How many times has Big Show been "viciously assaulted" this year? Just seems that every feud with him involves seeing him get completely destroyed "like never before".

GD 11-07-2014 02:07 AM

Remember when Cena said that he would never leave us and then goes ahead and shoots for Parks and Rec :wavesad:

Here's the thing with Big Show...

They've booked him like retards forever. He should be a bigger deal than he is. If they had overused the "OMG he's being beaten down like we've never seen him before!" with Andre, do you think he would have been remotely as big of a deal? No. It's ridiculous how careless they get with certain guys booking-wise. Show was getting GREAT reactions last year during that authority storyline. He was more over than I can remember him ever being because he was being booked as the guy the authority couldn't handle. Then the FIRST NIGHT he gets rehired... they have the authority beat the living shit out of him and show the world he's just another guy as opposed to a giant who can save the company from evil. And the Survivor Series main event instantly turns to shit. Ridiculous.

I decided to watch the last few minutes of Superstars this morning as there was nothing else on TV and I was waiting to see Kane trip again on Raw, but they edited it out with just a shot of Triple H and Stephanie, though you still heard the audio of everyone laughing.

The original plan, which could still be in the works, is for Lesnar to finally lose at WrestleMania 31 to Roman Reigns, making Reigns' the new face of the company. Part of the issue with that is the concern that it won't be as meaningful if everyone knows it's Lesnar's final match.

There was an expectation at one point in time that WWE would sign Lesnar to a new deal and possibly give him a big babyface run. While it could still happen, it really seems to boil down to whether or not WWE considers his price tag something that's worth it financially in the end.

The alternative as things stand now would appear to be Cena beating Lesnar, setting up a Cena vs. Reigns match at WrestleMania, which Reigns would win. They could also put the title on Seth Rollins and have Reigns beat him at WrestleMania, however the feeling is that wouldn't be as meaningful as Reigns beating Lesnar or Cena

As he recovers from hernia surgery, Roman Reigns is taking acting lessons from Howard Fine, who was once recognized as "Best Acting Teacher in Los Angeles" by Back Stage magazine. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported in July that Fine was working with NXT talent at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. During his 30-year teaching career, Howard has personally coached Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Mohammed Hassan, Stacy Keibler, Diamond Dallas Page, Lindsay Lohan, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Salma Hayek, Sasha Cohen, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Kwan, Rosanna Arquette, Tara Reid, Amanda Byrnes, Vanessa Hudgens, Ray Parker Jr., Gerard Butler, Linda Gray, Darryl Hannah, Diana Ross, Mike Tyson, Julia Roberts, Lou Ferrigno, Carl Lewis, Val Kilmer, Brooke Shields, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Chavo Guerrero is calling a lot of the shots behind the scenes at Lucha Underground. It is said to be similar to how Bully Ray's influence backstage in TNA was. In addition to being a senior agent in charge of laying out matches and finishes for most matches, Chavo is also a liaison between the boys and One Three Media, the production company behind the tapings. Chavo also continued to push for the wrestlers to slow down and do more mat work at the final tapings for the year, even with the luchadores, who are more well known for the aerial style of wrestling. One source noted that Chavo was frustrated that younger wrestlers, as well as even Johnny Mundo (f.k.a. John Morrison), were going too fast and has been adamant that the match pacing slows down. They felt that the 44-year old Chavo was having trouble keeping up and a that a slower style worked to his benefit
Quote:

As noted earlier, AAA talents Drago, Fenix Jr. and Pentagon Jr. missed the first set of Lucha Underground tapings due to visa issues. They will be appearing after the third episode airs next week. It will be interesting to see what style is emphasized in January when even more Mexican luchadores start to come in for the tapings, many of whom are not familiar with the more mat-based style. A source close to Chavo believes that he can quickly teach the luchadores to become acclimated to a more Americanized style.

Cena is pretty bad/loud at calling spots as it is, so I can imaging how bad it would have been at that event with sound issues.

Are any of you watching the Monday Night Wars on the WWE Network? I think it's pretty good, I don't like the way they refer to the WWF at that time as the WWE though, it kind of ruins it a little.

DrA 11-09-2014 10:53 AM

They're still doing eight more episodes of it apparently, but I don't know how they can squeeze eight more episodes out of it, it becomes redundant pretty fast. They still need to do the Sting episode, probably an Undertaker/Kane and Diamond Dallas Page one, maybe a Giant/Big Show one and The Decline of WCW, I guess like a Nitro Girls one or something, I don't know.

I've been watching it. I'd have preferred something with chronology. They keep retreading the same ground; WCW signing Hogan, WWE's cartoonish product, WCW signing Nash & Hall, the WWE's change of creative direction, etc.

Damian Rey 11-09-2014 12:34 PM

My issue with it is more of how WWE paints themselves as a victim. I know they talk up how they were going to go out of business and yadda yadda. Though I question the validity of that mindset considering they still sold out arenas and still put on a plethora of ppv events. I'm sure they may have lost money and had trouble keeping their best stars, but I feel like they're a bit over dramatic. Maybe I'm being ignorant. It's a possibility.

Also, I still don't get why the WWE is so gung ho intent on pushing Reigns. What is it they see that both this board and seemingly the universe don't? Was he that over when he got hurt? Feel like they're missing the big sailing yacht of popularity in Dean Ambrose that's floating right by them.

Fignuts 11-09-2014 12:40 PM

The whole "playing the victim" thing has always annoyed me, especially when it came to WCW buying up their talent/trying to put them "out of business". Completely ignoring the fact that Vince cherry picked talent from the territories before eventually running them out of business.

I'm reading "reports" that the crowd at the house show in Leeds tonight were being dicks and heckling various wrestlers for apparently no reason.

I've read that they chanted "you can't wrestle" to Justin Gabriel and also to Goldust. They also gave Sami Zayn the old "Who are ya!?" treatment too.

I don't know if these are "legit" or if he's just playing into being a heel, even though I don't actually know if he's a heel or not these days, but after the event, Gabriel went on Twitter and said:

Supposedly its because they see several Cena-like comparisons to the point they can completely mold his career like they did with Cena. Like Cena, less worry about him leaving for better things like films or indies claiming any part of his popularity unlike with Ambrose and Rollins.

Already dead set on having another Cena type era with just 1 mega star and probably something that won't change even with another WWE Universe rebellion.

Edit: Nevermind, turns out people on Twitter were mocking the WWE for what they were doing earlier. Just timed it right so it would seem legit.

Watching SuperBrawl '98 and I'm always amazed by how underrated of "ring generals" Booker T and Perry Saturn were. In the opener, Rick Martel was supposed to beat Booker to set up a match with Saturn immediately after that he would also win. But during the match Martel tore his MCL and they had to improvise a finish that had Booker win the match and the TV Title. Then, he and Saturn had to improvise an entire match that was never even supposed to happen, and it was good. Not blow-you-away good, but damn impressive considering they didn't even know they were going to have a match five minutes before it started.

And then Tony Schiavone says that there's an unadvertised match coming up that will "literally make the Cow Palace explode."

I feel like I would remember that.

Also, Nick Patrick looks like Danny McBride.

Stating the obvious, but holy God was Goldberg over! He's not even against anybody that matters (Brad Armstrong), but they are popping like crazy no matter what he does. For a decade, nobody outside the main event has been as over in WWE like this guy was in prelim matches.

So I got asked to take a WWE survey today as I live in the UK, and it's pretty much the same survey that was being "talked about" a few days ago when people saw that TNA was mentioned.

I have screencaps but they're huge, so they'll be in spoiler tags along with the rest of my post.

SPOILER: show
TNA was mentioned in the UK survey too, but also, some reason, they also asked if I was interested in Cirque de Soleil.

SPOILER: show
I was then asked who my favourite guys on the roster were, and I noticed that Christian wasn't included on the list, along with Paul Heyman, William Regal and Zeb Colter, but then again, all those guys apart from Christian are managers/GM's, so maybe they don't qualify as a "WWE Superstar" for some reason?

As for Christian, as far as I know, he's still technically a "WWE Superstar", he just hasn't had a match in forever.

SPOILER: show
Next, I was asked about the Legends. I was quite surprised that they're labelling Chyna, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Kelly Kelly and Stacy Keibler as Legends. At least at this point in time. I'm pretty sure we'll eventually see the first three names make in into the Hall of Fame, and maybe Keibler too.

My biggest surprise was Kelly Kelly being listed as a Legend. Also, I added Billy Gunn to the "Other" section, as Road Dogg was listed, but Gunn wasn't for some reason. I also added The British Bulldog and Steve Blackman.

SPOILER: show
The last question was kind of "salt in the wound" for me.

Will Thor take his hammer and go home..?

Punk at Marvel: "I can't wait to get into a story with the guy with the blonde hair and sledgehammer!"

Punk at WWE:"...but I don't wanna get into a story with the guy with blonde hair and a sledgehammer!"

Yup, he even got my dad interested in wrestling for a bit during his streak run.
