Still probably the most surreal stuff WWE has ever produced. Can't believe this was a thing. lol |

Find it funny Luke Harper is going to win a title before Bray Wyatt

I'm more surprised he wasn't a former tag champion already.

Possible midterm week will ruin Mania for me :(

Don't know anything about Noah or All Japan anymore. NJPW is the only one I've followed the last 5 years. |

I've tried watching more New Japan recently. Hiroshi Tanahashi is apparently their "John Cena," but he wrestles like freakin' Shawn Michaels. Unbelievable talent. What I saw from Kazuchika Okada was brilliant too. These two men having another match with JR calling it? Yes, please.
I would love the JR/Matt Striker commentary team. I think Striker would be able to keep JR on-point and "present" at the booth, if that makes sense, and I think Striker's character (either on purpose or in real life) could annoy JR just enough to give them an enjoyable face/heel announcer dynamic. |
I'm really excited for Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kota Ibushi too, for whatever reason. Nakamura is the man, but I haven't seen much from Ibushi. Something about it seems really fresh by Japanese standards though.
|
Actually, they should just sign Raven to do the color commentary.

William Regal is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. And that's coming from someone who doesn't buy into the "technical wrestling skill is everything" stuff. As a complete package, I'd put him as one of my all time favorites.

Woo Tyson Kidd wins 7th televised match in a row on Main Event.

That would be amazing. Kidd squeaking out wins via Could Out, DQ, and other nefarious means and pushing it as a Goldberg-style winning streak would be awesome.
|
I hope they do a serious Regal retrospective, with some of his best matches. He had some damn fine matches with people who had completely different styles. And he saved some of his best work for the end of his career, with Cesaro and Ohno.
|
|
Regal's book is really good as well.
Definitely deserves more praise. |
I'm pretty giddy about this New Day thing they have going with Woods and Kofi (and Big E, presumably). Yes there's a somewhat racist undertone to it but it's something for the midcard to work with.
|
I still feel like Heath Slater should have a match with Sheamus, eat a Brogue Kick that hits him so hard, he wakes up thinking he's JBL's nephew.

I actually thought there was someone in there I would recognize.

I'm watching the TNA One Night Only Knockout Knockdown show (filmed in May, show last week).
There's a bunch of unknown indie girls taking on the regular Knockouts. They keep showing little vignettes to introduce us to the compeitors, only they're featured on the regular Knockouts - the ones you're already familiar with if you watch TNA. Additionally, having looked at the results, one the few indie girls to get wins over the Knockouts, Havok wasn't one of them. They've since hired her and presented her as an unstoppable force in the division...before airing this show. Why do they tape them so far in advance!? |
The usual money issues that's plagued TNA ever since the Hogan era. Was a lot cheaper for them to travel 2-3 times and tape a bunch of episodes in a row than their usual weekly routine.

Excellent photoshopping on the face/off gimmick too. Almost didn't notice it was two different guys! |
Maryland Championship Wrestling is running a show in Delaware for the first time in 10 years on Saturday with special appearances by RVD, Lita and Ron Simmons. Wish they'd run a show closer to me though.

They used to tape shows at Duane Gills Wrestling school a few years ago..

What was it that Cesaro said about the Cena Orton match?
|
Made a sarcastic remark about the staleness and amount of times Orton vs Cena in some form has occurred. Also the crowd caring more about other things than those two.
He wasn't the only person to say stuff like that recently but likely the only one the WWE has publicly punished as a lesson. |
Well, that's a bummer. Price paid for being right, I suppose.

Random idea for the WWE Network. Keep in mind I'm not too up-to-date on how this sort of technology works.
The WWE apparently hasn't reached its target subscribers, and have actually lost only a few less than they gained. Since the start of the Network launching, I've seen pundits saying that they expect that PPVs will begin costing things even on the Network at some point. But instead of that, I was thinking that the WWE could make payment for live specials "optional." You can choose to pay what you want for an event ordered through the Network, and some of the profits could go to a chosen charity working with the WWE. For example, the WWE could donate a percentage of what they make extra on Hell in a Cell to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. They can still give away ones that are entirely free, like Survivor Series, which can be called the WWE's "Thanksgiving" to its millions of fans. But even shows like NXT's live specials can have the option of fans paying money to support that product, and the funding can go towards the Performance Centre, NXT rookies, the production crew, Full Sail University, etc. I can just imagine Triple H smiling as he hands over a new expensive piece of lab equipment to Full Sail, donated by the fans of NXT. People could opt to pay for a potential free NXT live special because they want to send the message that this is their chosen style of wrestling show. Imagine if NXT Takeover made more money than Night of Champions? Would that be enough to make up for the WWE falling short of their desired number of subscribers? Or is that an entirely insane idea from a guy who doesn't know what he is talking about? |

If they can't get people to pay $9.99 for everything (including PPV events, NXT specials, and so on) they sure as hell won't get people to sign up if they then have to pay more on top. You're basically trying to raise more money (regardless that it's for charity) from the subscribers you do have, whilst making the whole thing less appealing for the customers you haven't converted. I'd bet you'd lose more in revenue from the subscribers that say "FUCK THAT!" and cancel (especially now they're not tied in for 6 months) than you would make from those willing to pay for specific events. |
Yeah. Basically WWE over-estimated the amount of people who still give a fuck about the product. Free PPVs or not. Today's rasslin' is not enough to keep old school fans around. A million subscribers was a tall order.

Well, if us Canadians had the US version of the Network, as well as UK not getting it yet when they should've, their subs might be closer to what they expected.

Most people wouldn't have paid $10 for just the back catalog of ppv and DVDs because its mostly available for free elsewhere.
What I figure will eventually happen is WWE will sell the streaming rights of everything but the ppvs to Hulu/Netflix and then sell the streaming ppvs themselves for $10. |
