I WILL admit. I am anticipating steve rogers kicking the shit out of norman osborn.

Skippord 02-27-2010 04:53 AM

is it weird that US Agent has the same name as someone who committed treason?

Fignuts 02-27-2010 05:08 AM

No, because no one gives a shit about US Agent.

Skippord 02-27-2010 09:08 AM

well of course they don't

I just find it ironic

HeartBreakMan2k 02-27-2010 05:44 PM

So what's the siege storyline all about? I haven't really read anything aside since Civil War and World War Hulk?

My, you're behind.

In a brief-ish summary - in the Secret Invasion crossover from 2008 there's a massive Skrull attack on Earth. The Skrulls target Tony Stark and take out virtually every single piece of Stark Industries technology, discrediting him as pretty much useless. At the same time, Norman Osborn shoots the Skull Queen on camera in the final battle of the invasion, making him into something of a hero. The government puts Osborn in charge of SHIELD which ends up getting replaced by a new organisation named HAMMER. All the while he's involved in a secret alliance with a bunch of villains like Doctor Doom, Loki, The Hood and others and uses his power to basically further his own agenda. Siege is basically going to be the heroes finally fighting back against Osborn & co and presumably knocking him out of power.

Kalyx triaD 02-27-2010 05:58 PM

Basically how DC should have handled President Luthor's 'impeachment' rather than limit it to a Batman/Superman arc (good as it was, but it still should have been a crossover event).

Kalyx triaD 03-04-2010 04:08 PM

Wolverine 2's script is done and shooting will begin next year. Hugh Jackman is on board of course, as this particular story line was something he wanted to do since X2 dropped.

The first draft of Avengers was also sent to Marvel Studio heads. It must be nergasm-plus reading that one.

Fignuts 03-05-2010 12:30 AM

Wonder who the villain for that is gonna be. Loki will definitely be the main villain in thor, so I doubt they'll go with him.

I think Ultron is the most feasible. Would say Kang, but he's a little too out there, both in look and origins.

Kalyx triaD 03-05-2010 12:43 AM

Considering Loki's habit of being a dick on a cosmic scale I'd wager he'll have something to do with whatever motivates a team of superheroes to join up. I think Hulk will factor as an early challenge as well.

Kalyx triaD 03-06-2010 03:11 PM

Rumor has it that Olivia Munn's cameo in Avengers is more than that, she may have a solid part as Scarlet Witch! But I doubt they'd give a part like that to her, untested as she is - and these Marvel movies are drawing much more credible names, it would be a wasted casting IMO.

Doesn't Fox have a lock hold on Marvel's mutants? Is Scarlet Witch's classic Avengers status some kind of loophole? She is Magneto's daughter... Interesting.

Funky Fly 03-07-2010 08:02 AM

Who's to say the character won't appear in both?

The Destroyer 03-07-2010 09:25 AM

Scarlet Witch isn't really an X-Men character these days - she's far more associated with the Avengers. Can't really see her being signed away to Fox when she's far more likely to factor in to any Avengers films than future X-Men ones.

LuigiD 03-07-2010 10:16 AM

I always thought that when Rogers came back he would have a role more along the lines of Fury. Just kinda hidden, pulling strings from the shadows, etc.

Shadow 03-07-2010 03:54 PM

Gotta fling that sheild just one more time.

Any marvel movie after Iron Man 2 will suck

As a big marvel fan, I'm sure I was just as outraged as all of you that disney brought marvel. So maybe just the names of the heroes might bring some attention but don't expect a blast from the screen. Disney action movies are ok only if it involves pirates, can you imagine comic book heroes in the caribbean? I thought so. Although the original plans for Captain America are still in tact since it has something to do with nazies. Disney loves that.

Kalyx triaD 03-08-2010 07:33 AM

Disney's not going to interfere with current and even future Marvel deals with other studios, they will only increase Marvel's output by producing material for heroes other studios haven't picked up yet.

Nothing changes essentially, save for extra stuff.

Rammsteinmad 03-08-2010 05:57 PM

Hey Kalyx, sorry to go off topic here, but I was wondering something today that maybe you could help me with.

The Punisher and Solo. Have they ever teamed up or fought? I'd be interested to see it.

Rammsteinmad 03-08-2010 05:58 PM

This is solo BTW in case you don't know.

From Marvelousnews.com:

Quote:

Here is the official movie synopsis for the Kenneth Brannagh directed Thor.

"Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, "Thor", which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

Staring Chris Hemsworth,Tom Hiddleston,Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo,Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgard, Thor is slated to open in theatres on May 6,2011.

No, he's been underused in the Marvel Universe. He has interacted with many of Marvel's 'gritty' characters which makes his never meeting Punisher kind of odd. I don't like him, seems overly derivative.

Fignuts 03-10-2010 01:01 AM

Seems like a punisher rip-off.

He kind of looks like the answer to the following question:

What do you get when you Cross the Punisher with Conan Obrien?

Fignuts 03-10-2010 01:30 AM

and the 90's

Funky Fly 03-10-2010 06:57 AM

Yeah. I'm amazed he wasn't called Riptooth or Bloodclaw. Fuckin' 90s.

Rammsteinmad 03-10-2010 08:20 AM

Just for the record, I'm not a 'fan' of Solo or anything, I mean he pops up now and then and he seems alright, just kinda always thought he'd have met the Punisher by now.

The Destroyer 03-10-2010 09:48 AM

I haven't seen Solo in anything for years.

Reavant 03-10-2010 01:19 PM

wasnt there a movie called 'Solo' in the early 90's?

parkmania 03-10-2010 08:38 PM

I think so, starring Mario Peebles or somesuch.

parkmania 03-10-2010 08:39 PM

Enter Captain America:

The question of who will wield the shield is one of the most intriguing casting mysteries in contemporary Hollywood. It appears that Marvel has narrowed the field down quite a bit, though it is still unclear whether the studio will decide to go with a relative unknown or someone with a modest resume like Chris Evans (the Human Torch in the FF movies). The success that directors like J.J. Abrams who chose Chris Pine for Star Trek and James Cameron who went with Sam Worthington for Avatar have enjoyed certainly tends to indicate that casting unknown actors is no deterrent to creating a box office bonanza.

According to Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has already crossed a number of names off the well publicized list of Captain America wannabes (see “Captain America Casting Underway”) including John Krasinski (The Office), Michael Cassidy (Smallville), and Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl). Actors who are “still in the running” include Wilson Bethel who starred in HBO’s Generation Kill and is currently appearing in the Young and the Restless, Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Garrett Hedlund (Four Brothers, Tron Legacy), and Chris Evans, who is currently shooting the movie Safety Point in Texas.

According to The Reporter, Marvel Studios wants to sign its Captain America to a 9-picture deal, with The Avengers film being the second movie. The Captain America movie is set to debut on July 22, 2011.

Reavant 03-10-2010 11:49 PM

Sam worthington would be a sweet captain america btw

Lock Jaw 03-11-2010 02:09 AM

I'm picturing Jim from The Office as Captain America and laughing.

Funky Fly 03-11-2010 08:22 AM

How is Chris Evans in the running? I've only ever seen him play douchebags. He would have made a great Human Torch, had the FF movie not been a total abortion in the first place.

The Destroyer 03-11-2010 08:24 AM

Too much Deadpool. He really does not need 4 ongoing series.

Apparently two of the Jonas Brothers want to play Cap as well. Just as well that'll never happen.

Reavant 03-11-2010 10:31 AM

why on earth is there a deadpool with lightsabers and a dog deadpool?

Rammsteinmad 03-11-2010 11:13 AM

They wanna make 9 Captain America movies wtf?! The actor will be 60 by the time they're all done.

Unless, it's cameos etc.

Jon Kano 03-11-2010 01:14 PM

I am not all that informed on Marvel, its stories, comics or characters - but as a fan of the X-Men cartoon, and in turn these movies in general, I am someone who fails to see any actual appeal in a Captain America film, I mean the character looks pretty out dated and seems to have only served as a good character/story for 'back in the day'. I just don't see the appeal in a film being made, pretty sure there are other better characters and stories to make. Would the film be set in the past or modern day?

Lock Jaw 03-11-2010 01:16 PM

Captain America rules. Probably my favorite Marvel character.

I think the film is set in the past but ends up in the modern day? Too lazy to go check.

They're from alternate universes. Marvel's leading up to a Deadpool Corps miniseries.

I read a couple issues with the multiple deadpools, and it was hilarious.

dronepool 03-11-2010 03:38 PM

Too much Deadpool? I love him, and I agree (due to trying to get everything he's in has became mundane because it isn't a treat anymore) but I'm not pissed about it. I'm happy for him. I liked that character since like 1997 when he wasn't that big. When I got back into reading comics 3 years ago, I was so glad to see Cable & Deadpool- I was like "oh shit! Deadpool's has another book"

But just look at how many books Spider-Man, Batman, Superman are in. Deadpool is simply "hot" right now and Marvel is just being capitalist and cashing in on his cult-fueled rise to fame. I NEVER thought I'd see 4 on goings from him. But chances are, going by the sales- there will only probably be 2 main books left after the storm.

Check out the oath for the DP Corps-

"Through Lightest Dark or Darkest Light, Don't need no Bling to join the Fight, Were Mercs with Mouths and so much more, Yippee Ki Yay were the Deadpool Corps!!"

Siege #3 is out. Pretty fucking awesome, but I'm not feeling this 4 issue deal. Feels a bit rushed, and some of these fights deserve more time.

SPOILER: show
Sentry's true form looks pretty fucking monstrous. Also, I like the twist at the end. After sentry killed ares, I figured he would trump norman as the main villain before the story was finished, but I didn't think norman was trying to save everyone all along.

Dunno how they are gonna take sentry down though. Thor couldn't do jack, and he's gone one on one with celestials.

Shadow 03-19-2010 02:35 PM

Dude...the Sentry's only as powerful as he thinks he is.

Hulk can and probably will kick his ass.

He didn't the last time they fought. And Hulk isn't there. Probably isn't going to show up either.

Also, we don't know what sentry really is yet. Norman is the only one who knows. Suspect we'll find out in the last issue.

Kalyx triaD 03-22-2010 01:25 AM

Apparently Fox still wants to do X4, continuing the story of the trilogy mutants. This is hard to believe, as the original trilogy ended in a messy 'reboot welcome' climax, but the return of Bryan Singer to the franchise and the Wolverine series may be setting up a return to the trilogy universe. The First Class prequel is still on tap with Singer directing.

Hmm...

It would seem that First Class won't kick off a new series after all, and it will be reformatted in the Singer-verse with him returning. I'm guessing it'll be a one shot, explaining a few things for 'series retrospect'. Once that and Wolverine 2 is out of the way, we return to the present to see the modern X-Men - Bobby Drake and company grown up and taking on Sentinels if there's a God. This is all theory based on the tidbit that Fox still wants an X4 since Singer returned. Because between X4 (sequel), Wolverine 2 (spin-off/prequel/sequel), First Class (prequel/reboot), and Deadpool (spin-off/reboot)... it's looking kind of confusing.

Fignuts 03-22-2010 02:05 AM

Good.

Rammsteinmad 03-22-2010 08:06 AM

To be honest I hate all these ideas of rebooting everything. Spider-Man, X-Men etc, come on. X-Men 3 wasn't that bad (I liked it), and I see no problem in continuing from there, introducing more characters and possibly have someone like Apocalypse as the bad guy.

BigDaddyCool 03-22-2010 10:19 AM

Plus those are still fairly fresh. It wouldn't make sense to reboot them all. I think we all were ok with rebooting the hulk, because the first one they did in the current line of comic book movies was flat out awful.

Reavant 03-22-2010 11:17 AM

The Hulk wasnt really a reboot though. Also it would be kinda hard to go on with an x4 in the same universe because there would be no more cyclops, jean, rogue, or professor x in the way we saw him last.

parkmania 03-22-2010 04:17 PM

Chris Evans, who played Johnny Storm in two Fantastic Four films and who also stars in two other comic book-based films due out this summer, The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, has been offered the key role of Captain America. Reportedly the deal includes three Captain America movies, a similar number of Avengers films as well as appearances in several other Marvel movies (see “Cap Actor Will Get 9-Picture Deal”).

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Evans has been offered the title role in Captain America: The First Avenger, which Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) is directing. According to The Reporter, the film will be shot in England and released on July 22nd, 2011.

If the report is correct and Evans does take the job, it will mark the end of one of the major casting competitions of recent years. A horde of hunky young actors including Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Wilson Bethel, Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Scott Crawford, and Garrett Hedlund have all been mentioned in conjunction with the role (see “Captain America Casting Underway”).

Hulk wasn't a complete reboot...it was kind of a retooling. But whatever.

As for an X-4 or Spiderman X I really think they should focus on Avengers for a while before doing anything with those franchises.

Lock Jaw 03-22-2010 06:14 PM

Different studios, so they don't really conflict.

Kalyx triaD 03-22-2010 09:38 PM

Rammsteinmad 03-23-2010 05:44 AM

Kalyx triaD 03-23-2010 05:58 AM

It's dawning on me that they're seriously heading toward Avengers on screen. It's gonna be a party!

Jeritron 03-23-2010 06:25 AM

The casting of Captain America and Thor is peculiar as far as star power is concerned. It's not that I care about that, because I don't. I only care that the director picks the right actor for the role.
But The Avengers is going to be a huge production, and it's going to be strange for the "leader" to be a lesser star than Robert Downey and Ed Norton.
Wouldn't be suprised if they played it, or at least marketed it, to seem like Iron Man is the leader of the Avengers and Captain America more of a sidekick.

I honestly was expecting them to cast big for CA and Thor. Like real big.

Really doubt that.

Even people who don't read comics recognize Cap as a far more iconic and important character than Iron Man. I don't think people will have trouble buying a lesser actor in the role of leader, for that reason.

Fignuts 03-23-2010 10:29 AM

Also, even though cap has always been recognized as the "official" leader, he's always kind of co-run the avengers with Iron Man.

Except when Iron Man was a filthy drunkard.

Rammsteinmad 03-23-2010 04:05 PM

If the movies leading up to it are all a success, Evans and the guy playing Thor will be 'big' by then.

Blitz 03-23-2010 10:37 PM

Read an article where Alex Ross suggested Jon Hamm for Cap. That could've been perfect casting.

thedamndest 03-23-2010 10:44 PM

I see Ed Norton is only rumored on imdb for Avengers. How rumored is he? What is the issue?

Kalyx triaD 03-23-2010 11:04 PM

They haven't approached him or anything, and you don't need Hulk's human form technically. He had some beef with IH's director over editing and tone (Norton wrote most of IH), but he's cool with Marvel Studios. It's more an expectation than a rumor, I'd say.

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2010 02:43 AM

Due to scheduling conflict, Bryan Singer will now produce X-Men: First Class rather than direct it.

Rammsteinmad 03-27-2010 11:41 AM

So they're really going with the reboot then eh?

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2010 12:01 PM

Yes... and no. They still want to make X-Men 4 and X-Men: First Class concurrently. It's all pretty messy.
