Thought process of 90% of online:

Alright, great new game just came out, tons of new mechanics and characters to try out....now who should I pick...

(Insert any combination of Ryu/Ken/Akuma/Sagat)

BRILLIANT!

#BROKEN Hasney 03-09-2012 05:20 AM

Dunno, feels like a good starting point to me for those that don't want to piss about in training mode. It's why I went straight for Ibuki and Akuma first off because I played them so much in SF4 that I'd know the moves off-hand and slowly learn them with the new mechanics. Therefore I'd know what works from SF4 and what doesn't and take the parts that do work when I jump off and try new characters.

If they never move on from them, they're pretty much tards, but I think it's a really valid starting point.

Kalyx triaD 03-09-2012 11:09 AM

Doesn't make a difference. I just rather not pay for them. I want my fucking colors and after a million games where colors weren't a problem now it seems I may have to buy color packs. Thought it was funny on 3sOE but not so cute now.

Really I just need purple.

Boomer 03-09-2012 11:16 AM

Mass Effect 3 and a new girlfriend are keeping me away from this. Didn't even get to finish the tutorial yesterday.

Captain of Fun 03-09-2012 12:22 PM

Really hope they fix the detection zones for analog input in the next patch. Wonder if they even know about it.

It's not just jumping thats a problem either. It's also a factor in the other direction, as I've blocked low, but still gotten sweeped. Don't know how they screwed this up.

They said a while back that colour packs are free. I remember asking why have them as DLC if they were free.

I just need red.

Captain of Fun 03-09-2012 12:42 PM

Yeah, but it's a bit of a contradiction for them to be completely free, and locked on disc. Doesn't make any sense. I'm betting the first couple packs will be free, and then they'll start charging.

Extreme Angle 03-09-2012 01:40 PM

So what are the chances of a 'Super Crazy Turbo Street Fighter X Wavey Tekken HD Winner' type of release?

Drakul 03-09-2012 01:42 PM

They have officially said that this will be the only disc based version of the game and any updates would be downloads.

Drakul 03-09-2012 01:42 PM

I didn't get the game today. I'm hoping it gets here tomorrow.

Captain of Fun 03-09-2012 03:05 PM

I have to utilize cross cancels and tag cancels more. Too often I lose a round, because I'm under pressure, and I'm waiting to use a raw tag or boost combo.

Heihachi is probably my main right now. He is just so nasty once he gets inside. Has a bunch of mix up normals that actually look like they are going to hit one way, and then hit the opposite. I also got down a pretty nasty combo into his super. Since they both need 3 bars, I'll have to check the combo I have into his cross art and see which one does more damage.

Julia and Nina are tied for number 2 at the moment, though I feel like with a little more time with julia, and she'll be ahead. She's really deadly at mid range, as her normals are super fast and have very long reach.

I'm trying to learn king, but he's pretty damn hard to use effectively. Yet to hit a single dragon screw or running power bomb in game.

Kalyx triaD 03-09-2012 03:52 PM

Oddly enough, I hit a bunch of his dragon screw counters when messing with him. His Jaguar Step is fucking awesome, too. Probably won't pick him up still.

My Jin is getting better, I just have to remember this is still mostly Street Fighter. Like my Taki in SC4, his game completely changes between mid and far range. He's useless full screen, so I have to stay in - which is really the crutch of the game anyway.

Cammy is getting back into her SSF4 glory.

Possibly dropping Asuka, just not working for me. Absolutely no anti-air game and her strings aren't too good. There's some mix-up, and her juggle game seems good. I just don't know her vibe yet.

Ken is great as a tag cancel guy, he'll be working with Jin more.

Cammy/Jin looks like my main team for now.

Playing with the pad feels so ugly.

Drakul 03-10-2012 10:49 AM

Still no SFxT :(. Going to have to wait until Monday, now.

Funky Fly 03-10-2012 07:01 PM

Any word on a fix for the 7/9 stick issue?

Kalyx triaD 03-10-2012 07:03 PM

I don't even think it's identified as a widespread problem.

Funky Fly 03-10-2012 07:41 PM

Fuck.

Fryza 03-10-2012 08:35 PM

Only played a bit. Liking Juri/Vega at the moment.

Captain of Fun 03-11-2012 03:23 AM

I know that if I stick to just a few characters, I'll get better faster, but fuck there are so many characters that are fun to use. Right now, I'm using Heihachi, Nina, Julia, King, Lili, Asuka, and Juri the most, but there are so many other characters I want to get better with.

This was a bit of a problem for me in SSF4, and fighting games in general, tbh, but this game takes it to new levels for me. Everyone on the roster seems really great.

Except Marduk. Seems like he has very few useful tools, and he is mind numbingly slow. Kalyx beat the shit out of me when I picked him.

Kalyx triaD 03-11-2012 09:54 AM

Haven't seen any decent Murdock's yet. Sounds like a challenge.

Boomer 03-11-2012 10:00 AM

Mike Ross has the best Marduk I've seen so far.

Pretty sure I'll be able to get some use out of him when I get my game through the post.

Drakul 03-12-2012 12:51 PM

Got the game today. I downloaded the 45 extra gems but I think I ended up going with reguilar gems.
The arcade cabinet piggy bank is higher quality than I thought. I thought it would be one of those cheap folding cardboard things but it's actually plastic. I'm a bit uneasy trying to push certain parts togethor incase it breaks.

The little comic/manga that comes with it isn't all that great. Basically, it's a mini comic that just has a few pages of of Ryu and Kasuya fighting. Though there is a page or two that shows you where Pandora came from.
SPOILER: show
it was created by someone from elsewhere in the universe. We see the sillouette of a woman. Looks like Ingrid.

Tried out the colour editor and it is completely useless right now. Until they bring out actual colours, all we can do is make mime versions of each character. I wanted to give Poison a red outfit but I had to settle for a blonde hair goth Poison.

Gameplaywise, I've never really needed to use Pandora and I can get through Arcade without tagging out, so I just need Zangief. That's probably going to be a problem in the long run because then I'd be good with one character and useless with his partner. Hoping to get to grips with someone else.

Has anyone else been doing things by mistake? I was just attacking and ended up doing that auto combo thing unintentionally twice. Also, I'm pretty sure I pressed H.Kick and I did H.Punch.

Funky Fly 03-12-2012 01:00 PM

Yeah, the quick combos are a pain in the ass. Def gonna end up removing them from the sticks as inputs.

Iop 03-12-2012 01:03 PM

wtf they shoulf make Street Fighter Vs Tekken Vs Mortal Kombat Vs Virtua Fighter Vs Marvel Vs Capcom

Kalyx triaD 03-12-2012 01:05 PM

Yeah just remove the quick combos from the stick inputs. I did that hour-1 after a few gaffs cost me.

Or just keep the one for RS

Drakul 03-13-2012 01:49 AM

Does anyone have a schedule for DLC? Even a rough one with just a month listed.
I googled it and found nothing.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-13-2012 01:55 AM

They've now said that all the character DLC is coming in Autumn after debuting on the Vita earlier than that.

Not sure about costumes/colours.

Drakul 03-13-2012 02:14 AM

I knew about the characters being after the Vita release. I was hoping for the colours, really.
I'd quite enjoy making my own colour scheme for the characters and I can't do that with just black and white.

You'd think they'd have at least included red, green and blue.

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2012 02:19 AM

Purple for fuck sake.

Drakul 03-13-2012 02:35 AM

Purple seems like a colour that would be held back a while. I don't know why, it just seems like it. Red, green and blue are primary colours so you'd think they'd have at least included those.

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2012 02:40 AM

Thanks.

Drakul 03-13-2012 02:57 AM

You're welcome. It just has a "luxury" look to it. Like it would be in a pack with gold and silver etc. Probably because it's used in a lot for "regal" things.

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2012 03:00 AM

Well bodes bad for me. Purple is my go-to color for anything that allows me color edit.

Heh, figures with Capcom bringing back color edit there'd be wild catch.

Drakul 03-13-2012 06:27 AM

I'm hoping colours are all free but then it makes no sense to make them DLC when they are on the disc and are free so we might have to pay.

The controls seem strange in the game. I was trying to jump diagonally in a ranked match and I did a jumping H.Punch instead. Blocking seems sketchy online too.
The control thing happened offline as well.
I've never had any trouble with any other game or any other part of this game when it comes to controls. It's just when I'm in a match once in a while.

I did the input for a SPD and got a German suplex instead at one point. Speaking of SPD, I did a Pandora FAB in training and it did damage, as you'd expect, but when I tried the same thing in a match against the AI, only the SPD section of the Pandora FAB did damage. The suplexes did nothing. Though that's only happened once.

Captain of Fun 03-13-2012 12:04 PM

Yeah, diagonal inputs on the analog have been a problem. Not a huge problem mind you, it's just that it's different from SSF4. I do hope they change it in a patch, but looking at other forums, not many people seem to be talking about it. Likely because it's only a problem on the analog stick, and a lot of people either use the d-pad, or own an arcade stick/fight pad.

I personally find anything more than a quarter circle motion difficult to perform on a pad, and I can't afford yet another arcade stick atm, so I'm stuck with the shit jumping.

Weird, because I don't have trouble blocking low anymore but I still do neutral jumps.

Drakul 03-13-2012 01:48 PM

If they don't patch it, I'm screwed because I've only ever played the 360 games with a regular pad. I'd be awful with a stick.
Plus, they're expensive and I break everything I touch far to easily. I can't afford to pay £60 for a stick, break it, spend another £60 on a new one etc.

Online is weird for me too. Besides the high amount of lag I seem to get and the weird controls, I was playing against a guy and he activated the auto combo and he flashed white etc and then he stopped mid combo (he was missing me) and I flashed white and I was doing one though I hadn't pressed the buttons for it.

So, either I've got a lot of bad luck with glitches or my 360 is haunted.
Speaking of glitches, I unlocked a SFxT achievement and it glitched my gamerscore. I've gone from 20000+ to 10 and I can't seem to fix it.

Drakul 03-13-2012 05:13 PM

Played a few matches with Fignuts. I got pretty much whipped whenever Zangief wasn't on the screen. No chance against his Heihachi.

I've moaned about it for the last 24 hours but the controls online are wrecked. At one point, playing as Guile, I was walking towards Fignuts and Guile seems to randomly decide he'd like to do an auto combo.

So I'm not pressing anything but the stick and, still, the game does things on its own. H.Punch at random seems to be popular aswell.
I'm going to go see if I can report the issue to Capcom.

Funky Fly 03-13-2012 06:48 PM

If you click the sticks, you autocombo. You have to disable it in the controls.

Kalyx triaD 03-13-2012 08:17 PM

Take autocombo off the sticks in the config menu.

Captain of Fun 03-13-2012 08:30 PM

You do know that auto combos are set to pressing the analog sticks as well, right? It's not just that button combination or whatever. You can turn it off in button configure.

Captain of Fun 03-13-2012 08:31 PM

Damn it, new page.

Captain of Fun 03-13-2012 08:34 PM

Really want to get King where Heihachi is. He's so fun to use.

Captain of Fun 03-14-2012 02:03 AM

Ugh. Played King all night and could only pull off his basic combo. I want to hit his running powerbomb in a match so bad, but I choke whenever I try it. Completely forgot about his convict kick > DDT move.

I need to use the shining wizard more, since people instinctively block low after I jump in. Still haven't hit a dragon screw. Keep mixing up the high and low versions and getting caught.

Blitz 03-14-2012 02:39 AM

Probably gonna spend some more time with Poison. I like her possibilities.

Drakul 03-14-2012 02:48 AM

I didn't know that clicking the stick did that but I'm pretty sure I wasn't clicking the stick. I'll disable it and see if that stops that. Then I've just to figure out the H.Punch thing and it should be passable.

I'm liing Poison too. She's a good sidekick for my main guy.

Captain of Fun 03-14-2012 02:56 AM

Poison can be pretty nasty. Doesn't seem like she does a lot of damage though. I was able to come back quite a few times against her tonight, after getting throttled for most of the match.

She has a lot of unsafe moves, as well.

Funky Fly 03-14-2012 03:11 PM

Haven't spent a great deal of time with this, but I can say that:

- Lili has possibilities, but the low damage...
- Gonna be deadly with Raven eventually. Really like his style.
- I actually kinda like Ryu better than Ken in this game.
- Bison is beastly.
- Probably gonna give up on Abel, unless he gets a slight buff.
- Somebody called it with Asuka. No anti air game at all.
- Wanna get good with King and Hwoarang but it seems unlikely.

Captain of Fun 03-14-2012 03:38 PM

Yeah, Ken is pretty toned down from SF4, from what I hear. Doesn't Asuka have an anti-air grab?

Funky Fly 03-14-2012 04:19 PM

Pretty sure it's an anti air counter, like King's dragon screw. Never managed to hit it during a match anyway. Ken and Ryu feel more like their SF3 counterparts, I guess. I preferred Ryu in 3 as well.

Captain of Fun 03-14-2012 06:49 PM

Fooling around with Xiaoyu today. Mix ups like crazy if you can use her right, but she seems like a very technical character. Dunno if I'll use her more yet.

Captain of Fun 03-14-2012 07:47 PM

Julia and Dhalsims swap costumes have shown up on eu psn. You can only find them with the search function, and there is nothing on the psn blog, so it must be a leak.

They are a dollar each, which seems high, but I'm betting it's because they have full color customization.

RoXer 03-14-2012 11:12 PM

Gunna start this now that I think Im done with ME3

Blitz 03-15-2012 12:06 AM

Much as I like Law and Hwoarang, they just aren't completely clicking for me yet. So tonight, I throw down with Cammy and Poison.

Folks, we might have something here.

Yeah, once I get done with ME3, I'm all in for joining in. Probably have another 10 hours at most.

RoXer 03-15-2012 12:23 AM

Don't get your hopes up about the ending

Captain of Fun 03-15-2012 12:57 AM

Finally starting to see the possibilities with Marduk. Key is in his normals. Back + MP has armor and is a great set up for the northern lights suplex.

I think as a whole I'm going to be playing grapplers a whole lot more in this game. King is really starting to look good, and I'm learning new tricks with Hugo every day. Zangief has RIDICULOUS range and priority with his command grabs. I barely know how to use Gief, and I destroyed with him earlier. He might end up in my stable of mains.

Only one that's pretty tough is Kuma. I did hit his fart online though, which was very satisfying.

Blitz 03-15-2012 03:13 AM

Wow seriously, dunno if I've just been playing horrible players, but Cammy and Poison are cleaning up for me.

Captain of Fun 03-15-2012 06:41 PM

As if there wasn't enough of a shit storm stirred up by problems exclusive to the xbox version, it now appears that the diagonal input problems are exclusive to the xbox.

I only have a stick for ps3, so I can't comment on it from experience.

btw, Megaman and Pacman are fairly lame. You guys aren't missing much. Cole on the other hand, is pretty darn fun to use.

Drakul 03-16-2012 01:50 AM

Hearing all this stuff about the 360 having this issue and that issue really makes it look like they were trying to make the 360 version inferior.
Not that they had a staff meeting and planned to remove co-op or whatever but more like they just focused on polishing the PS3 version and just brushed the 360 versions problems aside.
They've had multiple excuses for the couch co-op thing. They've said it was MSs fault, they've changed that to "We just didn't have the time" and I think they also said something like "We never said it would be on all formats". Rather than say they'll fix it, they've said they can't and they've told us to take note that they have put lots of other stuff in the game though, as if that makes it ok.
You can't really say that when they're expecting us to be for every single addition thing. Characters, costumes, combos and colours.

Maybe Sony paid them a little more to ignore the 360s issues? Is that a legal thing they can do?
Japanese companies tend to stick side by side, don't they? Maybe it's a nationality thing. 360 is American so it's not as important to Capcom as Sonys machine.

Captain of Fun 03-16-2012 02:03 AM

Still not utilizing all of kings tools in battle, but I'm getting better. Jaguar step mix ups can mess with an opponent's head.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-16-2012 03:02 AM

They've released the patch for the 360 pirate version to unlock all DLC. There's a good local copy to have

Captain of Fun 03-16-2012 03:12 AM

Dunno if I like best of 5 rounds in this game. Best of 3 takes long enough as it is.

Kalyx triaD 03-16-2012 03:34 AM

Yeah, won't do that as much.

Drakul 03-16-2012 07:32 AM

Really? I thought best of 3 was much quicker in this than it was in SSFIV. I've been doing best of 7 for Scramble Battles.

Kalyx triaD 03-16-2012 01:42 PM

Scramble's pretty quick compared to regular play. We've had some lobbies and though we've gotten better we still have time-outs.

Kalyx triaD 03-16-2012 02:43 PM

Quote:

Hot on the heels of its March 6 release date, SFxT is about to kick off regular updates - meant to keep the experience fresh all through the year - with a blend of free and paid DLC. There's a whole bunch o' content coming, so let's break it all down...

Up first on April 3 are Swap Costumes that take the "alternate costume" DLC idea one step further - instead of offering basic alts, these outfits cross the fashion line by dressing SF characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. See Raven dress as Guy, Cammy as King and uh, Kuma as R. Mika...(?)

Swap Costumes are available for $1.00 (80 Microsoft Points) each, or if you wanna dive in for the whole assortment you can pick up the Street Fighter or Tekken collection packs for $13.00 (1040 MSP) each - buying one pack saves $6.00, grabbing both saves $12.00. April 3 also brings three free color packs, each containing four new additions to the palette for added customization options. Topping off the April 3 additions are three new quick combos, making for a total of five pre-programmed attack patterns. While spamming these pre-set combos is tempting, don't forget each use saps some of your Cross Gauge!

Shortly after those items arrive, look for a free tournament support title update that will add a new and faster way to select your gems from the versus screen via a dial system. We'll actually run a live stream this Monday at 4pm PT to show off this update, so head to our Twitch TV page for details. The tournament update will also include improvements to the online sound issues discussed in Ayano-san's earlier blog.

Looking just a few more weeks beyond the tournament support addition, the next big wave is a massive selection of free content delivered as a title update. This includes three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool. This sizable infusion of new gems exponentially increases the customization options for every player, so we should see some interesting new loadouts once this DLC arrives. To that point, we're also tossing in three more gem slots per character in which you can save your preferred loadouts. Finally, this update comes complete with a free replay analyzer, which enables you to dissect each fighters' vital statistics.

The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year - the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I'm happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

One additional note - the dev team is also already working on solutions to the infinite combos currently making the rounds on YouTube, and will have them patched up once these other updates are out the door.

I know this was a massive wall of text, so for further clarity, here's everything we discussed above. This all begins on April 3 with Swap Costumes, color packs and quick combos, and then rolls out over the next several weeks:

FREE
Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems
Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each

PAID
Swap Costumes - $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs
DLC characters - $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

Kalyx triaD 03-16-2012 03:21 PM

All the DLC Gems. Some interesting stuff in there.

Drakul 03-16-2012 06:44 PM

I like the sound of the DLC. I wonder if the free gems are the ones I got from the LE.

12 free colours. Hoping for red, yellow, green and orange. If they bring out green and purple, I intend to colour Marduk out like Hulk. Just because they have a similar shape, even if Marduk is obviously smaller.

RoXer 03-16-2012 06:55 PM

I may owe Hasney an apology as online is pretty fucking bad in this. Do they plan on fixing that at all?

RoXer 03-16-2012 07:20 PM

Captain of Fun 03-17-2012 12:46 AM

Pretty smooth with 2 or 3 people. 4 or more and it can lag on occasion, but overall it's been okay. Honestly, we were doing pretty well with a 5 person room until you came in, Roxer.

DLC is pretty great deal.

Sound cuts out, regardless of connection. They said something about it being a trade off between the sound working and having a smooth connection or something. I just skimmed the article that spoke about it.

Boomer 03-17-2012 12:16 PM

This game makes me feel awful that I can't execute any combo out of the regular L-L-M-H arrangement. Executing linking and cancels regularly is something I just can't do well, and I hate that I don't have the time or patience to try and get much better at it.

Captain of Fun 03-17-2012 12:33 PM

Play as Tekken characters. Their various chain combos are a lot easier than links.

Boomer 03-17-2012 12:51 PM

I want to play with whoever, not just what's easiest

Kalyx triaD 03-17-2012 01:07 PM

Who do you play?

Boomer 03-17-2012 01:22 PM

I mean I always stick with Bison because that's who I've played since SSF2T, but I haven't really chosen anyone. I generally go through trials with everyone, see how I fair, and go on from there.

At least with SSFIV I could rely on good pokes with Bison and not have to deal with learning the timing of his combos. I know pokes in this game can turn into good hit-confirms, but this game requires a good amount of timing and execution that I am not particularly good at. UMVC3 probably spoiled me a little, considering you could basically tap attacks in a combo without much need for timing (not counting calling assists for extending combos).

Kalyx triaD 03-17-2012 01:46 PM

Perhaps it's the pace.

Boomer 03-17-2012 02:02 PM

Like I'm doing Zangiefs trial, and I can't even do the standing M kick into standing M punch one. Frustrating. I keep thinking about waiting for the first animation to be done, and I can't figure out the timing.

Kalyx triaD 03-17-2012 02:22 PM

Links are really gay. I like to wait until the end of the impact sound, if that makes any sense.

Jumped on with my non-unlocked copy and the first match I had was against Pac-Man and Dudley :'(

Captain of Fun 03-18-2012 12:53 AM

I haven't faced anyone using the locked characters. I'd honestly like to, just to see what they are like.

RoXer 03-18-2012 01:17 AM

Kalyx triaD 360, how come you took me off of your friends list?

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 01:54 AM

What? I never did that.

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 01:54 AM

Oh wait yeah, I think it was the Urkel thing.

RoXer 03-18-2012 02:03 AM

toughen up

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 02:04 AM

I wasn't hurt or anything. Just seemed wasteful.

Drakul 03-18-2012 02:29 AM

I thought people liked Urkel. I've never seen the show or anything but he seems popular.

Why is Urkel called Urkel? Is that even a name?

Surely Alf should be called Urkel because he's some kind of hairy monster alien thing, right? Then Urkel can be called Alf because that's a human name.

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 02:49 AM

That's his last name. They needed something that sounded quirky when he was introduced. He effectively became the star of the show by the end seasons.

This is not reality.

I see. Makes sense.

I was playing ranked this morning and some guy had me in the Kazuya infinite combo the entire time. Not fun. I got a few SPD and such in but he just got me into the combo again. I hope they fix these infinites asap.
While it's not an infinite, I have gotten sick of King in ranked. Someone does the easy combo that even I can do and midway switches to King who does 3 knees and a power bomb. King tags out, they do it again.

I did beat a team of 2 humans, solo, so that was cool. You'd think there would be an achievement for that. Achievements seem a bit weak in general. Do X 500 time. Do Y 500 times. Where are the achievements for completing arcade on hardest or with every team etc?

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 11:55 AM

There is an achievement for beating the game past a certain difficulty. Me and Khuntry beat it on the hardest one.

All the infinites will be dealt with. Capcom is using the YouTube uploads, some of them put up to make fun of Capcom, to better find stuff they may have missed.

I assume most of the updates in the first patch will deal with infinites and hopefully the diagonal bug. I miss my thumbstick.

I wonder, down the line, if they will give massive buffs to the anti-air game. I know they wanna make jumping safer than SF4 but some of the anti-air hit-boxes are just pathetic.

I beat Arcade on hardest and got nothing but the gold title you get for whichever character you beat it with. I looked through the achievements afterwards and saw nothing about arcade mode whatsoever. It is all "Do X, Y number of times.". with the exception of things to do with customisation.

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 12:10 PM

After The Dust Has Settled
Clear Arcade mode on Medium difficulty or higher.
10 Unlocked on 3/6/2012

Drakul 03-18-2012 12:20 PM

Oh, yeah. That one.

I was thinking one specifically for Hardest, like in SSFIV.
