At this point, think it'd have to play radically different. I did enjoy quite a few of them but it feels like a chore now.

So Emily Rogers, some Nintendo insider who has been on the money several times recently said that there would be a new Paper Mario announced soon. Neat or whatever.

Now she's claiming Earthbound 3 is coming west via Wii U Virtual Console, so I will slap her if she's wrong and playing with my heart right now.

So fucking what? It's tons better than any of the CoD shit put out today. CoD II STILL stands the test of time, to be completely honest.

There are a lot of unexplored areas as well. A more Pacific based campaign would be great. Obviously still have the beach landings, but as more of an underscore.

Usually anything brand new from Ubisoft is an instant home run.

With the rare dud here and there. The most recent being Watch Dogs.

Here's hoping for something interesting at E3.

Fignuts 02-19-2016 07:32 PM

Watch Dogs wasn't even bad. It just didn't live up to the trailers.

Fignuts 02-19-2016 07:33 PM

Also, super hyped for wildlands.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-20-2016 04:10 AM

Nah, Watch_Dogs was a joke. Poor gameplay, a map rammed full of boring content and collectables like any newer Assasins Creed, some of the more unlikeable characters in gaming history all wrapped up in the worst plot imaginable.
Aiden: My nephew was killed
Hacker Girl: Come meet me some place
Aiden: I never see your identity but now I do even thought it's 15 minutes into the game lol
Hacker Girl: Hai I am girl
Aiden: lol let's work together
Hacker Girl: k btw I killed your nephew
Aiden: Fuk u

-minutes pass-

Aiden: I 4give u bby because u were only following orders
Hacker Girl: ily bbz oh I'm dead now
Aiden: whoops lol

It got to the point where I actively avoided UbiSoft for the start of the generation because it just seemed like they thought people loved AC for the wrong reasons and it infected all their games like towers to uncover the map.

Not hyped for Ghost Recon yet, but Division is shaping up alright, For Honor looks fucking great and South Park too. They might hit top form again.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-20-2016 05:40 AM

Dogs was way too over hyped. Got it way after and it wasn't terrible. It was basically just unlock the map, do random missions etc. . I liked punching people so they wouldn't call the cops on me. I ended up at the worst possible ending because I played it like a lunatic. Story was shit but I was re-watching Lost at the same time as playing it So, I had story playing the game. Just not Watchdogs.

Disturbed316 02-20-2016 05:28 PM

Completely agree, Watch Dogs just felt like AC in a different setting, was completely underwhelmed by it. The hacking aspect was interesting at first but got old quick.

That number should make the boys at Bungie nervous a bit. And put them on notice to up their game (literally) soon.

Kalyx triaD 02-22-2016 11:29 PM

I'm sure they're gonna watch closely as Destiny 2 is in development now. To be honest there's some things they could learn from GTAOnline as well, but Division really is the closest analogous game to theirs.

The Darkzone (their version) would be fascinating in Destiny context.

Disturbed316 02-24-2016 01:16 AM

I don't know much about DDoS attacks, but I gather it's when they (somehow) send so much traffic to a website it can't handle it and it crashes. How does this work with a service like Xbox Live? Aren't Xbox's the only thing that connect to it? They surely couldn't simulate millions of different Xbox's connecting at once?

If it's on the internet, anything can connect to it. Even if the connection doesn't do anything, you can still flood it.

Emperor Smeat 02-24-2016 02:05 AM

Going to assume the same but on a much larger scale since it has to attack a lot of servers at once to cause anything significant to happen. Also going to assume how apps connect or use Live might be the same way hackers are able to attack the service since both are coming from the outside.

Since the Xbox One is a lot more online-oriented than the Xbox 360, makes sense that a DDoS attack would hurt it a lot more. Especially if those same attacks can go as far as making it not possible to launch games without going completely offline.

Vivendi owned both Activision and Blizzard (and Sierra) and ended up selling their shares after they got a new CEO. Now they have a new CEO who wants to buy every Frnch media company ever, apparently.

Yeah, it's 3DS. People are pissed about it because it "won't be as good", but it's goddamn Pokemon, not a technical showpiece.

That's what I thought (re: pokemon stuff)... love my 3DS

Don't really care to see a WWI battlefield. Would rather they follow COD's lead and go futuristic. Maybe a sequel to 2142, which is an underappreciated entry in the series.

So long as they find a way to retain the gameplay with 90yo tech and weapons as a template.

Yep.

How's Playstation Now doing? Did that ever pick up steam? They should just change that over to a year subscription thing or a small add-on fee for PS+ users.

Emperor Smeat 03-01-2016 07:59 PM

Think they've recently added a lot of games for it but probably like a lot of things with the Playstation name tact on, not doing that well either or else they would have boasted about its success a lot by now.

Think it also lost a lot of luster once Microsoft started their own backwards compatibility-like program for the Xbox One and it being free.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 06:41 AM

There you go, you could smell it coming.

drave 03-02-2016 06:58 AM

Bleh.

Depending how this unfolds, I may just go back to PC gaming and stay there forever.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 02:54 PM

Or get one of the good consoles.

PC gaming is in a strange limbo at the moment where requirements are all over the place. Compatibility seems to be having a bad time in the last year too.

drave 03-02-2016 03:21 PM

Your usage of "good" is subjective. Nothing wrong with the One and I would still, to this day, take it over the PS4 because I couldn't care less if all games are 1080p 60fps and w/e the hell else everyone raves about.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 03:26 PM

Why?

drave 03-02-2016 03:43 PM

I use it for much more than gaming and it serves very well as a single box with multiple, great usage. More reliable network and better offerings IMO.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 04:01 PM

It didn't occur to me you already had a One for some reason (my stupidity). I don't think it's an entirely terrible console, I just think it's a dropped ball in a series of dropped balls by MS. The stuff moving to PC as Xbox 'apps' is messy and it's clear they don't want to be in the console business any more but they're married to it.

drave 03-02-2016 04:49 PM

At first I was all for PS4 when Xbox made their now famous E3 show. Then they backpedaled on some things and won me over.... but it was literally down to the moment I was standing in the store.

I don't regret the decision, but the future as they spelled it out (at least on the Surface) sounds awful.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-02-2016 04:55 PM

Honestly bought my Xb1 at the wrong time. They just waited for me to jump in and then go "Fuck it, everythings on PC now".

Emperor Smeat 03-02-2016 05:29 PM

Think Microsoft had been hinting about wanting to merge PC gaming and console gaming going all the way back with the original Xbox. Could have happened way sooner had they not bungled their "Games for Windows" service multiple times.

To a smaller degree, both Nintendo and Sony have hinted or been trying to merge things together like console and handheld gaming (Nintendo) or expand into more areas (Sony).

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 05:44 PM

The Xbox was Microsoft making a move into the living room. The One was them trying to double down on the TV aspect of it, but it was far too late to the dance when most TVs have built in features, and you can get stuff like Chromecasts for next to nothing.

I don't think this is them merging PC and Console, I think this is them retreating. The fight for the living room is lost, for the foreseeable future.

Most talking points against xbox one come from people with no xbox one.

ClockShot 03-02-2016 07:17 PM

That hurts with Andromeda not getting out this year.

Back end of the year is looking pretty bleak for games right now.

To be fair, I assume most people who like good games will have their hands full with Yakuza 0. ;)

Honestly, there's so many good games coming out throughout the year that are ones to sink stupid amounts of hours into that it'll balance out. Persona 5 and FFXV (unless there's more delays to laugh at) in one year? E3 hasn't happened yet and publishers must also have taken notice at just how good the lack of dragging out marketing was for Fallout 4.

Last Guardian is this year too. So pumped if that gets dated at E3.

 Well done sir. *Tip o the hat*

Sepholio 03-03-2016 12:50 PM

So basically the One is becoming a media center PC with a more 'shuttle' like form factor instead of a traditional desktop.

Didn't PCs do that in like......06?

Sepholio 03-03-2016 12:52 PM

This news really irks me. I got the One close to launch unfortunately so I overpaid and got stuck with a pointless kinect. Oh well, I dealt with that. Now you're telling me you will be releasing more hardware updates ala PC....does this mean games will come with differing settings now or will i have to update my One to play newer games? The reason I buy consoles is because I don't have to update them for long periods and still get all the new games....and now these dicks are taking that from me. Shenanigans. Fucking Shenanigans. Tom foolery even.

Fignuts 03-03-2016 01:17 PM

Do we even know that yet?

Kalyx triaD 03-03-2016 01:23 PM

Yeah I don't see an issue yet. Yet.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-03-2016 01:28 PM

It's happening, Phil Spencer actually said:

Quote:

You'll actually see us come out with new hardware capability during a generation allowing the same games to run backward and forward compatible
There's going to be a redesign at some point in this generation.

Quote:

Look at what is going on in the PC/Phones (specifically mentions 2 years for phones) ecosystem in terms of visuals and screen technology improving over time as an idea of an iterative console. Making a cheaper and smaller console overtime is "important" but wants to make sure taking your games with you and games improving is important.

Makes a point that backwards/forwards compatibility is incredibly important. Phil says Microsoft wants that to be a driving force for the platform.
Basically, your current XBox One will run games throughout the generation, but the re-design might run them at a higher detail. He's talked a lot about backwards/forwards compatibility so I don't see a point where they fuck over the people that actually supported them since the console has pretty much bombed so far everywhere other than the US and UK.

Can't see it ever being a case of you picking settings either. Betting the game will pick the settings based on the console it's booted on.

drave 03-03-2016 01:48 PM

Welp, no reason to stick to a "console" if it just a PC in a different box.

Disappointed, really.

Kalyx triaD 03-03-2016 01:55 PM

Wait - what's wrong with this idea? Is it saying we're gonna have to get new SKUs often or are they saying there will be more variations that play the same games as varying fidelity?

If it's the latter then I don't see an issue unless the distinction will be tantamount to CoD Blops III current vs last gen versions. If we're talking some difference in resolution and such than that's already a choice I made getting an Xbone over a PS4 or PC.

I just wanna get a sense of what's to fear because my only worry is not being able to play what I want with my buds.

drave 03-03-2016 01:57 PM

Essentially, they will be releasing a "new Xbox" every X amount of years (most likely 2, since he mentioned it)

So hyped for No Man's Sky.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-04-2016 11:50 AM

So the Beastcast had a good idea about this XBox One revision thing. The one they bring out now could be a VR ready one that works with Occulus because they don't have a solution for it and they want to be there near the start of the consumer model. Seems like a good idea.

drave 03-04-2016 11:56 AM

Meh - still going PC. It will be cheaper, more versatile and not tie down to a specific "brand" or w/e.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-04-2016 12:22 PM

Oh totally, probably work better for you. But for a company that has been behind the curve getting to trends over several years, having a way to get a box in front of people that's the best VR experience for the living room with more power than PSVR or the Galaxy Gear would be fairly smart.

drave 03-04-2016 12:28 PM

Still have those options with PC :P

Still feel like it is going to blowback at them. I get what they are doing from a business standpoint, but still leaves a bit of a "bad mark" for me.

The Rogerer 03-04-2016 04:08 PM

I think the stuff about the Xbox being upgradable is overblown. Maybe a future Xbox platform, but not the One. You can't change the processor without changing the motherboard. The weaknesses with the One are the RAM being DDR3, and the lack of ESRAM, and the GPU.

Even if you had a discrete graphics card in a new Xbox, in a few years the bandwidth of the motherboard, CPU, etc, would be outclassed and you would always have a bottleneck. Shills at Forbes proclaim this will make the Xbox immortal. Maybe in the way an iPhone is immortal? Maybe if you believe in reincarnation.

Its just an idea that sounds cool but doesn't mean anything. Even a PC cannonly be upgraded so far, and its design to be modular. They're already making a loss on cheap console hardware.

After the shaky launch of the Xbox One, would people buy an Xbox Two , also kmowing they might have to shell out for upgrades in a year

It's not about upgrading your existing box, it's about a whole new hardware box, so it will be an XBox One.Two or something. Runs all the XB1 games as normal, possibly at a higher setting depending on what the developers do. They've compared it to the phone/iPad model where there will be new hardware every 2 years but if you don't want to upgrade, that's fine. Games will still run on your old box.
