The OP music is fucking boss. Kinda too boss for this anime. Hate the parasite's 'casual talk' design. Very jarring.

The dub for the latest season of The Seven Deadly Sins is finally released on Netflix for anyone interested.

Destor 08-07-2020 07:13 PM

yeah im doing a rewatch now so itll be a week or so but im very hyped

ClockShot 08-16-2020 08:13 AM

Currently watching:
The Misfit of Demon King Academy - Not bad. Think Harry Potter meets demons. With some mysteries.

Monster Girl Doctor - Sorta kinda spinoff of Monster Musume. But down to earth and not as crazy.

Getting back into:
Appare-Ranman! - New episodes coming back on a weekly basis.

Strike The Blood - Time table on new episodes on this is weird. 2 new episodes released a couple weeks ago. The next aren't coming out until September. Must still have issues from Covid on their end.

Shadow 08-16-2020 09:20 AM

How is Monster Girl Doctor? Still as haremy as Musume?

AT&T sells Crunchyroll to Funimation. Which is owned by Sony, for $1.2 billion.

Been getting into Dr. Stone.

Such a great show.

Sepholio 01-28-2021 11:50 PM

Yes very glad Dr Stone is coming back any day now. One of my favorite anime. Also stokes that that time I got reincarnated as a slime is back. Also attack on titan is back for the final season. And most importantly the promised neverland is back and that is seriously one of the best shows ever. Its up there with Made in Abyss for me.

Shadow 01-29-2021 09:55 AM

I kinda want "I don't want to get hurt so I put all my points in defense" to come back soonish. Was such a good wholesome show.

Destor 01-29-2021 10:15 AM

its a real good time. last year had a ton of gpod new IPs

Helmsphere 01-29-2021 11:04 AM

And My Hero Academia will be back at the end of March

Sepholio 01-30-2021 10:59 PM

So I find myself really loving this new show called SK8 the Infinity. Never thought I'd enjoy a skateboarding anime so much.

Tom Guycott 02-08-2021 12:50 AM

Because of the recent hype around it, I started watching Redo of Healer.

I'm already conflicted. The psycological violence that happens isn't really my thing, but I get it for the purpose of the story. Also, the visual editing to me is hilarious. It is almost like they're intentionally trying to hit every trope to do it: character/item blocking, sun lines, crop and zoom, masking +50% of the screen with "shadow" bar, looping fill shots (with and without dialogue), and static screens to still fill in the episode time without much of what would obviously be there.

I'm sure I can go find an unedited version online right now, but I don't want to. I want to see how far this dub goes as is.

Destor 02-27-2021 12:35 AM

Sony is currently facing an extended antitrust probe by the U.S. Justice Department in regards to their planned purchase of Crunchyroll for around $1.2 billion.

The U.S. Justice Department has extended its antitrust review of Sony’s proposed $1.2 billion acquisition of anime-streaming service Crunchyroll from AT&T’s WarnerMedia, according to three people familiar with the process.

The probe, which could delay the sale by several months and potentially kill it, seeks to determine if the deal would give Sony dominance in the anime-streaming market, these people said. Sony in recent years has acquired a number of anime distributors and streaming services, including Funimation, Crunchyroll’s main U.S. rival. Meanwhile, viewer demand for anime has surged during the pandemic. Netflix has been expanding its anime offerings as well.

While anime is a relatively niche market—Crunchyroll had 4 million subscribers in February, a fraction of the numbers for mass-market streaming services like Netflix and Disney+—Sony doesn’t own any streaming services in the U.S. other than Funimation. That sets it apart from other major TV and film studios, most of which are now allied with streaming services. For that reason, the deal is strategically important for the Japanese electronics and entertainment giant.

really good so far. the fights are gorgeously animated.

bigdaddysuperfreak 03-29-2021 10:14 AM

ClockShot 05-03-2021 06:54 AM

A couple weeks ago I finished off Maoyu Mao Yusha. Solid series.

I blasted through The Rising of the Shield Hero and finished that last night. Good stuff and season 2 is looking better this fall.

Kicking around either High Rise Invasion over on Netflix or I'll check out Darwin's Game.

I like the concept that this takes parallell universes into account both from the Earth standpoint and in the fantasy kingdom. Seems less "reincarnation" and more Neverending Story.

I recently went though That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. Dumbass name, but it was a fucking joy.

ClockShot 05-19-2021 10:55 AM

Finished off Darwin's Game this morning.

Cool concept. And I like where it's going. But, I'm getting the vibe it's going to be a 1-and-done anime series.

Started 86. The mechs and rag tag squadron concept. Dig it so far.

Shadow 05-20-2021 09:06 AM

08th MS Team is one of the best war animes I've ever seen. Not to mention one of the best limited Gundam series out there.

ClockShot 05-20-2021 07:55 PM

Gundam 08th.

God. Wasn't that on Toonami years ago for like a hot minute? I know Wing and G got all episodes aired.

Sepholio 05-20-2021 08:44 PM

Wing and G were my shit. God I miss 2000-01 toonami afternoons lol. Dragonball, Gundam, Tenchi, Yuyu Hakusho. Those were good times.

Fignuts 05-20-2021 10:56 PM

Yeah, 08th was on toonami. Honestly, all the gundam OVA's are fantastic. So much better than the TV series.

And I've rewatched Gundam Wing. It doesn't really hold up. A lot of the dialogue is laughably cringy. lol there's one guy in the earlier episodes who yells everything he says. It's fucking hilarious.

Wing was definitely a "time and place" thing. It was better than most of the shit that crossed the pond for mainstream consumption merely from the fact that it wasn't something being aired to coast off of Pokemon's stardom. Led a charge against the "strictly for kids or comedy" attitude about cartoons this side of the Pacific.

Sepholio 06-10-2021 01:51 AM

Wing and G had some of the best Gundam designs they've had imo.

Sepholio 06-10-2021 03:02 PM

Maybe im confused about G, I thought that was the direct follow up to gundam wing......cuz that for sure aint the one I thought

Sepholio 06-10-2021 03:48 PM

Ok so I was just confuzzled all around being thats its been 20 years since I watched the series in question but I think I have now figured it out. Pretty sure the series I was thinking of besides Wing was actually SEED. It was definitely a more space oriented series.

Fignuts 06-10-2021 08:16 PM

Honestly, I do like the hyper stylized designs of stuff like Wing, Seed, and 00, but y favorite mobile suit designs by far, are the ones that look like war machines rather than mecha fashion show participants.

Sepholio 06-10-2021 08:33 PM

I think I favor the fashionistazords because the series they tend to come from are the more futuristic space oriented affairs and I prefer those over the more terrestrial war leaning series.

Shadow 06-11-2021 09:52 AM

G is very well received because it's such a break from the bog standard Gundam show. It's still a war story but it's very Super Robot rather then Real Robot. And Wing is popular because of the Pretty Bois.

Seed's popular because of the robot designs and that's about it. Like you look at the Strike and tell me you don't want to pilot that. Look me in the eye and say you don't.

Sepholio 06-11-2021 10:23 PM

I just found out that the episode of Black Clover I just watched is the series finale. Even with all that filler they still ran through all the source material. Left it hanging on one of the worst cliffhangers I've ever seen. No way you walk away thinking you just watched the last episode. Feels like a season premiere if anything. Hate watching a long anime that gets canned before it's done. This is like the feeling when Bleach ended originally. Only took like 10 years to get a new season of that.

Sepholio 06-11-2021 10:26 PM

It's exactly like bleach actually. They hung it up right at the start of the ultimate arc of the story just like Bleach with the Thousand Year Blood War.

It definitely peaked with the soul society arc, but the arrancar arc was still good. Thousand year war arc should be fun as well.

Fignuts 06-11-2021 11:59 PM

Fullbringer arc was shit, however.

Sepholio 06-12-2021 05:11 AM

Yeah the fullbring arc was the worst in the series. A lot of people think the Bount arc was the worst but I actually didn't think it was bad. It was just weird.

I think the arrancar/hueco mundo arcs were my favorite honestly. Out of all the antagonists in the series Ulquiorra was always my favorite, followed by Grimmjow. The scene where Orohime yells at Ichigo to not die and he finally gets his shit together and obliterates Grimmjow is probably the best scene in the series imo.

ClockShot 06-18-2021 07:52 PM

Hoping this Sunday there's a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig payoff to 86 to get me to watch the 2nd half of this season whenever that rolls round. Mostly depressing, but the last couple episodes have really been good.

Sepholio 07-13-2021 05:21 PM

Yeah the Junji Ito Collection is wild. Wish it would have had more episodes to work with so they could have fleshed out some of the stories a bit more though. Regardless it is a unique and disturbing watch and I highly recommend.

Dunno why I never watched it before but I started Megalobox and I really like the story telling work being done in this series.

ClockShot 07-22-2021 05:20 PM

Typically avoid the Chinese animes. But Everyday Life of the Immortal King is rather fun on Netflix. You can blast through it in a day since the episodes are 15-20 minutes each. Which sorta stinks.

ClockShot 08-10-2021 04:52 PM

The Crunchyroll-Funimation merger is complete. The final price tag was $1.175 billion dollars.

The U.S. Department of Justice was looking into it as the deal might have violated antitrust laws or be looked as a monopoly. No issues

There's a report from Eurogamer that Crunchyroll may get lumped in as a Playstation Plus perk. But you may be charging more for PS+ membership if that happens.

https://www.ign.com/articles/crunchy...nimation-anime

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...chyroll-buyout

Sepholio 08-16-2021 09:27 AM

They can lump the anime services into PS+ and charge more. I'm cool with that. Will prob actually save me money since I currently pay for all 3 of them seperately.

Moving on, Megalobox 2: Nomad was awesome. Probably better than the first. End was a bit of a letdown in some ways but I understand why they went the direction they did.

Starting The Dungeon of Black Company. Yet another Isekai show as they continue to takeover the market the way the Shonen shows used to. This one seems kinda different though as the character they transport to another world is a greedy ass corporate taskmaster and he goes into this other world and is instantly made a low tier miner. It's about his hugely inflated ego and corporate skills and him trying to translate those into this new world to pay off the insane debt he accrued when he first arrived by taking out loans in an attempt to replicate the lavish style he was plucked away from.

Helmsphere 08-16-2021 11:13 PM
