I think Ryan Dunn

Definitely not Steve-O or Johnny Knoxville b/c I've seen them on tv recently

Sixx 05-29-2018 09:28 AM

Oh, that's right.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:30 AM

Yeah I think Ryan had an OD several years ago. Steve O is doing well though.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:32 AM

I actually met Johnny Knoxville very shortly after the death of Dunn in a random bar in NYC. I was at a big party and there was tons of people there and I look over to the bar and there is Johnny all by himself looking sad as hell. I saw like two blondes trying to hit on him and he just stared straight ahead. I went up next to him to order a beer and said I was from Knoxville, and we chatted for a second. He gave a little bit of a shit to talk to me because we are from the same place but man he was out of it. That was in like 08 or 09.

He clearly salutes the flag a different way.

1997 and this still made the air. Could you IMAGINE if this promo aired today

I remember be shocked as a kid watching live that he used that language.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:46 AM

I think WWE should restart the Memphis Territory and take advantage of the old timers they have left. I'm talking Lawler and Jarrett and BG James maybe. Relight the Memphis territory with it's own WWE development, get it an hour on the network weekly and see what happens. I'd love if it was like a character territory where it's all about the entertainment aspect of sports entertainment. I want people to be able to cut promo's that make me want to watch a match.

Why the gimmick worked so well.

Destor 05-29-2018 12:04 PM

they do the "no he didnt" pop

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-29-2018 12:14 PM

In a way though it's genuine. Lawler is the heel and that is - well - heelish language to say the least.

In 1997 fag wasn't as taboo. It's still jarring to hear in 2018 but whatever, I love the sheer hatefulness of the language when used by a shit stain heel like Lawler.

The original plans for last year's MYC had the winner be between Io and Toni Storm based on them signing deals with Io being the favorite of the two.

hopefully she's medically cleared this time

It was in Evansville, Indiana May 26, 1997 though, which is basically Lawler country from the old Memphis Wrestling/CWA/USWA days. Lawler will probably be always over in this area until the end of time.

This. He was a babyface to them and said a babyface thing to these people. Which is fucked, but also poignant and important/fascinating to see/know.

Destor 05-29-2018 01:12 PM

they didnt pop though. that noise is the jerry springer noise.

Destor 05-29-2018 01:12 PM

oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-29-2018 01:41 PM

it was a pop. Pretty sure they end up cheering him in the match.

Vastardikai 05-29-2018 01:49 PM

I want to say the crowd chanted "flaming faggot" at Goldust during the match.

Destor 05-29-2018 02:33 PM

I hope thats true. Someone confirm it plz

#1-norm-fan 05-29-2018 02:46 PM

It definitely sounded like an "OH SHIT!" pop more than a face pop.

He didn't OD, he died after driving drunk at high speeds, crashed and the car was engulfed in flames killing Ryan and his friend in the passenger seat. Was a pretty funny dude, sad he went out like that.

Dark One 05-29-2018 07:55 PM

Stumbled across some old TNA on Pluto.tv from like 2005... Not sure how popular of an opinion this is, but Abyss's theme was dope.

Lock Jaw 05-29-2018 09:02 PM

Yeah, it was

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2018 09:13 PM

TNA had some decent to great themes in the sea of generic and mediocrity that was their music department

Savio 05-29-2018 09:21 PM

I thought it was funny when the crowd popped at Billy and Chuck not being gay.

Simple Fan 05-29-2018 09:24 PM

And they continue to have him be Joseph Park but I suppose there is only so much they can do with the Abyss character at this point. Guy seems to be a lifer for the company so they don't want to release him. Could at least transition to an agent and return as Abyss every once in a while.

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2018 10:35 PM

Based on early data, RAW likely going to get slaughtered this week in ratings and viewers. Warriors/Rockets Game 7 generated a huge number while Game 1 of the Stanley Cup did really well compared to the last 2 years for numbers.

Warriors vs. Rockets averaged 14.8 million viewers, while the hockey game averaged 5.27 million on TV and digital platforms.

Seeing 2005 Abyss last night again was kind of a revelation. 2005 Abyss from a physique and mobility perspective is a totally different guy than I'd seen in the past few years on random TNA episodes, but I guess that's par for the course for a big dude who's been wrestling hardcore matches and flying off stages and into thumbtacks for like 15+ years.

Main Event Mafia theme was really solid.

Dark One 05-29-2018 11:10 PM

Found this while going down a YouTube rabbit hole trying to find a decent version of Abyss's theme and also trying to verify whether or not it still is his theme or not. I usually think theme mashups are really shitty, but this one's really cool.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2SYMCDReTvc" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It probably doesn't hurt that I think that the Waterproof Blonde version of Just Close Your Eyes is the greatest theme of all time.
