Now playing: Black Ops 2 on XBOX.

Emperor Smeat 12-10-2012 09:16 PM

Games beaten in 2012:
Sonic 2 (XBLA version)
Call of Duty Black Ops
Portal (Xbox 360 Orange Box version)
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
WCW/NWO Revenge
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Saints Row 2
Mario Party 9
Metal Slug 7
Gears of War 3

Multiplayer is better than GoW 2 but the story is still meh worthy mostly because it still tries too hard at times to be serious while being all over the place or silly at other times. Besides Dom, everyone else is too goofy or "bro"-type to pull off a serious moment.

Currently playing:
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Portal 2

Baring a random new purchase those 2 should be the final games left to beat for the year or at least Kirby will be.

You should probably stop playing Black Ops every day and work on some of that shit.

Largely still Borderlands 2 thanks to the DLC. Also Dishonored, DOA 5, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, WWE ’13 and Hitman: Absolution. Gonna wait a while on B.O. II and probably pass on Halo 4. Never been a big Halo fan.

Roxer, you should give Street Fighter X Tekken another chance. The online play is way better now. No more lag or annoying sound issues.

Akuma still sucks, I guess, but there are lots of other great characters.

Best Buy sent me a $10 off my order christmas coupon that I had to use before christmas. So I went and picked up Kid Icarus for the 3DS.

Far Cry.

I just downloaded it and I have no idea what all the fuss was about. It's not because the graphics are outdated now, because I kinda stopped playing games when games looked worse. It's just a dumb FPP, nothing special.

Still playing Borderlands 2. Have a 50 Siren and my Zerker will be 50 by the end of the night!

WWE 13 is additive as hell too. I am going to pick up Skyrim again here soon for the Dragonborn DLC. It is out, just not at the top of the priority list right now. Dragon mounts will be EPIC! Those are the main 3 I rotate.

I really liked the downloadable Motorstorm game because I thought it was the best looking 3D game available. This one looks pretty good too but it is boring as shit. There was also this 800 mb thing to download which took FOREVER. I only did the first like 7 races which I don't even think is a chapter before I stopped playing. Beat sgand's times though.

You mean watch the experience xD

More watching than action in that first one. Doesn't take away from the greatness of it though.

Now a game you watch and not play? Xenosaga, holy shit.....:shifty:

Tom Guycott 01-04-2013 12:35 AM

During the XBLA New Years countdown, amongst all the other things I downloaded, I finally picked up "Dust: An Elysian Tale", or as I see it: "Castlevania: Sym-Furrie of the Night". Obviously MetroidVania. Not as expansive as something like Shadow Complex, but still a damn good game from top to bottom. Fairly simple to 100% achievements without some dumb-ass ones relying on luck or multiplayer functions to get. Lots of self-aware humor and cameos. I even liked the "love letter" to Simon's Quest thrown in.

Story was kinda cliche, but that's okay. Everything doesn't have to have a friggin Shyamalanian twist ending or a branching path of what is ultimately a black and white path of morality. It starts, it's fun, it ends.

Guess I'd better actually put time into Hitman: Absolution now.

The only flaw I'm having with MGS is that I can't see the codec frequency on my version (*ARGH, matey*) so finding Meryl's was so fucking time-consuming. Really diggin' the game so far, course those cigarettes aren't doin shit for the cargo lasers.

I got tricked by GameCrazy into buying Xenosaga a few years back, couldn't stand that game. It was just boring as hell to me

Tom Guycott 01-04-2013 04:48 AM

The cigs work, but they suck-ass in range (you have to damn near trip them for the smoke to pass by, and even then it has to just so happen to pass by while you're exhaling) as well as being driven slowly insane by that annoying ass "health drain" beep while you're smoking them. You're better just finding the infrared goggles first.

"Hey, Snake, there are lazers there!"
"OKAY! I guess I'll use these cigarettes I hid in my STOMACH! AWESOME!!!"

James Diesel 01-04-2013 04:53 AM

"Are you smoking?"
"Yeah"
"They cause lung cancer and blah blah blah"
"Shut up, they taste great in the morning bitch"

1st Mass Effect on PC... My complaints: playing other characters like sentinel, vanguard, etc.. you cannot have that zoom in ability in all of your weapons.. Restarted the game as a soldier and I can zoom in with all weapons too.. The targeting system is a bit shitty awkward despite yes, I know, Mass Effect started out like this but it improved in the sequels afterwards. Still, the game's no different to the awesomeness of its brethren.

The 1st Normandy ship before being destroyed by Collectors had no capt. cabin or a locker room to custom your armor.. And for some reason, I preferred the Cerberus Normandy... But still, the original had its moments with the crew. The elevator only gets you to the engineering and shuttle bay. That's it..

LoDownM 01-04-2013 08:16 PM

It's been forever, but I think the locker in the first game was in the shuttle bay.

You’ve beaten the original Borderlands just this year? Or did you mean 2?

Also, no offense, just curious: How can you not have played Oblivion or Fallout 3? Oblivion’s been out since ’06 and Fallout 3 since ’08? Finally, just a word of advice about Oblivion: If you don't already have a bought copy, go for the GoTY edition...Knights of the Nine I found to be slightly underwhelming but solid, but Shivering Isles is a must-play DLC experience.

Emperor Smeat 01-07-2013 04:13 PM

Mario Kart 64.

Picked it up from Club Nintendo and now splitting time between that game and like 3-4 others for now.

DaveBrawl 01-07-2013 04:16 PM

Borderlands 1. I never was really interested in it, but I bought it last summer just for the coop but my brother and I never got around to playing it so I just went ahead and finished it to get it out of the way.

I bought the GOTY editions of Fallout and Oblivion. Bought them both a year or two ago but kept putting games ahead of them. Actually I preordered Fallout for the PS3 back when it came out. I even got the goofy lunchbox and bobblehead deal, but I never played more than an hour or two of it but Josh (my brother) beat it. Then when my brother moved he took the PS3 with him so I just traded Fallout in. But I had the desire to play it again so I bought it and Oblivion since everyone was raving about it as Skyrim was being hyped up. But they have both sat on my shelf pretty much unplayed for a couple of years as I put other games ahead of them in my list. I may have an hour or two into Oblivion, I'm out of the dungeon and looking for the kid I think. Fallout, I'm almost out of the Vault.

As much as I longed for Arkham City I've had it since the Christmas after it came out and I've never done anything more than d/l the Catwoman DLC. Josh beat it after tiring of waiting for me to play it.

I've had Mass Effect 1 and 2 and have never played them, and I was about to trade them in today since I never play them. I'm having second thoughts though.

I guess I just don't play that often, most of these were beaten in spurts of boredom since they were fairly short, so they just sit there collecting dust.

DaveBrawl 01-07-2013 04:18 PM

The only reason I played the 3 Gears of War was the coop with my brother.

Cool story. I hope you enjoy both Oblivion and Fallout 3, although with the Fallout 3 add-ons, I’d say start with Point Lookout first as it is by far the best of the 5. Save Mothership Zeta for last as it is extremely underwhelming, as is Operation: Anchorage. The Pitt is pretty awesome, except for the part where you have to
SPOILER: show
Collect 10 steel ingots to advance the story
, and Broken Steel while it raises your level cap a bit is pretty “MEH”.

Fun gameplay, short enough to not make it repetitive. That is if you kept upgrading your moves to make new ones/combos.

6/10.

Save yourself time with AC Revelations. The entire series is amazing..... except for that one. Huge fan of the series, and I ignored the same advice from the dude @ gamestop. 2 days later I returned it. I didnt even bother to finish the story either, it was that bad for me :(

HAvent had a go at AC III yet, but I hear great things.

LoDownM 01-10-2013 08:06 PM

drave83 is right. Skip Revelations unless you really want to know the end of Ezio and Altiar stories.

DaveBrawl 01-10-2013 09:33 PM

I'm not even sure why I bought it to be honest, because I didn't really like AC 2 and I hated Brotherhood. Like you're saying I guess I just wanted to see how the stories ended.

I'm hoping that the big reason I disliked Brotherhood and even 2 was because I played the first 3 back to back with nothing to break up the monotony and ended up getting all of the achievements in 1 & 2.

Extreme Angle 01-11-2013 10:46 AM

Revelations is my favourite... Just sayin.

DaveBrawl 01-11-2013 11:14 AM

That was kind of what I was hoping for. 1 was my favorite so far, but I see a lot of people dog AC1 in comparison to the others and they also dog on Revelations so I'm hoping that means good things for me. I know it doesn't work that way and it'll end up being countless timed, escort, follow, and tower defense missions instead, but there's still hope.

Extreme Angle 01-11-2013 11:46 AM

Yeah Altair is incredible

DaveBrawl 01-11-2013 11:53 AM

Definitely.

whiteyford 01-11-2013 11:59 AM

Playing 3 now, camera angles can go fuck themselves. Also seems glitchy as fuck at times, kinda mixed on if I like/hate with a fiery passion the new controls too. Still hasn't stopped me whoring through it though.

You also can't kill baby animals :'(

LoDownM 01-11-2013 12:07 PM

Revelations isn't a terrible AC game, it was just boring for me. In Brotherhood I knew why I was running around Rome, in Revelations I just kinda like, why should I care about Constantinople. I think Revelations would've worked better as DLC, in my opinion anyhow.

whiteyford 01-11-2013 12:08 PM

I think it's just gotten to the yearly franchise stage, it's more about churning one out for Christmas than actually doing anything with the franchise.

DaveBrawl 01-11-2013 02:23 PM

I agree with that. I've been debating on whether or not to even worry with 3. I watched my brother play a few minutes early into the game, and I liked the idea of running through the forest and such as opposed to the same old buildings from the last few games, but it didn't scream play me. Revelations at least wraps up Altair and Ezio to draw me in, 3 I may get around too eventually but nothing about it stands out to much to me just seems like more of the same.

Extreme Angle 01-11-2013 02:34 PM

I think 3 wins on gameplay hands down.
And the setting is very refreshing...
Hated Connor though and the fact that the creed is pretty much non existent.
Achilles is my favorite character in 3.

RoXer 01-11-2013 05:40 PM

Games I've Beaten in 2013:

Max Payne 3 - 80

Fun stuff, very Max Payneish and wasn't really looking for anything too much else. It seems like there was just enough bad guys to shoot before parts of the game became too repetitive. It is a bit preposterous the amount of bad guys Max Payne kills but oh well. Multiplayer seemed fine but I didn't play all that much of it. The only thing that was frustrating was when it would come out of a cutscene and it put me out of cover for whatever reason or equipped me with a gun with no bullets and I would die instantly. Other than that though it was very Max Payneish and I enjoyed it.

Finished NSMBU 100%/ Every level, including secret exits and all Star Coins. Now wishing there was something else to buy on the Wii U. I fancy ZombiU but I'm not so sure. I'd prefer something less intense right now.
Might help if they hurried up with the VC.

Getting back into Skyward Sword. I'm not going to rush it but I hope to finish the story by the time the Hyrule Historia book gets here next month.

Still playing with NSMBU & Evil Genius.

whiteyford 01-22-2013 11:22 AM

Started the Amazing Spider-Man game, actually pretty good.

Drakul 01-22-2013 11:23 AM

I got it when it released and it is good. There are one or two tiny tweaks I'd make to it but, overall, it's the best Spider-Man game since Spider-Man 2 on the PS2.

whiteyford 01-22-2013 11:30 AM

Couldn't see any reviews for it but a couple lines comparing it to Spider-Man 2 and Arkham so I picked it up on a whim in the sales, better than I expected honestly.

Drakul 01-22-2013 11:33 AM

The only thing you really need to know is that it does contain spoilers from the film, even though the company that made it said it wouldn't.

It's a pity their wasn't more DLC for it.

whiteyford 01-22-2013 11:35 AM

Yeah part of the reason I didn't pick it up was because I hadn't seen the film at the time. It's hilarious how you can swing anywhere even if there's nothing to swing on really, although the swinging around is great.

Drakul 01-22-2013 11:49 AM

People complained abut the swinging being doable anywhere and not "realistic" but the guys that made the game said they tried doing it realistically but it wasn't as fun.
I've got no problem with the swinging the way it is.

I got the Stan Lee DLC with my game. It's fun to swing as Stan Lee but that's all it is. There is one single mission for Stan Lee and then you're left to your own devices. I never got the other DLC but it sounds more my style.

whiteyford 01-22-2013 12:08 PM

A guy with super powers is realistic but the swinging isn't? It's true though, having to swing around Central park etc would just get annoying.

Haven't even looked at the DLC, think I'm only at chapter 5, just defeated Vermin, but playing as Stan Lee can't go wrong.

Drakul 01-22-2013 12:33 PM

Stan Lee is fun purely because it's Stan Lee swinging from building to building. That wears off eventually.

I've had a similar argument with a friend of mine about costumes in superhero films. We're expected to believe a human has super powers but they don't think we'd believe the person would wear a colourful costume. So everyone gets crammed into black or dark blue leather onesies.

I can imagine the movie pitching meeting.
"So, this guy can walk on water, time travel and shoot fireballs from his eyes? Yeah, the public will buy that. This red and green outfit and cape? Totally unrealistic. Give him a black leather outfit and bulletproof vest and you've got yourself a movie!"

whiteyford 01-22-2013 01:16 PM

Wasn't that the reason behind the organic web shooters in the 1st three films, the idea that a high school student, boy genius no less, creating mechanical shooters wouldn't be believable, the super powers are fine though.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-22-2013 01:25 PM

I bought Arkham City a few weeks back. Almost finished it, just need to do the last few AR training things and get all the Physical Challenge trophies. Won't be getting 100% on the game though cause those combat challenge things are so boring so I'm not doing them.

I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised. They need to either commit to reality completely or not at all.

ClockShot 01-22-2013 05:36 PM

Just beat Farcry 3. Truly an amazing game. 4/5

SPOILER: show
Shaved a point because Buck's treasure hunt brought the game pace to a screeching halt. Took a while to pick back up again. Chose to save my friends at the end. Dennis gave me the impression he was fucking Citra behind my back during our last couple phone calls.

I've now gone back to Hitman: Absolution.

drave 01-22-2013 05:58 PM

Started up on Skyrim again recently. Going to get Dragonborn this weekend. I heard the dragon "mount" shout is garbage, as it only allows you to issue a few commands and not freely move about. Other than that, made my first ever pure caster/necromancer. Doing Dawnstar quests AGAINST the vampires this time, since mah main is a badass Master Vamp :D

Game is still great.

Games I've Beaten in 2013:

Max Payne 3 - 80

Fun game and was not what I was expecting at all. It starts out that you're in a coma and coma-you has the ability to "shift" into the air, spot a car anywhere in the city, and take control of the car to do whatever you want with. An unexpected mechanic but it's pretty neat. The story is real short and wraps up nicely. I kind of wish the cars would have handled a little bit better. Didn't try any of the multiplayer. Fun game.

Working On: Blops 2, The Walking Dead, Shift 2 Unleashed, inFamous 2, Dead Space 2, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Assassin's Creed 3, Deus Ex, God of War 3, God of War: Origins, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Spelunky, Dear Esther, Trine 2, Super Meat Boy, Metal Gear Solid Collection, maybe Portal 2 co-op

Balloon Fight because it's a NES game that cost 30p that I can play on my gamepad.

Mega man: Day in the Limelight -9/10
Mega man: Day in the Limelight 2 -10/10

Most fun I've had with a mega man game since I discovered mega man. The second one should of been the capcom endorsed fan game instead of that piece of shit street fighter one.

Seriously, go play these. They're free and they're fun as hell.

Shift 2 Unleashed - Holy Shit I Don't Care

Back in the summer I got on a driving/racing game kick and wanted to play some of them and I realized I had some in my Goozex queue so I requested them. It's January now and I don't give a shit. Plus I look at that pile of games in my closet (and that you can view below) and I really don't want to waste my time on a subpar racing game. Fuck it. After a little over an hour, I don't care. If it was any decent I would have kept playing but it isn't. The most difficult part of this whole thing will be trying to pawn it off on some poor guy who might request it. Which will take forever which means it will sit in my closet for maybe even longer than when I had requested it. Fuck.

Games I've beaten in 2013:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Castlevania IV

I started both of those in 2012 though. New Super Mario Bros was fun except for the fact that we kept getting in each other's way, so, annoying. Also a little lenient with retries and stuff. Castlevania was ridiculous. I was flipping out at the last boss and had to try on three separate days to beat it and kept dying but then today I started from there and beat it on the first try and it was kind of anti-climactic.

drave 01-31-2013 07:42 PM

haha! Dracula on Super Castlevania was hard as hell the first couple times I fought him too. If you want EZmode for the future, you can jump off the ledge after you kill Death but before you walk up the stairs to Dracula. Full health / item use, boomerang with triple throw and of course full morning star upgrade :)

The Boomerang x3 is the real winner there.

drave 01-31-2013 07:42 PM

And is it just me, or are older video games harder?

I dunno part of the fun of nsmbw was the hilarity that ensued from getting in each others way. Especially when we started to purposely fuck each other over.

Raven Reaper 01-31-2013 08:25 PM

Bioshock Duology series... I think the message of this game is how to be a real father to those little sister kids that were influenced by violent adult egomaniac underwater Atlantis-ish dictator type of dad... Other than that, I got both good endings on this one.. I just couldn't bear harvesting little girls like that.. I've seen enough children being killed or mistreated in games. Great game.. And the Infinite sequel says it might not be the same storyline as these 2.
