I had this idea after watching a brief clip of Kevin Nash talking about the current product:

WWE could experiment with different audiences by putting a more adult product -- or less produced, anyway -- on the WWE Network, where they don't have to adhere to TV standards or expectations. All the Attitude era stuff is already there for the kiddies to absorb anyway.

I don't know whether or not this is possible with streaming services, but I'd toy with the idea of putting it up for a limited amount of time too. Maybe even a very narrow window of time in order to make it seem a lot more urgent. In my head, I was playing with 11pm on a Friday until 11am on a Saturday. The idea, although you would never promote it as such, would be to get the little kiddies to sneak a watch either while their parents are too busy drinking or nursing hangovers the next morning. I found wrestling through a Saturday morning show.

It allows you to shake more fruit out of the tree. Very few talent can get the chance to show what they can do in an organic setting. I'm not saying they would be saying "Fuck" every three seconds or anything, but you can have more organic feuds and stories that have a bit more...testosterone than the current product.

Rammsteinmad 10-25-2018 07:39 AM

I use to love all that Indy nonsense, in particular, back around 2008-2010 or something I was a huge Chikara fan. But now I just see all these crap and none of it seems funny anymore.

The guy with the super strong penis who keeps flipping people over with it... never laughed once. Think I've lost my smile.

Mr. Nerfect 10-25-2018 09:16 AM

I think at some stage it's natural for wrestling fans, given the stigma associated with wrestling, to say "Of course we know it's not real -- look at how deliberately fake it is." And that gets compounded with so many wrestling tropes being smacked over our heads that anything that subverts it seems "fun." But wrestling is really conflict drama. It has goals (winning and losing) and it should have stakes in order to justify emotional investment.

The thing with all the comedy wrestling is that is completely defeats the point of any of that. I don't think it's impressive to go out there and pretend that the goals and stakes are ludicrous. And I think to non-fans, as opposed to being an obvious edge into to a staged form of entertainment, it's actually as silly as someone trying to do a comedy song but not being able to remotely play an instrument or be able to sing. "Why do you watch this shit? You know it's fake, right?" "Of course I do! Look at that guy swinging people with his penis! They're clearly not trying to fool anyone!" "Yeah, but why do you watch this shit?"

It's got even less of a point than WWE's sports entertainment, and I actually consider it a very self-conscious and self-hating form of wrestling. I'm sure the guys who do it think it is funny, but I can't help but think that they must be deeply insecure to need to overtly discredit any form of irony bribe. It's like they are too scared to actually try. And it's riddled with 15-year-old boy syndrome.

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2018 10:02 AM

I think I know the Kevin Nash clip you’re talking about. He had a great line that went something like “How am I supposed to suspend disbelief when I’m watching a grown man say ‘I’m gonna kick your butt’. Meanwhile I go outside and two 14 year olds are getting off the bus ‘Your mom sucked my dick last night...’”

And they don't sound 6 years old.

6 of those guys are now contracted to WWE, with another who used to work there, and a guy they brought in as a big deal for a one off appearance.

Rammsteinmad 10-25-2018 11:20 AM

I do wanna see Chuck Taylor in the WWE. Even though I've "outgrown" the comedy stuff, I do think he's a pretty solid worker and has loads of goofy charisma.

Megyn Kellys comments weren't that bad. She was asking a question.

#1-norm-fan 10-25-2018 01:02 PM

Did WWE pull their people from the appearance for was the show just scrapped by NBC? Because it sounds like the latter.

SlickyTrickyDamon 10-25-2018 03:29 PM

They canceled the show and she is probably fired. WWE didn't do shit.

Bet if Kelly offered a boatload of cash, WWE wouldn't see a problem with it.

Also a bit funny that WWE has a problem with blackface but not with people who say racist things considering the recent Hogan news.

As of right now, WWE pulled their people. NBC hasn't made any actual decision yet.

Everything is speculation and clickbait at this point. The show is not cancelled yet. She is not fired yet. Both of these things are very likely to happen, but as of now, they haven't. I don't have any love for Megyn Kelly, but given what she actually said, I would hope they would not fire her and maybe just make her take some tolerance training or something for publicity purposes.

As it stands right now, the show is on the air and she is on a leave of absence. She wasn't on the show today, but probably will be on Friday as they pretape the Friday shows. We will know more when NBC makes an official statement or when that timeslot roles around on Monday.

Sepholio 10-25-2018 04:22 PM

It's amazing to me that WWE will pull people from Megyn Kelly over some innocent comments because they fear backlash from being associated with that.....yet they are still going to Saudi Arabia. These 2 decisions literally don't jive.

Emperor Smeat 10-25-2018 04:23 PM

Apparently WWE's live events took a huge hit for the fiscal quarter based on WWE's recent report. Both revenues and attendance were at their lowest in years with Vince pleading to investors not to worry since he can quickly fix it.

Numbers-wise, everything else in the report that the WWE tried to present as positive had a hidden negative or counter which is why their stocks took a hit afterwards. Like them boasting at having 1.65 million subscribers for the Network but yet they only made 2% more in revenues compared to last year.

Innovator 10-25-2018 04:25 PM

Sounds like NBC wanted a reason to get rid of Megyn Kelly

slik 10-25-2018 04:52 PM

Tickets too expensive for non-big shows.

Cool King 10-25-2018 04:55 PM

Uncaged VI is being released tomorrow and the track listing is as follows:

Quote:

1: Pourquoi? (Bourgeoisie Remix) [Maryse]
2: Hurt You (Katie Lea)
3: Strong and Sexy (Stronger) [Gail Kim]
4: Party On (Alicia Fox)
5: Tropical Storm (Pacific Islands Remix) [Tamina]
6: The Girl Next Door (Stacy Keibler)
7: Yeah Baby (Natalya)
8: Glamazon (Championship Remix) [Beth Phoenix]
9: What Love Is (RnB Remix) [Candice Michelle]
10: Don't Mess With (Victoria)
11: Molly Holly (Molly Holly)
12: Made of Ivory (Ivory)
13: Who's That Girl (Emma)
14: All Grown Up (General Manager Remix) [Stephanie McMahon]
As you can see, it's an all female track listing (I wonder why?).

The only themes I'm really interesting in are Katie Lea's, Natalya's (but we've already got the full version from the SvR games but it's still a good theme), Beth Phoenix's, Molly Holly's and Ivory's.

I've also noticed that just over half of the themes are from the 05-09 period but you can't really complain as the vast majority of women before 2005 were only given really generic sounding production themes, especially in the late 90's/early 00's, which are only represented by Ivory, Stacy Keibler and Molly Holly. I'm not counting Stephanie's theme there even though it's from 2002, because she's the boss' daughter so obviously she would have been given her very own theme.

I think it's cool that we've been given two themes that were only ever used once, with those being Beth Phoenix and Emma, who by the way, is the only "2010's" theme on the album and yeah Tamina's theme is from 2012 but I can't really recall her using a remix of "Tropical Storm", so I think that may be a completely unused theme all-together. I think maybe she was going to use it but plans were made to pair her up with AJ Lee, so she just began using AJ Lee's theme instead.

I remember reading somewhere that although the Uncaged albums are credited to Jim Johnston, he has never had anything to do with the albums as it's all CFO$ doing. I remember reading that they're given free range to the WWE music library and they select which themes get added to the albums. They are also apparently allowed to change the names of tracks which they did with Viscera's theme from Uncaged III. It's original Jim Johnston title was "Fuck Me" but they changed it to "Gut Punch". I think maybe they've done the same with Molly Holly's theme as its title is simply "Molly Holly". I'm sure its original title was "Virginous", "Virgin" or "Wholesome". Something that was related to her gimmick at the time anyway. "Molly Holly" is kind of a boring and unimaginative title and doesn't really scream that Jim Johnston made it. I think CFO$ may have wanted to change it but couldn't think up of something so they just went with "Molly Holly" because as we've seen with their themes, they are just simply creative Gods.

WWE should make house shows tix cheaper

They often get too close to being the same price as RAW/SDLive ticket prices

Sepholio 10-25-2018 05:03 PM

Yeah my last house show ticket was like 63 bucks and they were good seats but not great. First row of non-floor seats. Good view though considering I was sitting above everyone in front of me by a good bit.

Should also run fewer of them since not only are they directly competing against themselves, it would also give an extra day of rest for wrestlers to keep them healthy.

Think it was the Observer who mentioned the only reason why WWE runs house shows on the same day as a RAW or Smackdown episode is due to Vince and co not wanting wrestlers and road crews to have an extra day off. Nor do they feel like shifting the schedule so that the off day starts on a Monday or Tuesday depending on the brand.

I'm curious as to how Vince thinks he can fix it. He probably doesn't, but that's the point of an investor meeting, isn't it? Lie to them enough to keep them invested? But I'm glad there is bad news coming out of the report. WWE is not going to change unless it has to.

They have to charge more for tickets because fewer people are going. They would be able to get away with charging less if there was more interest in the product. This is the same reason they are thinking about bringing in tiers to the Network. They can't get new people in, so they need to milk their hardcores in order to keep chugging along.

WWE puts themselves in these situations. When they don't have a brand split, SmackDown becomes a rerun or otherwise redundant, and its ratings tank which means it is at risk of cancellation a lot. When they do a brand split, SmackDown benefits, but Raw suffers and live events and PPVs go down, because it weakens the core roster strength. It's this constant tweaking game between keeping SmackDown alive and not letting your other business get too weak.

The simple answer would be to end the brand split and let someone else handle SmackDown, making it a unique show with its own feel and storylines that get people hooked. You know -- actually putting the work in to make the show feel important while you still have talent on Raw and live events. But that requires effort. Much easier to just give it a "unique" roster and then act surprised when things are so watered down that no one gives a shit and you need to jack-up ticket prices.

I'll watch it out of curiosity but I'll only really be watching the Battle Royal match (because I like Battle Royals) and Trish & Lita/Bliss & James.

I'll maybe watch the two main brand Women's Championship matches but I'll only be watching the Raw Women's Championship match because I want to see the terrible decision that Vince & Co. will make when Nikki Bella defeats Ronda Rousey to become champion.
