rey last year before he got injured and then WWE snatched him away before they could reschedule.
