When I was a kid a PPV going 3 hours felt long. I can't fathom any children today sitting thru 7 hours of WWE on a Sunday.

Ol Dirty Dastard 01-29-2019 07:29 PM

RAW should be an hour.

Bad News Gertner 01-29-2019 09:27 PM

I remember finding it hard to watch those 3 hour Nitro's back in the day and I loved WCW. 7 hours is ridiculous.

That might explain why their fans are predominantly 55-year-old men.

This visual is reason enough to not shoehorn Charlotte into the Becky/Ronda match.

"Barry O" is looking and sounding rough these days.

That's probably a really interesting interview.

Ol Dirty Dastard 01-30-2019 11:26 AM

Hopefully he discusses his dynamic stint at the Terry Garvin school of self defence

There’s a very good chance they could do this, but does anyone really feel the Horsewomen schtick? They don’t feel like a real stable and the belts don’t have the same sort of situational relevance to me. I’d rather they all do their own things.

Ever since I heard Cornette mention it, it really does bother me when I see absolute scrubs used as jobbers. Makes me hate the guy beating them up. Heard great things about WALTER, but it’s just one of those peek behind the curtain things.

Fignuts 01-31-2019 01:46 AM

Been rooting for Sonya Deville. Like her style, and she's steadily been improving. I loved when she came out at the rumble and just started decking people.

Mr. Nerfect 01-31-2019 02:20 AM

I also like Sonya Deville. I haven't seen that much of her work, but I like her look and something about her makes me want to see her succeed. Maybe it's because she was thrown out there with an MMA gimmick just a few months before Rousey came in and she was still plenty green?

Mr. Nerfect 01-31-2019 02:22 AM

If they really want more soap opera storylines, then the Mandy Rose/Naomi/Usos/Sonya Deville stuff should have led to Jey pretending to be Jimmy to bed Mandy and Sonya revealing she has a secret lesbian crush on Mandy, who rejects Sonya, which leads to a three-way between her, Jimmy and Naomi. I mean, as PG as you can make that.

XL 01-31-2019 04:23 AM

I thought that’s where they were going with the hotel stuff from the other week (with Jey going instead of Jimmy, especially when he was like “MY wife?”) but a guy pretending to be another guy in order to bed a women probably wouldn’t go over too well in certain circles.

So you never minded it before but now you do because Cornette told you to. Got it.

Jordan 01-31-2019 09:31 AM

It really does suck about her injury. She was a great talent and was truly the first rock that rolled in the women's evolution. She would be in the mix with Ronda, Becky and Flair if she wasn't out of the running now.

Evil Vito 01-31-2019 09:34 AM

I'm not having a go at Cornette either. I quite enjoy his shoots with other people, or on specific topics - he's far less negative when discussing wrestling's past, so things like a Timeline or Guest Booker shoot. I thought his proposed WM18 card in the Invasion Guest Booker looked like shit, but I appreciated the effort and enthusiasm, And stuff like him interviewing Bill Watts or Percy Pringle is a better sense of the man minus the vitriol.

However, I'm put off by his inability to admit when he's wrong. The level of hatred he has toward so much of modern wrestling...to the point where he says he doesn't care if Kenny Omega has the greatest wrestling match ever, because the fact he's had comedy matches in the past invalidates it...it's soured me on him even when he's talking about the past. If he can get a lot of his takes on modern wrestling wrong, who's to say he's right about the past either, and not equally clouded by prejudice?

It doesn't really bother me it's a monster heel killing the jobber, but the match needs to go as short as possible. Under a minute preferably. Jobber charges, eats a kick, power move, power move, finisher, 1-2-3.

If the heel is a "cocky" heel, the matches can drag on a little more as he has a more of a "cat with a mouse" feel, playing with his prey rather than destroying it as quickly as possible like the monster heel. More posing, feinting, out-maneuvering, etc.

Jordan 01-31-2019 11:21 AM

Jeff Jarrett's punches are more entertaining to me than 80% of the dives we see on a weekly basis. I caught The Rumble of course and he was good but on Raw without the goofy costume he came off so much better working over Elias until the end of the segment. I would like to see a one on one between Double J and Elias down the line.

They are called enhancement talent for a reason. They're supposed to not only technically make your stars look impressive but physically as well. They should look like average joes cuz they get their asses kicked really badly lol. When you have some hulking jobber who gets shit kicked every week, it makes it seem like anyone can go and get big muscles. Takes away the uniqueness of your stars.

Lol, no. It's more like the picture of the duck that you turn on your side and can no longer unsee the rabbit. It's something that's possibly even subconsciously there, but when it's pointed out to you it ruins it. Like people pointing out that Owen Wilson says "Wow" a lot. You start looking for it.

There are debates on these boards alone as to just how over Ryback did or didn't get. I've never been that impressed by him or his crowd reactions. That being said, I think it does work on modern audiences because of what they are conditioned to. Watching the Royal Rumble pre-show, everybody was gushing over how great Buddy Murphy is, but to me he's really boring and I can't see him having wide appeal.

I think the modern audience can be a terrible indicator of what is or isn't actually going to attract other people.

That's all salient, but the psychology of it is just wrong for me. Why would a scrub even dare to get in the ring with a monster heel? Shouldn't that be suicide?

This is going to be a weird example, but have you ever seen the Mortal Kombat movie? I don't know why this is springing to mind, but there's that guy that fights Goro, who is like the monster of the film. That guy isn't a fucking loser. He looks like a legit martial artist that can hold his own for a second there.

WWE just goes too corny with it with the James Ellsworths and the guys with absolutely no definition and obviously nothing at all. It doesn't even lend itself well in comparison, because even the average guy would look good compared to them. It's just very hokey to me. There are ways to do squashes that don't give the game away.
