Disney Infinity is dead.

Skylanders wins the war...........for now.

Emperor Smeat 05-10-2016 06:08 PM

Is Lego Dimensions still around?

If so, pretty much between them and Skylanders for the Gaming Figurines War until Nintendo makes their own big Amiibo based game.

ClockShot 05-10-2016 06:15 PM

I'd assume so. Ever since the boom in popularity in the company in general, they're around.

But you're right. Skylanders now got the market pretty much cornered until (if they want to) Nintendo takes Amiibo to the next level.

Today's News:
1) Some more details regarding ClockShot's post above as Disney has dropped their gaming division, Avalanche Software studio is set to be shut down soon, and around 300 employees have been laid off. Main reason is due to a $147 million overall loss the company revealed in their recent fiscal report for their gaming division.

Kinda sucks for Infinity. Loved the Star Wars and Avengers stuff they did. Maybe I will actually buy it if it goes on sale now for my son. He has a shit ton of Skylanders and has wanted Infinity for some time.

Disturbed316 05-11-2016 01:38 AM

Surprised and not surprised by the Disney news. Those things were expensive to buy and that whole genre seems to have died out a bit like the plastic music instrument genre.

Yeah, definitely had its 15 minutes

drave 05-11-2016 08:56 AM

Skylanders are still very popular and I don't see them fading out anytime soon. My son plays the hell outta the games, and some of them are actually really fun.

Decent article on Lionhead at Eurogamer.

Quote:

"I think we all know now - it's out in the open - that I'm a complete twat," Molyneux says
Quote:

"At E3 2003, Peter Molyneux did a press interview about Fable. In it he announced multiplayer for the game. Developers back at Guildford watched in horror. No-one had heard anything about multiplayer. One engineer, we were told, was close to tears. When Molyneux returned, he faced the full wrath of a stressed and exhausted development team. The Carters raised their flame shields. Don't worry, they said. We'll work it out."
Quote:

Molyneux's other directive: Fable 2 must have a dog. And that dog must die.

"We had a meeting," McCormack recalls. "We'd not seen him in weeks because he had other things on. He opened the door, walked in and goes, the hero has a dog, and it dies. And then he left and we didn't see him again for another month. We were like, what the fuck? That was it. That was the direction."
Quote:

How much money? One high-ranking Lionhead source says $75m was spent on Fable Legends - a gargantuan amount for a free-to-play game.
Quote:

"Peter could do what he wanted and he could say no to Microsoft about almost anything. He had that power, and when he left we suddenly felt a bit more vulnerable."

As Lionhead changed, so did Microsoft. As head of Xbox, Don Mattrick had installed a new ethos for Microsoft's next console, the Xbox One, that would stray away from the core gamer audience and toward a more casual audience who might watch live telly on their console. After Molyneux left, Phil Harrison, once of Sony, came in to run Microsoft's European operation. The times, they were a changin'.

What Randy "I'm a magician so watch Aliens disappear to another developer" Pitchford neglected to say is that Borderlands sold like shit in the first week then popularity exploded a few weeks later. Battleborn is going the opposite way and already losing players on Steam despite debuting less than Evolve or even Brink.

Also worth noting that in all of Europe, of fails to outsell Ratchet and Clank on a single formst, which is in it's 3rd week of sales.

EDIT: There's more people playing Borderlands 2 than this right now on the steam stats even.

Totally agree. I'm all for remasters of the PS2 era and before getting HD makeovers, but last gen... No thanks. Big exception is where there's not a PC version and they can up the framerate. Last of Us was so much better in 60fps.

In regards to the Batman Arkham remastered set, some of the images leaked do look better than the originals but some also look way worse.

Being speculated Chinese developer Virtuous is just porting the PC version straight into Unreal 4 and then quickly porting it again to PS4 and Xbox One without doing any real port work needed since its meant to be a cheap cash grab.

Had they used the Xbox 360 and/or PS3 as the basis and done real porting work, the jump in quality likely would have been a lot better or smoother.

It's not speculation, that's the people doing it. They just made everything on FFX sharp and didn't give a fuck if it was hair or whatever. Now they're doing it again.

The worst part is that it isn't a cheap cash grab; Unreal Engine 3 is fine on PS4/Xb1... They're porting it to a new engine and just fucking it up in the process.

ClockShot 05-26-2016 06:41 PM

If No Man's Sky is delayed until July, then that's cool. But if it goes to August, I just can't have that. As it will clash with precious Deus Ex: Mankind Divided playing time.

drave 05-26-2016 06:43 PM

Now THAT is an actual fucking power disparity that would be noticeable.

Fignuts 05-26-2016 06:48 PM

the fuck is a terraflop

Also, fucking god damn mother fucking christ @ No Man's Sky delay. Blah blah blah "delays are always a good thing in the end." I don't care. I want to play that shit NOOOOOOWWWW

drave 05-26-2016 06:49 PM

A teraflop is a measure of a computer's speed and can be expressed as: A trillion floating point operations per second. 10 to the 12th power floating-point operations per second. 2 to the 40th power flops

drave 05-26-2016 06:50 PM

Current PS4's clock around 1.8 teraflops I think..... something right around there.

drave 05-26-2016 06:51 PM

A bit more info that may explain better....

Quote:

Microsoft is reportedly targeting a 6 teraflops peak power for Xbox One Scorpio, which puts it ahead of PlayStation 4 Neo’s reported 4.14 teraflops target. Teraflops is way of measuring overall computational power, but doesn’t necessarily tell us specific details like the type of GPU used, CPU speeds etc.

Fignuts 05-26-2016 06:53 PM

Wait a minute, kotaku is reporting this?

Well they're consistantly full of shit, so....

drave 05-26-2016 06:54 PM

While it is true that the GPU details, etc. aren't yet available, having a considerable power advantage allows for them to have more flexibility with the rest of the hardware without having to compromise too much.

With DX12 around the corner and also being pushed, graphic whores (and/or PS4 fanboys) will be eating crow.

Personally, I don't get miffed about 1080 native vs upscaled or anything else. I am a bit miffed at the new system being done so soon and more or less following a typical "mobile phone" upgrade schedule. Had this been known at the start of this gen, I would have just spent the $$$ on a PC and still been ahead of the curve.

Kotaku don't screw around with tech talk so you can trust them here.

All this talk of power, however, is moot to me unless devs fucking do something about it.

If Halo 5 can't rerelease with splitscreen for instance; whatever.

Electronic Arts is betting big on its resurgent Mirror's Edge franchise with a live action television series in the works.

The show will be produced by Endemol Shine Studios. While the name may be most recognisable to British viewers as the company behind reality show Big Brother, Mirror's Edge will be handled by its scripted series wing, responsible for dramas such as Kingdom and Hell on Wheels.

The Mirror's Edge games follow Faith, an undercover rooftop courier known as a Runner.

Played first-person, Faith uses parkour skills to navigate an oppressive, corporate-run dystopian future state.

It's likely the TV series will mirror this, although there are no confirmed details on cast, setting, or any changes that may be made in switching medium. Hollywood trade site Deadline currently only describes the series as being "a female-centred action series".

If Endemol Shine goes for an accurate translation of the cast and setting, Mirror's Edge would be one of, if not the, first western sci-fi series to be headlined by an Asian woman.

Its potential for big action scenes as Faith darts around city skylines and battles corporate security could attract the same audiences that flocked to the likes of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and Alias.

"We clearly see Mirror's Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience," said Sharon Hall, president of Endemol Shine Studios, via statement. "It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing."

The original Mirror's Edge game was released in 2008, and while it never quite became a break-out hit, it attracted a cult following.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, due for release next month on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, serves as a soft reboot, exploring Faith's origins and delving further into the politics of her world. It also does away with the clunky shooting mechanics of the first game while allowing for more freedom to explore an open world. The result is a thrilling free-run experience that finally lives up to the original's promise.

While further information on the TV show is yet to be revealed, EA yesterday released the new 'Why We Run' trailer for Catalyst.

At present, there is no release date for the Mirror's Edge TV series.

Dumb reason not to make a game really. If they make it, the locales, etc. historically accurate, it can teach quite a bit.

I learned many new words growing up playing RPG's. That was before voice acting though.... so probably not the same effect.

One of the most wonderful 8-bit platformers, Wonderboy: The Dragons Trap is getting a remake. Sega has once again hired a talented fanboy like they did for the Sonic games to update them but keep them feeling the same, but man, they've gone several steps further on this one.
