AEW is on a TSN subchannel. TSN shows basketball. WWE/NXT is on Sportsnet360. Sportsnet also shows hockey and Blue Jays baseball

Think in terms of sports fans, UFC/MMA and wrestling fans are a lot closer together than basketball or hockey fans.

Part of it has to do with most notable sheets outlet reports on both MMA and wrestling and the other part has to do with UFC's boom in the early to mid-2000s hit wrestling the hardest for lost fans.

We might have to throw an AEW tournament of some kind....can't put my finger on it.

From what I’ve learned spending the past few years in Canada, everyone likes hockey to some extent and the percentage of people who like or have liked wrestling on some level is oddly high. So I’d say pretty much any Canadian who still watches wrestling would have a decision to make if there’s a hockey game at the same time.

And while on the subject, I get the feeling being here that Bret Hart is not as beloved in Canada as I thought he was. A lot of hardcore fans love him. But I don’t think it’s that much different than the hardcore fans in the US who love him. Though maybe the years have been unkind to his legacy here.

Seems ESPN taking away the more valuable of the two NHL contracts in terms of Stanley Cup airings was a key reason why NBC eventually pulled out from the negotiations and opened the door for Turner to step in.

At one point they were offering more money than what was their final offer to keep the NHL but that changed after ESPN snagged the first deal.

He also hasn't really been in the spotlight in quite a while. I can definitely tell you he was about as hot as they come during the Canada vs US feud. It also depends on which part of Canada. Hulk Hogan is beloved in Ontario. I wouldn't say the same for Western Canada

I’m also basing it on lists of famous Canadians where I thought he’d be way higher. I’m sure he was hotter in the 90s when wrestling itself was. But he’d be higher in the states as well. I just always had the feeling that his legacy in Canada was bigger than it is.

Bret was never a "pop culture icon" in Canada the way Hogan and Rock were/are in the USA as popular as Bret was here. He was very popular with wrestling fans, but outside of that he never reached that level here

Bret was always the most popular across the pond as they say. That was where he was always considered that beloved hero. When he turned heel Canada kind of got wrapped up in his lore of popularity in Europe, and wrestling fans in Canada were happy to be a part of that lore.

I think Stu was far more beloved in Canada, and Bret was just another one of Stu's kids, albeit the most successful one.
