He just posted that then for clout, that is kind of his M.O.

Again, while you may possibly be spot on, (still missing context. What was going on in/around the time this was posted?) it's another one of those things attributed solely to Punk for some weird reason. He isn't the first, he isn't the last, and the folks he is in opposition to are the kings of it, but none of that gets mentioned. Especially not by his detractors.

Ahh possibly. Be interesting if they try to keep the Collision feel without having to load everyone on the show to build toward a PPV. Not interesting enough for me to watch, but interesting enough to read about.

That’s not a knock on Punk so much as it’s an indictment of the sad state AEW is in.

There may be a car wreck element. The shows are not likely to hold since Punk was the driving force behind their logic.

Let's look at the college football games that are this week. So ESPN has some prime time games and ABC has their main telecast for the week.

Marquee ESPN game: Texas versus Alabama. Two top 15 teams

Marquee Fox Game: Oregon versus Texas Tech.

Marquee ABC Game: Wisconsin versus Washington State.

Look at where the games are being played. The South, The Northwest, and some of the midwest. The West will still be at 5-7pm which means very few people will be home to watch TV. The East Coast will be devoted to watching football.

If Collison gets more than 400k this week, I will be STUNNED.

It's not like people are going to go crazy over the finals of their tournament being Roderick Strong versus potentially Samoa Joe or Penta. Not exactly going to be the casual fan that flocks to TNT to watch that.

And this week is considered to be a "dead" week in terms of matchups for college football. And again, while this might be beating a dead horse, even though this was considered a "soft" brand split, they do not have a World Championship for Collision. Punk's title (while basically his "own" title that he never lost) may not have been an official world title, it was still a major championship.

If the number does collapse, it’s kind of fortunate for Punk. I’d expect the number to go down anyway, losing their biggest star and the closest thing they’ve got to a good booker. But he gets to exit just as shit gets way harder anyway.

Mr. Nerfect 09-07-2023 01:22 PM

Just looked up their tournament. Roderick Strong vs. Samoa Joe actually looks like it is a Dynamite match. The Collision matches are going to be the semis.

I heard Punk personally ran the pyro for Collision and cooked all the catering so no more pyro and the talent will now starve.

The aftermath of the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at All In continues, claiming another victim from the company's behind the scenes operation.

According to PWInsider, AEW producer and coach Ace Steel has once again been released in the wake of CM Punk's dismissal last weekend, receiving notice earlier today. This marks the second time Steel has been let go from AEW following an incident backstage — and involving CM Punk.

Steel was initially fired after the infamous fracas that erupted following 2022's All Out. Punk's comments during the post-show media scrum led to some sort of brouhaha with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. In the room with Punk where it transpired, Steel got involved, allegedly biting Omega in the midst of the skirmish.

As one of the conditions of Punk's return to AEW earlier this year, Steel was rehired, which included the compromise of Steel not being physically present backstage during shows, particularly "AEW Collision," but being allowed to produce through Zoom calls. Steel was not in London at this year's All In for the latest confrontation.

Reports indicate that there had been talks as of late about giving Steel something else to do, with AEW looking into allowing him to train talents somewhere in Florida. But in light of his exit, that is no longer the case. Steel had previously trained CM Punk, and also worked as a trainer and producer for WWE prior to ever joining AEW.

This could be the start of something. Tony opens Collision letting people know he's fired Ace Steel "with cause" painting himself as the hero but being received as the villain like Vince with "Bret screwed Bret". Then he can feud with MJF.

Sepholio 09-07-2023 07:31 PM

While I wouldn't be against having an evil authority figure role, TK just doesn't seem capable of being that. He doesn't have the look or the demeanor for it.

Ben Rodrigues 09-07-2023 07:36 PM

That's why it will work! Like I imagine his heel work would him being whiny, stressed and constantly complaining that it isn't fair and people should like him!

On the latest "Wrestling With Freddie" podcast, actor/former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. talked about the CM Punk firing from AEW. Prinze did not have favorable things to say about Punk and noted that his interactions with Punk in WWE were not good. Scroll down to listen to the entire podcast.

"What can I say here? Okay. I'm friends with some of the people that he's had an issue with, first and foremost, so I should get that out of the way so everyone goes, 'Oh, Prinze is biased'. Yeah, I'm biased, but I will say this. When you keep doing the same thing over and over, and you keep blaming everyone else, and it's the world's fault, right, like that Alessia Cara song, 'You don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart.' The world ain't going to change for you or for nobody and the world don't owe you sht. It's your responsibility as a human being to find out your place in this world and make the absolute most of it, but the world doesn't owe you a damn thing, and a lot of people end up in a similar situation every single time because they keep behaving a certain way that turns people off. It's really hard to piss people off. It's really easy to make them feel good. At a certain point, I think you have to turn that finger towards yourself and say, 'Okay, what is it about me? What am I doing wrong', or you have to have someone, a therapist, a wife, a best friend, who calls you on your sht, who says, 'Yo, man. This is the third time, the third time, the third time. How many more before you figure out that this might be more of a you problem and less of a them problem?'"

"I know there's going to be a lot of our listeners who disagree with me, you know, I respect where you're coming from. I get it. You love him and a lot of the young people you might think are soft and maybe you think he's tough. I get it. I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I'm just trying to let you know where I'm coming from based off my experience with him, like, he wasn't a nice guy to me and it would have been easy to be nice to me, and instead he would just blow me off every time I walked by when I worked there, and I was never going to work with him because he didn't need my help. So I was always like, why are you going out of your way to be a d*ck to me if you and I are never going to work together? Ever, ever.

"I hate to sound cold and brutal like that, but I've talked about the Federation that I want to start here. I've spoken to professional wrestlers and said, 'Hey, man, would you be down to help me out if I'm doing this?' I'm not joking. Every single wrestler that I reached out to but one said, 'Anything you need. I would love to help you. Just don't hire Phil', and this is over 10. It's over 10, okay, and only one didn't say anything and I don't know how they feel about the guy, but everybody else was like, 'Don't hire Punk. Please don't hire Punk. Dude, I'll help you out, but if you hire Punk, I'm out.' Like, it was everybody and that has to be a mirror that causes you to go, 'Yeah, dude, it's time to change.' At least that's what I think, and again, if you disagree with me out there, I got nothing but love for you. I may not agree with your take, but I respect it. I know. Everybody loves him and he's one of the best to ever do this wrestling thing."

This ones for Jeff Peterson. He passed away on Friday last week. Another person i'll never wrestle, somebody I won't be able to learn from. Maybe that's a selfish way to look at it, but that's how I see it. I never knew him, but it sucks that he's gone.
I was going to update this but all I can do is think about Chinese food. Maybe tomorrow.....

Here's to you Jeff...

Splaya 09-08-2023 09:50 AM

I believe in a lot of what FJP says. He speaks from what he knows and tends not to bullshit people.

I believe him when he says that other people would want to start something wrestling related but want to make sure that CM Punk has nothing to do with it. Phil has created this aura about him that he is cancerous and it is true now. It is disappointing because he does have a great mind for the business but at the same time, he cannot stay out of his own way.

I mentioned in the politics thread that scripted life tends to mirror real life. For Phil, that 100% stands true. He was the type of anti-authority figure who tried to bend the rules as much as possible when he was in WWE, dropping promos that blurred the lines between shoot and work. Now he's in a tough spot with AEW but more of being a backstage problem (although he doesn't have to worry about being that problem anymore).

What's lost in all this is what could have happened had Punk not torn his tricep and been out for 8-9 months. The suspension would have ended sooner so do we see Punk hurting AEW in March and April instead of during the summer or would he have worked past his differences right away. Even though Punk was rehabbing the injury, he should have had Punk and the Elite meet LAST YEAR and resolved this, instead of letting it fester for 9 months. All he did was put a band aid on an open wound that needed stitches to close the issue.

Weird how every problem in AEW comes back to the idiot owner who doesn't, you know, "be a boss".

Sepholio 09-08-2023 10:02 AM

In terms of scripted life mirroring real life, CM Punk would be the equivalent of a "sovereign citizen".
