They keep cancelling Jane Levy sitcoms even though people love them

Damian Rey 2.0 06-10-2021 07:54 PM

Started the Mare of Easttown last night. Lovely little pot boiler lead by Kate Winslet. Guy Pearce and Evan Peters co star. Can’t go wrong with Guy Pearce.

Bad News Gertner 06-20-2021 03:01 PM

I started watching Boardwalk Empire a couple days ago. I stopped watching midway through Season 3 when it was on. Decided to begin at the start of Season 3. I forgot how great this show was. I don't know why I stopped in the first place.

Lock Jaw 06-20-2021 03:18 PM

Season 3 was awesome.... never finished the show though... stopped a few episodes into season 4 and I also don't know why.... maybe because season 3 was so great I was just like "it's done"

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-20-2021 03:35 PM

I'm on to season 4 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

To say it is an animated series, therefore I assume it is/was aimed at kids, it is a surprisingly dark show, and also superior to any of the live-action films (save Rogue One) of recent times.

I'm also around 3 episodes into Nip/Tuck; it is decent enough so far for me to stick with it and see how it develops.

I'm waiting until all the Loki episodes are out before I watch that bad boy.

Lock Jaw 06-20-2021 03:57 PM

I liked the Clone Wars/Godzilla story arc....

Damian Rey 2.0 06-22-2021 03:02 PM

Finished season 1 and now on to season 2 of The Alienest with Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans. Very much a fan so far.

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-24-2021 12:37 PM

Nobody told me I'd see Sophia Bush and Kata Mara snogging on Nip/Tuck; shame on y'all for not telling me! It was a beautiful surprise, though.

Damian Rey 2.0 06-25-2021 02:04 AM

Finished season 2 of the alienist. Loved it. Not quite as strong as the first season, but fun nonetheless. The focus shifted more to Dakota Fanning leading the charge and it was a welcome change.

Onto my next show, Perry Mason.

Seanny One Ball 06-25-2021 05:13 PM

Mythic Quest is funny.

Good name gag with Ian Grimm...
Eye-an...

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-26-2021 07:52 AM

The more I watch Star War: Clone Wars, the more I think Darth Maul would have made a great big bad for the prequel trilogy, instead of going with the shite they did.

Seanny One Ball 06-26-2021 01:14 PM

Star Wars will never be any good

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-27-2021 07:41 AM

If you haven't already, check out Clone Wars; the later seasons (3 and onwards) are so good.

Black Widow 06-27-2021 05:25 PM

Big Shots enjoyed it more than i expected plus Stamos is still hot.

Seanny One Ball 06-30-2021 08:02 PM

Mythic Quest is easily the funniest original show on any streaming service right now.
It’s brilliantly paced so that by the end of season one you love the characters so much that the specials give you a perfect exhale.
Season 2 begins like any superior comedy should, with minor changes!

Anyone who wants to see a polished piece of woke-bait will enjoy it for its use of Rob McElhenney. A master stroke.

Zeeboe 07-01-2021 01:16 PM

I watch Black Hebrew Israelites on YouTube. They’re the only ones who tell the truth.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-01-2021 08:06 PM

Finished Perry Mason. Good stuff with a great cast.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-04-2021 05:43 PM

Just finished Star Wars: Clone Wars. The final four episodes of season 7 are so awesome. If everything in the Star War Universe was like those episodes, it would be so damn epic.

I feel I should rewatch the prequel trilogy, but I know I'll only be disappointed, especially once I to the cringe that is the Anakin/Padme scenes in Episode 2.

I think a series on the criminal underworld of the SW universe would be pretty interesting; I don't know if they are going to touch on that with The Book of Boba Fett, but a series on Darth Maul as a crime lord would be great. I think they would have gone down that root if Solo had been successful, but we'll never know.

I'm going to move on to Star Wars: Rebels, though I may give myself a break for awhile. I'm still in the early stages of season 2 of Nip/Tuck, and I'm going to start the final season of Bosch tomorrow.

Lock Jaw 07-04-2021 06:31 PM

I rewatched the prequels after Clone Wars. It did not get better.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-04-2021 07:55 PM

Bosch final season, bay bay

xrodmuc316 07-10-2021 01:12 AM

Right now, Parks & Rec.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-10-2021 02:42 AM

Seasons 2 and 3 of Parks & Recreation are gold.

Finished the final season of Bosch. As always, the episodes just fly by, but the series finale kind of went out with a fizzle rather than a bang. But, otherwise, an all round classy show that people should check out.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-10-2021 12:59 PM

Never done a full watch through of King of the Hill so doing that now. Halfway through season 1.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-10-2021 01:15 PM

Found myself watching clips of Buffy earlier today; damn, it is still good stuff 20+ years on. Granted, it seems to have been confirmed as of late that Joss Whedon is a piece of shit, but there is no denying how good the Buff was back in the day. I think I'll be re-watching that show.

I'm going back to the early 90s tonight and I'm going to start a re-watch of the Sharpe series.

Seasons 1-5 are pretty much perfect. Then they lose consistency but retain most of the appeal. Enjoyable but not vital.

Savio 07-12-2021 11:48 PM

Latest episode of rick and morty was awful

Supreme Olajuwon 07-13-2021 07:29 AM

I’m on the 5th episode of Season 2 of King of the Hill and I am amazed at how many crimes Hank Hill has already committed. Assault, menacing, vandalism, drug possession, curfew violation, trespassing, providing a minor with cigarettes, harming an endangered species, threatening a child protective services worker. This guy is a clear danger to society.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-13-2021 09:53 PM

Man this show creates such incredible single episode antagonists that I just want murder as hard as I can. Cane Skretteburg and Junie Harper are basically Hitler and Eva Braun.

Tom Guycott 07-14-2021 12:03 AM

Just started the new Leverage. One episode in, and it almost feels like the gang never left. Even writing around the elephant in the room absence of Nate was handled as a charming plot point (as opposed to a heavy handed "Timothy Hutton? Never heard of him" manner). About my only complaint thus far is Noah Wyle's on-again, off-again Louisiana accent. But it's a very small thing. We'll see how the rest of it goes.

Mike Judge is gifted at creating pathos in the midst of tremendous silliness.
He’s actually a genius. I know people overuse the word but Mike Judge definitely is.

Seanny One Ball 07-16-2021 02:50 PM

Have you had the episode where Hank has to entertain a crazy Yankee fellow at his bosses behest and the guy dresses up as a cowboy and riffs on the Dallas theme tune?

That’s just perfect comedy.

Seanny One Ball 07-16-2021 02:53 PM

Peggy’s foot fetish episode is one of the best early ones too.

Honestly I’ve seen the first 5 seasons so many times but it’s exceptional stuff and I quote it often.

Be Ay Be
Be Ay Bo
Be Ay Be Bicky Bi Bo

xrodmuc316 07-17-2021 10:46 PM

KOTH is amazing!

Watched Dr Death on Peacock, was CRAZY that shit actually happened!

Damian Rey 2.0 07-18-2021 12:27 AM

Finished all three seasons of Yellowstone. I’ma sucker for westerns. And while season 1 was solid, seasons 2 and 3 have been stellar. Can’t wait for season 4 in the fall.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-18-2021 03:15 AM

There is some serious scenery porn in that series; I too am looking forward to season 4.

ClockShot 07-18-2021 06:05 AM

Finished Vincenzo on Netflix last night.

South Korea continuing to put out some solid Television.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-18-2021 03:36 PM

Finished watching Loki; watch it, if you haven't.

I've finished rewatching season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and now moving on to season 2. I always forget how great the script was on the show and the chemistry between the leads. I also forgot just how ridiculously cute Sarah Michelle Gellar was back in the late 90s; and also my love for Robia LaMorte (now Robia Scott). Damn.

Blonde Moment 07-18-2021 06:16 PM

Just finished Babylon 5 and am thinking on pulling out my 6 million dollar man collection, Hogan's Hero's or Tracking down a cheap copy of Space 1999

Yes I enjoyed that one. Honestly I’ve enjoyed all of them so far. Almost done with season 2.

I never truly appreciated this show when it first came out. I think now that I’m older I can see what I was missing the first time.

drave 07-23-2021 09:29 AM

Leverage: Redemption

Just learned this is a thing! Love this damn show. DAMNIT HARDISON!!

Lock Jaw 07-25-2021 07:18 PM

Just finished watching The Flash S7.... lol at it culminating in a lightsaber duel (and not in a way that was supposed to be funny... just a super serious moment of speedsters suddenly fighting each other with lightsabers and Barry suddenly being a good swordsman).

This show should probably just end, especially with losing like half its cast and replacing them with uninteresting characters.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-26-2021 02:35 PM

Finished season 2 of Buffy; so fucking good! On to season 3.

I (re)watched season 2 of Sharpe this weekend. By modern standards, the production is small scale and a bit dated, but it is still a quality show, 25+ years on. The intro music gets me every time.

White Lotus on HBO Max

very very funny and twisted -- Steve Zahn and Jennifer Coolidge should get Emmy noms for it IMO

Supreme Olajuwon 07-26-2021 07:23 PM

In the most recent episode, Hank beats up a retarded fellow. And thats the denouement of the story.

This show is wild.

My only nitpick is Noah's sometimey southern accent. He's a better actor than that, c'mon man!

Also sucks that Timothy Hutton got Me Too'd. Great he's cleared of the alligation, but way too late to get back in on this, but that was written around and even adds a major plot driving device.

Here's hoping Sterling makes an appearance.

Also, Elliot apparently has a type: dark, dusky women of dubious ethnicity who can potentially kick his ass/kill him.

Tom Guycott 07-27-2021 01:09 AM

So, I just watched Masters of the Universe: Revolations and have zero idea why a bunch of manbabies exploded mounds of vitriol all over this. I rather enjoyed it, and look foward to the rest of it (since it is only chapter 1, after all). The way it's written seems akin to the Transformers miniseries(es..? More than one) that filled the gap between the Cybertonian Wars and The Autobots crash landing on Earth in The Ark at the beginning of the 80s cartoon.

The only thing I'm unclear on is if in this canon, the 2002 series is also included or not. There is nothing specifically contradictory outside of King Grayskull being a black dude in this one, but he's even DRESSED the same as his appearance in 2002. I mean, Kev went out the way to have Skeletor specifically drop some Langella lines from the Live Action movie, but that was more easter egg than trying to world build. I just want to know if this is going to take a hard left turn and re-establish The Snake Men or something.

I will say, though, the casting is a complete **chef's kiss** and you couldn't have cast a more appropriate Evil-Lyn.

Also, there's a body count here. Like, on the level of Transformers:The Movie, so there's another comparison I just made to one of other big 80s toy franchises that ruled weekday afternoons (or Saturday morning depending where you lived).

Also, in the back of my mind, I wonder if this is going to end up tying into She-Ra. Especially with this whole concept of a "champion".

At any rate, I like it, and I don't get why dudes are blowing a gasket over it. Strikes me as the same people who are butthurt over The Cleveland Guardians.

Lock Jaw 07-31-2021 01:09 AM

Just finished watching Season 1 of Stargirl..... My cable box died when it was airing and I lost the last half of it..... then subsequently forgot it existed until seeing recent promos for the impending second season.....

Really enjoyed it....

SPOILER: show
Wish they hadn't killed off Brainwave Jr. though.... he got the short stick in the comics and an even shorter one here.... too bad because really interesting character...

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-31-2021 03:22 AM

I'm half-way through season 3 of Buffy; still goodness, though I don't think the writing is as sharpe as the previous two seasons.

I'm rewatching the first season of The Witcher at the mo. Now that I have some distance from Witcher 3, I can say that Henry Cavill makes a solid Geralt.

Seanny One Ball 08-01-2021 01:07 AM

I’ve been re-watching Curb Your Enthusiasm in a random seasonal order.
Season 9 is fucking great. Genius comedy.

Lock Jaw 08-04-2021 01:07 AM

Been watching Star Trek for some reason.... for as big a fan as I was growing up I never really watched the original series... seemed "cheesy" to me as a kid....

Now as an adult still seems cheesy but I can appreciate that

weather vane 08-04-2021 02:30 AM

Dave.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-04-2021 01:20 PM

I'm on to season 4 of Buffy; the first episode has Pedro Pascal in an early role as a vampire. Crazy.

Finished season 3 of Sharpe; not as strong as the previous 2 seasons. I will start season 4 at the weekend.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-05-2021 01:11 AM

Sam Elliot is reportedly being cast in a Yellowstone prequel. Sign me the fuck up.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-05-2021 12:18 PM

Sam Elliott is gold, but only when he has a moustache. I saw him in something else, without his moustache, an it was just wrong. Plain wrong.

Seanny One Ball 08-06-2021 01:47 AM

Season 2 of Ted Lasso stinks of shit and it’s only two episodes in.
I knew I must have been vulnerable when I enjoyed the first one so much.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-07-2021 02:20 PM

Hank just got raped by a dolphin.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-07-2021 02:24 PM

And now Hank just threw another guy in the pool so the dolphin could rape him too. And thats the denouement of the story.

This show is wild.

Tom Guycott 08-11-2021 04:42 AM

Started watching Laudermilk. Not quite Shameless, but more hardcore than Becker. I'd say in the ballpark (hey, a pun!) of Brockmire.

Sepholio 08-15-2021 12:15 AM

Listen up. Stop whatever you are watching and go to Netflix and watch Brand New Cherry Flavor. I have no idea wtf I am watching I just know that whatever it is it is one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. I am 2 episodes in and I am simultaneously so intrigued and baffled that I can't even explain wtf I mean. This is just so.....surreal. And unique. There is nothing else I can think of to even compare it to.

K back to watching.

Sepholio 08-15-2021 01:51 AM

what. the. hell is going on omg its like Junji Ito made a baby with Stranger Things and then the baby grew up and formed a human centipede with Species and True Blood and The Ring and Parasyte and god knows what other weird shit while they were all out of their minds on DMT and it somehow resulted in them merging into one Cronenbergesque television creature.

Edit: There's a healthy dose of the Dorohedoro anime in here too.

Sepholio 08-15-2021 01:57 AM

For example:

SPOILER: show
I just watched a girl who had previously been barfing up baby kittens that grow up in a couple days and whose blood gives people spiritual powers instead form some kind of strange neovagina on her side just below her ribcage which she then kinda fingered until she was clearly horny and then birthed one of the kittens from it instead onto the bathroom floor. A few minutes later a Biker zombie comes in to retrieve the kitten for this lady who is some kind of crazy ass DMT witch. Immediately after the biker leaves the girl gets the guy who is with her to fucking fist her new neovagina, before mounting and riding him while he continues to fist her nearly elbow deep.

THIS SHIT IS INEXPLICABLE

Seanny One Ball 08-15-2021 04:23 PM

It sounds like it might be trying too hard or is Japanese and therefore relatively normal.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-15-2021 05:14 PM

Just finished Schitt’s Creek. Very, very good. Don’t know if I’d put it up there as all time great show but I certainly enjoyed myself.

Need a new show now. May just do a rewatch of What We Do In The Shadows before season 3 starts.

slik 08-15-2021 07:05 PM

Looking forward to the finale of White Lotus tonight on HBO...so funny and good

Lock Jaw 08-18-2021 12:59 AM

Watched season finale of Superman & Lois.... overall a good show.... still think they should have got someone better to be Lois. Or just swapped the Lois and Lana actresses.

Right when I started to get used to Lois' lazy eye, I got super freaked out by her massive forehead V-shaped vein

Seanny One Ball 08-18-2021 02:41 PM

Lock Jaw hating on Bitsie Tulloch warms my old black heart.
She is pretty bad... Nearly ruined the excellent “Grimm” show by not staying dead.

rez 08-19-2021 08:34 PM

SurrealEstate....I like it but question if it'll get a 2nd season.

PapaGeorgio 08-20-2021 07:18 PM

Really enjoyed what Kevin Can Fuck Himself did.

Seanny One Ball 09-01-2021 08:59 PM

I started watching “Eastbound & Down”.
It’s so short I’ll finish season 1 before bed. It’s decent so far but there have been a few big laughs and the reviews for the following seasons are a lot stronger so I’ll stick with it.

So far the best bit has been the baseball to the eye. I liked that a lot.

Also, Katie Mixon is a really strange type of hot. She looks very soft, like you’d be very very warm if you so much as hugged her.

Jordan 09-01-2021 10:48 PM

Kate Mixon very thick and hot.

Eastbound is one of the funniest shows ever. It has some fucking legendary scenes.

Sepholio 09-02-2021 09:22 AM

Now that Manifest has been picked up for a 4th season I have gone back and decided to watch the rest of it. Decided not to continue originally when they announced it was over after season 3. Didn't see a point in getting attached to a show I know was never going to have a conclusion.

OssMan 09-03-2021 12:20 AM

Theres a part in eastbound and down where kenny powers says "disaster emergency" which I thought was funny, then Andrew Cuomo used the term like two weeks ago...

Lock Jaw 09-03-2021 12:54 AM

Been binge watching season 2 of Lego Masters for whatever reason....

Seanny One Ball 09-03-2021 12:55 AM

It’s because you are a sad bastard.

Lock Jaw 09-03-2021 12:57 AM

Nice. I'll use it.

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-03-2021 01:45 PM

I continue my rewatch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I just finished 'Once More with Feeling' (Season 6); that episode still holds-up 20 years on.

I'm also rewatching 30 Rock at the moment as well; on to season 2. I think Liz Lemon might be my perfect woman.

Lock Jaw 09-04-2021 12:14 AM

All caught up in the season of Lego Masters.... love Will Arnett.... also "PrettyCool" what these people can build via Lego...

Lock Jaw 09-04-2021 01:11 AM

Finally watched the first episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch

These seem like the worst, least interesting characters to pick to focus a show around.

Fignuts 09-05-2021 01:30 PM

What we do in the shadows season 3

Hasn't lost a step

Seanny One Ball 09-05-2021 02:48 PM

It hasn’t even been advertised here yet but it’s already out.

Fucking hell no wonder everybody overlooks it.

Seanny One Ball 09-05-2021 06:56 PM

Watching WWDITS now.

It’s good to be back.

Seanny One Ball 09-05-2021 07:09 PM

There should be more British/American comedies. WWDITS plays off of misunderstandings so well, both generational and social.

Seanny One Ball 09-05-2021 07:15 PM

“I’ll wank my way, and you wank yours.”

Matt Berry is the only actor going who could give you that room to laugh.
Great shit.

Bad News Gertner 09-06-2021 12:04 AM

Crime and Penalites on Netflix. Watched the one on the Danbury Trashers. I knew the story but wow was it good

Seanny One Ball 09-06-2021 08:41 AM

Nearly finished Eastbound & Down. It’s funny but it has no relief to it. It’s celebrating an arsehole and his mistakes.

Seanny One Ball 09-06-2021 08:56 AM

I will give it the benefit of having depth though, there are moments that make you wonder about it all.
I particularly like the Guy Young stuff. It’s on the edge and very provocative. I can’t remember the last time a comedy show just went for it on a racial level. This show does it a lot. It looks and feels like real life.

It’s just more interesting than it is funny a lot of the time.

Seanny One Ball 09-08-2021 06:55 PM

Only Murders In The Building is good fun. A nice pace for performance to supplement actual jokes.

Seanny One Ball 09-08-2021 08:01 PM

This show is great so far. I laughed a lot at episode 3, the cast are excellent together and the premise is a tremendous way of sneaking in big unexpected laughs.

Juan 09-09-2021 11:22 PM

About to start s2 of Ted Lasso and s3 of Mayans MC

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-10-2021 05:29 PM

I just finished watching a series from the 1980s: The Jewel in the Crown. It is a great piece of television; the acting is slightly dated, as TV has moved on, but still, a fantastic story. It is set in India during WW2, so you have that and the rising nationalist movement and then partition as a back-drop, but the story revolves around the rape of an English woman and the torture and subsequent false imprisonment of her Indian lover, and how those events reverberate in the lives of a set of other characters, most of whom don't know or ever meet the woman or her lover. It also doesn't shy away from the prejudices and bigotry of the period, both between the English classes and between the colonials and the Indians, but not in the preachy or ham-fisted way that things are done these days. It is a series that does not come along very often; it is up there with Brideshead Revisited as far as rare quality 80s television goes.

Seanny One Ball 09-10-2021 05:53 PM

I looked it up because of that post and completely spoiled it for myself.

It looks pretty good though.

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-10-2021 06:14 PM

It is so good. Makes me want to investigate 80s television further and see what quality shows I've never seen. A couple of shows I came across that I'm going to check out are Edge of Darkness and A Very British Coup.

Seanny One Ball 09-10-2021 06:24 PM

Edge Of Darkness is one that is apparently top drawer and I’ve debated watching it before. I saw the Mel Gibson film but it wasn’t up to much. I’ll see if I can find it online.

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-10-2021 06:46 PM

Edge of Darkness is on Amazon; can buy it for £5.99. Depending on how much food money I have unspent next Friday, I'll probably buy it.

I wouldn't mind watching the TV adaptation of Vera Brittain's Testament of Youth, from 1979, but it is not available online, at least I haven't seen it anywhere. The film with Alicia Vikander and Kit Harrington, from 2014/15, is just naff; no 2-hour film can do that book justice, as there is just too much to cover.

weather vane 09-11-2021 01:49 AM

Ted Lasso and Dave so good. So so so good.

XL 09-11-2021 04:59 AM

Finished up Your Honor (good stuff) and the final season of Modern Family (end of an era). Started on Criminal. It’s great so far. Amazing cast. I’m watching the UK version but there are German, Spanish, and French (I think) versions too that differ. Might check those out too.

Seanny One Ball 09-11-2021 07:37 AM

Ted Lasso season two is shite
