The whole thing with Ambrose is almost reminiscent of how Austin got over. Not just in similar character traits, but the amount of luck involved.

Austin won the KOTR in 96 because (rumour has it) HHH had the win pulled from him as punishment for the Curtain Call incident. Without Austin being put in that role, against Jake Roberts, we get no "Austin 3:16", one of the biggest branding successes in the history of wrestling.

Next, and arguably the single match that put Austin over the top was a match he was never scheduled to have. The original plan for WM13 was for a HBK/Hart rematch, until Shawn "lost his smile" and we got the classic match between Hart and Austin, and the shot of Austin bleeding in the Sharpshooter before passing out.

Hopefully Ambrose can use this opportunity (with no Punk, Bryan, Reigns) to catapult himself into the stratosphere.
