I did not expect McAfee to have the match that he did. I thought he did exceptionally well for his first time in the ring.
Hated the Jackass crap. But I'm not a fan of silly stuff. Those guys annoy me to no end |
Fun stuff. World will be a better place when Vince is dead.

Night 2 has kinda felt like a Triller PPV. It's been a lot of fun but not a great "wrestling show", but decent enough so far. Personally the Edge/AJ match bored me and I got tired so it took a while for me to get back into the show.
Last night was awesome and all time tops in a lot of ways. I think I'd have said that about night 1 last year too though. This main event will really make or beak this 2nd day for me. |
Roman’s entrance length makes even the Undertaker blush
I might be the biggest Lesnar mark on the forum but I hope Reigns wins tonight.

This should be good, calling it the biggest WM match of all time before it ever happens though reeks of marketing Edge vs Orton as the greatest match of all time.

Two big meaty lads throwing bombs is the way to go with this
lol "Brock loves a slow, methodical pace"
You mean the guy who hits a million Germans and an F5 and generally finishes his matches as soon as possible? |
I should get around to rewatching that first Roman/Brock Mania match which I remember being this incredibly gritty, cool take on what a Mania main event could look like to see how I feel about it now. I mean, I probably won't, but watching this thing definitely makes me want to.
finally finished my "capstone project" for masters degree...
Fuck yeah! Roman Reigns wins
damb that felt boring...
hmm
Did I just hear Roman's old theme a bit before the replay?
Wonder how owenbrown feels about this?
I haven't really watched since pre-covid.....Roman is still boring as fuck.
Cody should come out and challenge!

Roman was on track to beat Goldberg for the title at WM36, but he understandably decided to stay home during the first few months of COVID. He then won the title basically as soon as he came back.
I have to think the heel turn is one of those things they always planned eventually and it probably would've happened around the same time he actually did it (SummerSlam). So it's not inconceivable he'd be two full years into the his title run by this point. Could quite easily see him actually getting to that mark as is. Dude deserves it. |

So with WrestleMania 38 now fully complete, and the result of the main event known, here's what's in my head about that now.
Roman Reigns will not have his time on top continue all the way to WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium on April 1-2, 2023. Between now and then, he will drop the title to someone. He will then get the title back, and then go into Mania 39 as champ. I'm thinking that the WWE Hall of Fame headline inductee will be The Rock. But I also think that he will face Roman for the title in the overall main event on Night 2. The Rock won't beat Roman, and then the next night on Raw, The Rock will announce his full retirement from professional wrestling, and then leave to return to Hollywood permanently. Then, Paul Heyman will betray Roman, cost him the title, and return Roman to babyface status, as the one Paul will align with will become the new champion. As for Brock Lesnar right now, I'm thinking that he will retire from in-ring competition soon, and spend a long layoff at his home. When he comes back, I see him possibly being the WWE Hall of Fame headline inductee during the weekend of WrestleMania 40 in 2024. He might have one last match then, but on that, my mind is 70-30 against. I don't know whether to say WrestleMania 38 was good or bad, but I will say, as is the case with all Manias, that it was an insane 2-night ride. And here's hoping that Cody Rhodes can A] become World Champ within the next 2 years, and B] he tells Vince in the ring to truly take the Forbidden Door apart, and agree to a Pro Wrestling/Sports Entertainment World Series, which I see as a 14-day event in the summer. But, yeah....WrestleMania's now done, and we wait for the Raw After Mania tomorrow. =P |
By 40 they’ll figure out how to have holograms wrestle and bring back Andre, Hogan, etc. to wrestle some YouTube celebrities.

Very fun 2 nights.
Liked Triple H getting the chance come out and get a proper sendoff. Feel like Stone Cold caught Vince in the nuts on the Stunner setup kick. How crazy is it that Vince McMahon had a match more recently than Triple H. The Jackass stuff was pure comedy, and Sami continues to be the shining example of an entertainer. None of the tag matches were much to remember. Edge vs AJ was a great match, loved them both selling injuries the whole match. Bobby Lashley is pretty awesome. Butch seems to be playing a version of early Hornswoggle where he is always trying to get involved and Sheamus has to hold him back. Glad Roman won, but would have liked a more definitive win ala Rock over Stone Cold at Mania 19. |

Pretty fucking surreal the WWE put together not only one, but two great nights of wrestling. And it seems like they have plenty of stuff set up coming out of it too. You can’t complain about them finally getting good. I hope they keep at it.
Hope they send Steveson immediately to the PC to do some work on his presence. Charisma is a more tricky one, but just having presence is gonna be the first hurdle for him to get over. That’s the difference with a Logan Paul. Could also do with doing some crunches to avoid the Corbin problem.
But the dude is 21.
Quote:
Oh absolutely. I do think presence is usually something that comes naturally though. Confidence will come with experience and maybe confidence is part of presence. It will depend on if WWE can hold back on having him front and centre immediately to capitalise on his Olympic and NCAA wins, in which case I think he’ll pick up some stink like Mark Henry did when he debuted far too soon.
You might be right. I think a difference between him and Mark Henry is that Gable will be able to do the moves and high spots that get the people into his athletic talent. And when he gets used to doing his shit in front of people, and they start to get into him, it might give him more to react to in terms of developing a persona.
He’s going to have Brock, Roman, Heyman and probably a bunch of other guys going out of their way to try and bring it out of him too. |
Chad Gable is a treasure. RKBro should not split up. Let them be a money team. You’ve got Edge & Priest, Styles & Balor, a potential heel run for the Profits. There’s star potential in all these teams. So glad to see tag team wrestling actually mattering.
Gable Steveson is green as goose shit, of course. But this was a pretty smart and special way to introduce him. He’s got the Gable vs. Gable thing and he can look as good as possible when that happens. Bobby Lashley is not someone I would have actually considered a great worker a few years ago. But he’s really got it all together and feels like a top guy. Think it’s good he won this. Omos has a long way to go. He seems to be getting pieces of it. But his look, his work — it all needs to come together a bit better. Omos should be a bodyguard for some heels. Whoever put together the visual idea of Omos making Bobby Lashley look small should be praised. I didn’t think it would look as effective as it did. Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville would not normally be my thing. But holy fuck did they go out there to entertain. It wasn’t as offensive as a lot of other wrestling that tries to be this kind of spectacle can be. It suits Johnny Knoxville to be out there doing this stuff, lol. Knoxville > Zayn > Bryan The women’s tag…I get what they are going for. I get that they all worked hard. They got a bit of time. A face team won and they want us to care about those belts. I can imagine people who like Sasha or want this tag team thing to take off being into this. And yeah, I can see them trying to heat up the division. But multi-team tags are hard tl care about if they don’t have Chad Gable in them. It’s pretty unbelievable Edge is doing what he’s doing. I loved his gear for some reason. AJ’s too. You can tell this meant the world to them and they busted ass. I’m just not that into the story around this yet. That can very easily change with the inclusion of Damian Priest and maybe other players. The New Day got their spot. Second time they’ve lost to Sheamus at Mania. In fact, that happened the last time they were in Texas, didn’t it? Pat McAfee/Austin Theory/Vince McMahon/Steve Austin…just pure electricity. Love that feeling you get when you really want Austin to come out, then he fucking comes out! So easy. Pat McAfee is great. Austin Theory “gets it.” Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar did exactly the sort of match that you would expect from them. 7 years in the making. 20 years if you count Brock beating Rock in 2002 as him striking out against the family. |
When was the last time Lesnar had a match where he wasn't speared through the barricade?
Vs. Theory at MSG? Elimination Chamber. But before that probably vs. Drew at WM36 (although I’m not sure that he didn’t go through it then).
Brock is such a great worker.
Quote:
I wish I enjoyed AJ/Edge more, I just got really tired during that match and almost fell asleep. The main event satisfied me, no complaints. Reports that Roman may be injured legit, you can see his triceps very red and swollen. |
I thought the main event kinda sucked and I don't blame either guy for it at all because they are stellar workers. They were just following the same template they were told to follow.
When Brock first did the German Suplex/finisher spam match back on Cena it totally worked because it was totally unexpected and a complete deviation from the norm. Either guy doing that match with someone like Goldberg also makes total sense because it's Goldberg, he's old and his selling point is his explosiveness, so going right to finishers out of the gate is the best option. But Brock and Roman are both great wrestlers, they don't have to do a finisher spam match. Moreover, they've already done a finisher spam match at Mania 4 years ago, if I recall correctly Roman got hit with like 7 F5s or something. So to do the same kind of match again just felt...meh. WM31 was pretty easily the best of their 3 Mania confrontations IMO. |
My thoughts exactly. The heavy fire, signature/finisher spam thing doesn’t do it for me.
There’s a horrible irony in Boogs’ injury; they used a fake leg injury in the build up to the match only for him to legit blow it out. Poor guy.
Found the lesnar / reigns match good at the start, but went downhill quickly. As soon as the ref was out, it was the "same shit, different night".
Blah. Lackluster finish too. Don't think you need to spam finishers or anything, but you can definitely build the finish better than THAT. |
Everyone gushes over Reigns work, but it is very tired at this point. Shitty CGI Roman going supersayan, Horseteeth, Acknowledge Me, Superman Punch, Spear, "...only 4 men have held the WWE Title longer...", every once in awhile throw in some Uso interference.
Christ, Vince taking that stunner was like a zombie from the walking dead taking one. He nearly gets knocked on his ass by a kick he knows is coming, then stumbles around for a moment or 2 only to totally fail at taking the stunner.
