Sturgill Simpson - High Top Mountain 9/10
More up tempo stuff reminds me of Waylon Jennings. His slower stuff tears at you like Keith Whitley's best. |
Fitzwilliam String Quartet - Shostakovich: The String Quartets 9/10 (Very tasty)
Vasily Petrenko/Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - Shostakovich: Symphony 11 8.5/10 Les Arts Florissants - Charpentier: La Descente D'Orphee Aux Enfers 7/10 |
Placebo- Loud Like Love 8/10

avenged sevenfold-hail to the king 7/10
Nothing we haven't heard before somewhere else but still pretty damn good. |
New Sting cd=:| I know he's making a musical but I dunno 5/10. Couple of songs sound like Irish drinking songs but a lot is slow and boring.
|
Jyotsna Srikanth - Call of Bangalore 8/10
|
"Garage Inc."- Metallica
6.4/10 PASS Always avoided this album except for the various singles (Turn the Page, Whiskey in the Jar). It's adequate. |
I quite enjoy the "Metallica and Friends" version of Tuesday's Gone.
|
Loved the version of So What. good stuff, heavy.
|
Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed 8/10

I thought that piece was greatly lacking in the cello department. Fucking Moazrt, get your head out of your ass!
|
Korn- Paradigm Shift 8/10
Korn's best album in a while. Never, Never sort of sucks but the rest is solid. |
Alan Jackson - The Bluegrass Album 8.5/10
Really solid album. If more mainstream country albums came out sounding like this, I wouldn't complain. "Blacktop" is a subtle counter to all those Dirt Road songs on modern country. "Blue Ridge Mountain Song" is a heart breaker. |
Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Ensemble - Brahms: String Sextets 8.5/10
Winston Choi - Elliott Carter: Complete Piano Works 8.5/10 Fu Manchu - The Action is Go 7/10 Marc-Andre Hamelin - Scriabin: The Complete Piano Sonatas 8/10 Gyorgy Ligeti Edition 7: Chamber Music 8/10 Deftones - B-Sides and Rarities 6.5/10 |
Really thought Brahms String Sextet was lacking, like one of the sextet was trying to show off and plays solos with his violin and I was like "fool, you're supposed to be a TEAM!"
|
Les Arts Florissants - M.A. Charpentier: Les Plaisirs de Versailles 7.5/10
Maria Kliegel/Nina Tichman - Georges Onslow: Cello Sonatas 7.5/10 Alexandra Silocea - Prokofiev: Piano sonatas 1-5 8.5/10 Spirit Caravan - The Last Embrace 7/10 |
Really loved Les Arts Florissants. Good to see they haven't changed their style.
Like I always say" If it ain't Baroque, don't fix it!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I REALLY SAID THAT! |
LOL, I try not to STRAUSS over classical music. But I do take it very seriously. I would like to compose a LISZT of all the best composers of all time. I'll be BACH to this thread in a little bit really start listing all the serious business composers. WOOOO!!
|
I don't listen to classical music very Offenbach :| :n:
|
Touche Amore - Is Survived by 7.5/10
I like them, but, the vocalist's voice is somewhat monotonous, and gets tiresome after awhile. |
Did not enjoy. It was too loud.

It has been quite a while since I last posted any new albums that I've listened to; I can't be arsed naming them all, so just the four in the last week or so.
Dennis Russell Davies/Vienna RSO/Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra - Philip Glass: Symphony 2 7.5/10 (I really like the symphony itself, which I would give an 8.5/10, but the other pieces bore me somewhat) Patricia Petibon/Paavo Jarvi/Orchestre de Paris/Choeur de l'Orchestra de Paris - Poulenc: Stabat Mater/Gloria/Litanies a la Vierge Noire 8.5/10 (I wish there was more Patricia, but you can't fault the music) Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging inside Me 7.5/10 Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours 8/10 |

the lawrence arms - metropole 8/10
really like this record. feels like familiar lawrence arms territory with a few additions to the formula. perhaps i expected a bit more after such a long time between full lengths, but i'm not at all disappointed. |
ok so i got high and really listened to this with some damn headphones. some pretty awesome stuff on there. a definite continued evolution for them, especially on tracks like "the ymca down the street from the clinic" and "paradise shitty." maybe an 8.4 now. but i'll let you know after a few more listens.
|
Clutch - Earth Rocker 8/10
Dum Dum Girls - Too True 7/10 I prefer the previous album, Only in Dreams. |
These New Puritans - Field of Reeds 8.5/10
|
Oh yeah great album, amazing cello. That cello shook me like jello!
Haw haw! |
anything el vaq listens to is better than anything you listen to. without question.

Tyler, The Creator - Bastard
I accidentally stumbled across the song "Bastard" while looking for another song, and I really dug it. Had some time on my hands today, so I threw the whole album on in the background. I really dig the lyrics and flow through most of the album. While it was impressive that he was only 17/18 when this album was made AND he made his own beats, some of those beats left a bit to be desired. They hit in nice places, but they're missing SOMETHING in the middle fairly often. Still, an enjoyable listen for a hip hop head. 8/10 Favorite track: "Bastard" |
These Are Jokes- Demetri Martin: 8.5/10
King Baby- Jim Gaffigan: 9.7/10 No Cure for Cancer- Dennis Leary: 9/10 Drove a long distance + picked up some comedy to make the trip. These all payed off brilliantly. I recommend all of them. |
Death "For all the world to see"-9.5/10
Best album I have heard in years. Not a bad track on it. |
Bobholly138 coming out of left field with a solid choice in music

Been listening to a bootleg live CD of GG Allin. It is mostly his more country sounding stuff. I wish GG had done more stuff like that. And focused less on the shock stuff. When he wasn't trying to shock people he put out some good to great music. |
yeah the doc was really good. my buddy showed it to me and i was hooked.
i've always been rather indifferent to gg allin, though. |
Ulf Wallin/Roland Pontinen - Hindemith: Complete Violin Sonatas 8/10
|
Quote:
I like most of GG's early stuff. And his more outlaw country stuff. I still hate that he decided to focus more on the shock value than the music. A friend of mine in Vancouver got to meet Death when they were touring promoting the documentary. Maybe I will get lucky and they will play Jackson or New Orleans. |

I am hoping they record more stuff. Not sure how good it will be.Since the brother that died wrote most of the old stuff. That album has this raw primal energy to it that very few bands can capture. |
I did and then proceeded to let some of my musician friends in on the greatness of these guys.
|
Into some weird electro rock stuff at the moment. Loving Chvrches album. 8/10
After watching the Brits, listened to rudimentals album. Wtf? 3/10. Disclosure I give a 5/10 for their album settle. Not sure what I am missing with daft punks album random access memories. I tried again and I just don't feel it. 4/10 In a tidal wave of mystery by capital cities is good, but gets a bit samey after four or five songs. 6/10 |
If the Brits champion some act/band, then that act/band is likely to be shit...unless it is David Bowie. Otherwise: shit.
|

One of the best Soundtrack albums I have heard. Introduced me to so many bands. |
The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream: 9/10. Didn't really love any of their earlier stuff but this album is pretty amazing. They really perfected this 80s Tom Petty/Springsteen/Dire Straits sound.

Vasily Petrenko/Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - Shostakovich: Symphony 8 8/10
Marc-Andre Hamelin - Ives/Barber: Piano Sonatas 8/10 Kari Kriikku/Anu Komsi/Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra/Sakari Oramo - Kaija Saariaho: D'Om Le Vrai Sens/Laterna Magica/Leino Songs 6/10 I felt that the Saariaho works were just ripping off Penderecki, but I may take to it more in the future. |

Sibylle Baier - Colour Green 8/10 |

Los secretos - sinfónico 5/10 - a bit wet
|
Miles Davis - Filles De Kilimanjaro 7.9/10

Zakir Hussain - Best of... 8.5/10
Lady Maisery - Mayday 8/10 |
Black Keys- Blue: 8/10
Pretty great stuff. Weight of Love is particularly great. |
