Either way, by the time he's cured WWE was no longer interested in him as a wrestler and he wasn't interested anymore in going back to his usual style of wrestling. Him getting outed as having Hep B pretty much is where you can pinpoint when his active career ends.

Even if he didn't retire in 2011, about a year later is when the Abdullah the Butcher scandal occurs involving the Hep disease which probably would have killed whatever chance he had left of ever wrestling in the WWE.

He can only go after NXT, NXT UK, or Cruiser titles.

Not familiar with the tournament rules, but often when they do these things, the title shot exists within that realm. It's likely he'd be able to challenge for a title in NXT, NXT UK or 205 Live -- providing he is eligible for the Crusierweight Title.
