I just read Rhodes wanted to go professional but got cut.

But that's wiipedia info so take it as you will.

Sixx 07-18-2018 12:03 AM

But I can see that Ernie Ladd guy must have been good.

Usually wrestlers that played were only pre-season and spent 1 year in a team tops.

Yeah based on an article I read while looking up football players as wrestlers, it mentioned he tried out for the Patriots and Giants but didn't make it out of training camp. Supposedly the Dolphins were still willing to give him an offer so I assume he must have been good as a player in college. He rejected it since he already made up his mind on being a wrestler instead.

Surprised nobody said Ron Simmons.

His stats are pretty meh.

Too bad OJ didn't become a wrestler instead of a murderer. It would be huge, he was a huge star.

I wouldn't know. I'm not that into Florida State. Hell, I would never known Rock played for The U if it were never mentioned.

I mean more along the lines of "I heard about so-and-so" talked about in that circle before wrestling. Like Brock Lesnar (NCAA wrestling) or Bianca BelAir (track). I never heard anything about Dwayne Johnson's playing days until WWE brought it up.

Yeah, so am I really. Just chit chatting. I only checked on wiki and his NFL career does not look too great.

I know nothing about Uni football.

Isn't Ron Simmons in the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame?

I wonder about stuff like that sometimes. Like, what if Snoop Dogg didn't go on to release the "longest awaited rap album of all time", and instead, focused on football? From what I understand, he was a standout QB. Would he have been Heisman material in college and possibly gone on to the NFL? Would he have "smoked too much" and been suspended/forced out like Rickey Williams? And how different would not only the music world but the sports world be (or pop culture in general) if he made a shift in focus back then? What if Kevin Nash never got hurt in the first place, and kept playing basketball? Would his career doing that outstripped the lack of Diesel, the Curtain Call, The Outsiders, nWo, and so-on...? There would be a lot of shit that wouldn't have taken place and other plans put in motion.

Again, I don't know, because I don't give a fuck about the Seminoles, but I thought people talked about not liking standing across from Ron on the field back in his day because you were going to get put on your ass.

Meanwhile, I *only* remember Mongo from the Horsemen, and not playing for the Bears. Wasn't his claim to fame that he was part of the Super Bowl team? I remember Jim McMahon, I remember Fridge, Singletary, Payton... I don't remember Steve.

Being fair about that, though, given where I live, I don't give a fuck about Ziggler's accomplishments at Kent St. not so much because it wasn't admirable, but because I'm a YSU fan, and fuck Kent State. It's really less pronounced now, but back then, they were kinda rivals.

Vader played pro and no one has mentioned him somehow.

To be fair, he had probably injured himself around that time period too.

He was a practice squad player. Like Jim The Anvil Neidhart

Football players transition well into wrestling because football is all about footwork which is so important for a wrestler

I saw the End of an Era match referenced somewhere. It got me thinking about how it was 6 years ago.

Big Vic 07-18-2018 10:19 AM

and how the Era ended 6 years before that?

Evil Vito 07-18-2018 10:25 AM

The Attitude Era for all intents and purposes died at WM17, although you can make the argument that everything from WM17 through to the start of the brand split was still part of it to an extent. I think WWE themselves even say it ran through 2002, they continued using the Attitude branding in the show intros right up until the day Vince uttered the words "Ruthless Aggression".

But still, it's been at least 16 years ago that it ended. Rapidly approaching 2 decades. And yet we still have Triple H and The Undertaker in prime Mania slots every year.

Evil Vito 07-18-2018 10:27 AM

I actually forgot just how young Orton was when he started. He was only 22 when he debuted on television and he'd already been in development for a year or two. He's still only 38 years old.

" only 38 years old. "

This makes me feel young. Thanks Vito.

To me The Attitude Era went from WM14 to WM17. The New Generation Era ended at Survivor Series 96. From 96-98 I always think of it as The Pre-Attitude Era where things slowly were setting up for it. After 17, WCW was gone, and Austin turned heel. Once Austin turned, it was over. Between WM17, and the invasion, there were some PPV's with great matches. They had a very deep roster. The Angle vs Benoit feud was amazing.

They never built anyone up after Cena except for Roman so this is what they get. They have to rely on guys way past their prime.

Kane also had his "thank you" run with the World Heavyweight Title in 2010. Almost a decade ago. Five years later he was a featured antagonist in a Royal Rumble.

Such a white person thing to say.

LOL Just busting balls, Noid.

Lacey Evans is pretty good, just in case any of you were wondering. Really flourishing as a heel.

I haven't slept in 3 days and read it "flourishing in head" and was go whooooooooooaaaah.

Disappointed.

Mr. Nerfect 07-18-2018 08:17 PM

I can't keep my Laceys in wrestling straight.

Mr. Nerfect 07-18-2018 08:18 PM

Lol, just reading up on her: She was in the marnes and her staff sergeant promoted indy shows on the side. He invited her along and then booked her to wrestle him in the main event of the second show she attended. Of course he did.

Mr. Nerfect 07-18-2018 08:19 PM

Daniel Cormier did a recent interview where he sounded very WWE-friendly. I know the guy is a fan of professional wrestling, but do you think it's only a matter of time until he makes the jump?

It's only a matter of time before he teams with Brock Lesnar, only to lose to The Revival.

Big spoiler from NXT:

SPOILER: show
Tommaso Ciampa defeated Aleister Black to become the NXT Champion.

Anybody Thrilla 07-18-2018 09:02 PM

Why the fuck was Mr. Hughes in the first King of the Ring tournament?

Mr. Nerfect 07-18-2018 09:03 PM

I just heard a clip from Raw between Sasha and Bayley.

Cormier is a big WWE fan, can't ever talk with Ariel without it coming up. I do think there is a possible WWE program after he retires, especially if Cain Valesquez gets involved and especially if he defeats Lesnar at UFC next year. The reason I mentioned Cain is because that has been rumored off and on a few times plus he was at NXT tapings this week, as a fan or backstage I do not know.

Mr. Nerfect 07-18-2018 10:00 PM

I wonder if the WWE would make Velasquez cover up his "Brown Pride" tattoo? I can honestly see Vince wanting to segue into Brock vs. Velasquez and Brock vs. Cormier at WrestleMania events in order to bulk them up. I can see Vince thinking of them as "celebrity involvement" and seeing the perceived success he is having with Ronda Rousey tipping his tastes in that direction.

Jordan 07-18-2018 10:06 PM

Well Brown Pride doesn't represent hate where as white pride does so I don't think it's an issue.

It depends on what WWE thinks though. Didn't they cover up MVP largely because he had a Malcolm X tattoo?
